Chapter 405: Move Into Position And Begin The Attack
Then, the whole fleet moved towards the location and then stopped right outside the radar zone of the Zerg ship. Their entire fleet may not have been seen by the Zerg ship, but the commander of the fleet did not want to test the theory.
So the Xu family fleet remained in position, their ships blending seamlessly with the darkness of space. The Reconnaissance Cruiser, along with the Stealth Frigates and Scout Ships, hovered just outside the Zerg-controlled planet’s detection range.
On the bridge of the Cruiser, the captain stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his expression unreadable as he stared at the main display. The scout ship was on approach, closing the distance to rendezvous with the main fleet.
“Status?” the captain asked.
“Scout Ship Ghost-17 is nearing formation,” the sensor officer reported. “They’re taking the long way around to avoid Zerg surveillance.”
“Good,” the captain murmured. “We can’t afford any unnecessary engagements until we’ve completed the scans.”
A few minutes later, the scout ship docked with one of the frigates, and its lead pilot transferred over to the Cruiser’s bridge.
“Report,” the captain instructed as the pilot stood before him.
The scout pilot pulled up a holographic projection, displaying the data they had gathered.
“This Vanguard Ship is still in the early phases of planetary resource extraction,” the pilot began. “It hasn’t yet burrowed deep enough for it to become an advantage we can take, but it won’t take long.
Their extraction rate is exceptionally high, and if they finish anchoring into the planet’s core, they’ll become much harder to remove.”
The captain nodded, absorbing the information.
“And defenses?”
The pilot’s expression remained the same as he responded. “Minimal for now. There are Zerg Fighters patrolling in loose formations, and the planetary defenses are still growing. However, there are indications that bio-cannons and spore launchers are in development.”
“That means we have a narrow window before the extraction is started on a full scale with the defences all ready,” the captain concluded.
“Exactly,” the pilot confirmed.
The officers in the command room exchanged glances. They all understood the gravity of the situation. If this Zerg Vanguard Ship was left alone, it wouldn’t just harvest this planet—it would continue to move towards the direction where Nexara was, which, with the world upgrade imminent, is not something anyone would want to see.
The captain turned to his tactical officer.
“Prepare the fleet’s full scan of the area. I want every detail on their numbers, infrastructure, and any signs of additional Zerg reinforcements nearby.”
The officer nodded. “Aye, sir. Deploying long-range scanners now.”
Within moments, pulses of invisible energy waves rippled outward from the fleet. The readings started to pour in.
“Sir,” the sensor officer called out. “We have multiple contacts.”
“Zerg reinforcements?” the captain asked.
“No.” The officer shook his head. “Our ships. They were cloaked and are on an intercept course.”
“Put them through,” the captain ordered.
A moment later, a video feed from the new arrivals was displayed. A group of Xu family warships, led by a Reconnaissance Cruiser, approached the fleet.
“Cruiser fleet 5, reporting for duty,” the captain of the newly arrived cruiser announced.
“Cruiser fleet 5, welcome to the party,” the captain replied, his tone carrying the same tone he had from the start.
“What is the situation?”
“There’s only one Zerg Vanguard Ship and a limited number of fighters patrolling,” the captain informed.

“So, if we’re careful, we can eliminate the threat without risking a major engagement.”
The new arrival captain nodded. “Understood.”
“Alright,” the captain continued. “We’ll move into position and begin the attack.”
“Yes, sir.”
With that, the fleets split into two.
One part would provide a diversion while the other part would strike from afar, using their long-range cannons to destroy the Vanguard Ship.
As the plan was set, the fleets got into formation, the ships moving silently through the void.
“All units, report,” the captain commanded.
“Ghost-13 and Stealth-5 are in position and awaiting the signal,” the scout pilot responded.
“Frigate 13 and Scout-3 are ready,” another voice added.
“Reconnaissance Cruiser 5 is ready.”
“Let’s do this,” the captain said.
And then, the battle began.
“Ghost-13, launch a decoy pulse,” the captain ordered.
“Deploying decoy pulse,” the pilot acknowledged.
An artificial electromagnetic wave was launched, creating a ripple of interference.
“Signal detected,” the scanner officer reported.
“Zerg Fighters are mobilizing,” the sensor officer added.
“Frigate 13, move in,” the captain commanded.
“Frigate 13, moving to engage,” the frigate captain replied.
A few moments later, the video feed from the frigate appeared on the viewscreen. It showed the swarm of Zerg Fighters moving toward the decoy pulse.
“Scout-3, provide cover fire,” the captain instructed.
“Scout-3, engaging,” the scout ship pilot responded.
As the frigate began its attack run, a volley of laser fire rained down on the Zerg Fighters, drawing their attention away from the approaching reconnaissance cruisers.
“All units, proceed to the secondary phase,” the captain ordered.
“Roger that,” the captains of the three warships acknowledged.
“Ghost-13, maintain stealth until the target is locked,” the captain reminded.
“Ghost-13, maintaining stealth,” the scout pilot confirmed.
As the three warships entered the range of the Vanguard Ship, their targeting systems zeroed in on the massive structure.
“Target locked,” the scanner officer reported.
“Engaging main cannons,” the captain ordered.
Moments later, the Reconnaissance Cruiser’s cannons fired, their energy beams striking the Vanguard Ship.
“Damage assessment?” the captain asked.
“Moderate damage to the surface,” the scanner officer reported. “It appears to be resisting our weapons.”
“Keep firing,” the captain commanded.
As the three warships kept firing, the Vanguard Ship responded with its own firepower. Its bio-cannons unleashed a torrent of projectiles, but the warships easily evaded the attacks.
“Zerg Fighters are returning,” the sensor officer warned.
“Ghost-13, go to the secondary phase,” the captain ordered.
“Roger that.” The scout pilot acknowledged.
“Reconnaissance Cruiser 5, maintain current course,” the captain instructed.
“Understood.”
Meanwhile, Ghost-13 began its descent towards the planet’s surface. Its stealth field engaged, the scout ship moved undetected past the Zerg Fighters and descended into the atmosphere.
“Scout-3, cover the scout ship,” the captain commanded.
“Scout-3, moving to protect the Ghost-13,” the pilot acknowledged.
The Frigate continued its assault, keeping the Zerg Fighters occupied while the Reconnaissance Cruiser kept hammering away at the Vanguard Ship.
