Chapter 1523: Almost seems overkill

Since there was nothing else to ask, I decided to gather everyone and head down into the ruins.

But before we could reach the ruins, there was something that we had to take care of.

The corruption energy that came from the ruins was in the way.

With Joan, this wasn’t really a problem. It only took a few flames breaths from her to take care of all this corruption energy.

At the same time, there was me and Ariel who were also here.

So it really seemed like it was a bit overkill with how pushed our way through this corruption energy.

The group that we chose was small since there was no telling what would happen down there and keeping our group small would reduce any casualties. But in the end, it turned out that this was the wrong call since…

“You didn’t tell me that the entrance was this big.” I complained to the leader of the holy knights and the high priest.

The two of them revealed awkward looks before telling me what happened.

“We couldn’t push that deep with the corruption energy that came out. The only thing that we could do was confirm the general area of the ruins entrance with the airship, we couldn’t actually find any information about it.”

I narrowed my eyes to look at the two of them, but it seemed that they were sincere when they said this.

So I just gave a sigh and waved my hand to show that I understood.

After all, they had already been pushed back by the corruption energy when we arrived, so it was only natural that this was the case. If they had been able to push back the corruption energy, then they wouldn’t have needed to form those lines.

Still, it was a problem that we didn’t know about this large entrance to the ruins.

If we knew about this ahead of time, then we could have brought even more of the wyverns along. Though the wyverns weren’t as strong as Joan, we learned that if they were buffed by the priests, their flames had a small effect on the corruption energy.

It was diluting the holy magic of the priests to a certain extent, but it covered a larger area and dealt with more of the corruption energy.

So it was still considered a useful weapon.

The one good thing about all of this was that we were able to bring Joan with us.

Normally, Joan would have to wait outside of the ruins since she was too big to fit inside. But this time, it seemed that the ruins were big enough that she would be able to fit easily.

That meant that we would be able to bring our divine flamethrower with us.

So before heading in, there was something that we had to do.

“Clear it out.”

Joan and Ariel didn’t waste any time when they heard this order. They immediately started using their power to clear out all of the corruption energy that was around the entrance of the ruins.

However, it was overkill with how much firepower we brought.

At the same time, it was as if the two of them really wanted to show off as they released even more power than usual. So there was a wide area around the entrance of the ruins that was cleared out by the two of them.

I didn’t even need to do anything.

Once this was cleared out, I turned my attention to the ruins themselves.

However, the leader of the holy knights and the high priest couldn’t help looking worried.

“Shouldn’t we clear out the rest of this? It’s dangerous to leave the corruption energy there.”

They were looking at the corruption energy that was outside of the ring that we created.

However, I just said, “Send a message back to the ones that are waiting outside. Have them push in and clear out the corruption energy that is left. The mist will keep it from coming back to the entrance of the ruins for a while.”

The mist that Ariel used was one that was filled with divine energy and it was more than capable of repelling this corruption energy. That was why there was this ring that remained in the first place.

Hearing this, they still seemed a bit worried, but they accepted what I said in the end and had someone send a message back.

I didn’t care about this as I had Joan go to the entrance of the ruins and said, “Do it.”

As soon as I gave this order, Joan released her flame breath into the ruins and started clearing the path for us. The way her flames cut through the corruption energy, it was as if she was a pressure washer cutting through dirt.

There was no resistance at all from the corruption energy, it just was purified by the white flames that washed over it.

However, I looked carefully at the corruption energy that remained after this flame breath from Joan. This showed just how concentrated this corruption energy was based on how much of it was still left.

At the same time, there were marks that showed the direction of the source of the corruption energy.

“It really didn’t go far…” I couldn’t help muttering under my breath in a worried voice.

The fact that it didn’t go far showed that it was quite concentrated and it might be hard to deal with. But it was a good thing that we brought an overpowered group to handle this.

“Ke, ke.”

While I was lost in thought, I was suddenly pulled back by these sounds that came from in front of me.

It was dark, so I waved my hand and created several fireballs that I sent forward.

When the fireballs went forward, I saw what was making those sounds.

It was the same creature as before, but there were far more of them that were charging out.

It seemed that we had stirred the hornet’s nest.
