Chapter 200: Duo Wolves vs Duo War Horses
The Wood War Horse, anticipating a direct assault, trotted sideways, sprouting brambles across the grass with its [Verdant Growth] skill to hamper Little White’s approach.
Seeing the brambles, Little White activated [Moonlight Empowerment] again, pushing a burst of speed into his limbs. He leaped high, soaring over the spiky vines as a shimmering silver aura enveloped him. Twisting in midair, he launched [Lunar Slash] skill downward in a crescent arc.
The Wood War Horse whinnied, summoning a wall of barklike armor to shield itself at the last moment. Splinters flew as Little White’s attack collided with the barrier, and although it didn’t fully break through, fractures lined the protective shell.
On the opposite side of the battlefield, Frostfang snarled as he blasted the Fire War Horse with a concentrated ice beam from his maw, an improvised combination of breath and shards he called [Frost Nova Breath] skill.
The intense cold cracked the scorched ground, forcing the War Horse to shield itself with a swirling cloak of flame. When the clash subsided, both creatures panted from the exertion.
They were only in the opening stages of this fight, yet it felt far more difficult than expected. The synergy exhibited by the Fire and Wood War Horses was comparable to that displayed by the Reaper Wolves or the War Lions. Whenever one creature was put at risk, the other intervened seamlessly.
Little White and Frostfang, on the other hand, tried to adapt on the fly. They were slowly learning each other’s cues, but minor missteps persisted as mistimed attacks, slight positioning errors, and occasional communication lapses.
Even so, the tide might still shift. Frostfang’s calm intellect paired well with Little White’s explosive agility, hinting at potential synergy they had yet to fully uncover.
Little White panted, his flanks heaving under the pressures of battle. The heat of the Fire War Horse’s flames merged with the ozone from the Wood War Horse’s verdant energy, creating an overwhelming fusion of scents and sensations in the afternoon air.
The grassland that was once peaceful under the sun, was now marred by jagged ice formations, charred earth, and clusters of thorny vines. Frostfang stood beside him, calm eyes assessing their opponents as they prepared to escalate their teamwork.
So far, their attempts at a combined approach had only partially succeeded. The War Horses’ precise cooperation had forced them onto the back foot.
Yet neither Little White nor Frostfang was discouraged; rather, their determination was galvanized by the desire to improve and to achieve a true bond in combat.
“Focus on synergy,” Frostfang said quietly, his voice carrying that unwavering calm. “We must exploit their weaknesses together, or we’ll keep stumbling over each other.”
Little White gave a curt nod. “I’ll follow your lead.” He briefly closed his eyes, drawing on the lingering threads of [Moonlight Empowerment], even though the sun was still high in the sky. It wasn’t an ideal condition for lunar energy, but every sliver of power counted.
Their adversaries pawed the ground. The Fire War Horse’s mane flared with an even brighter flame as it snorted and stomped, sending sparks arcing from its hooves. Meanwhile, the Wood War Horse’s eyes glowed a deep forest green. Bark-like growths thickened around its neck and torso, forming protective plating. They showed no intention of letting up.
Suddenly, the War Horses sprang into action once more, proving their synergy remained unbroken. The Wood War Horse galloped straight at Frostfang, unleashing [Thorn Gallop] as a barrage of long, thorny vines radiating from its legs that lashed out at anything in their path.
At the same time, the Fire War Horse raced around behind it, hooves sparking flame as it executed a wide arc, preparing to sweep into Little White’s blind spot.
Frostfang met the Wood War Horse’s approach head-on. He braced himself and activated Glacial Fortitude, forming a layer of ice over his fur that helped absorb the razor-sharp vines.
Although the ice cracked under the relentless whipping, it stopped the thorns from cutting directly into his flesh. Frostfang retaliated with [Frost Nova Fang], a chilling aura expanding from his jaws and freezing the vines in mid-attack.
Then he lunged, aiming to tear through the War Horse’s bark-like armor with his enhanced claws.
The War Horse let out a resonant neigh, vines retracting momentarily as it jerked its forelegs upward to kick. Frostfang rolled aside, escaping with only a minor scratch along his flank. Seizing the chance, he snapped his jaws closed around one of the War Horse’s forelegs, ice flaring at the contact point.
Meanwhile, Little White sensed the Fire War Horse barreling toward him from behind. He whipped around, summoning [Light Barrier] to intercept a burst of flame emitted from the beast’s snorting nostrils.
The barrier held firm, though hairline fractures formed under the strain of the intense heat. The moment the Fire War Horse closed in, it kicked out with blazing hooves, forcing Little White to duck.
“Now, White!” Frostfang roared through their mental link, having glimpsed an opening.
Little White obeyed without question. He dashed to Frostfang’s side, pivoting around the Wood War Horse just as the Fire War Horse tried to regroup with its ally. The synergy between the War Horses had proven lethal earlier, so their best bet was to keep them separated.
The moment the Fire War Horse attempted to link up, Little White interposed himself, unleashing [Silver Eclipse]. His entire form glowed with radiant silver, and each movement trailed an afterimage of luminescent energy.
The War Horse tried to break through, rearing up and sending a wave of flame at Little White, but the Silver Moon Wolf spun aside, leaving a streak of silver light that flitted away. Simultaneously, Frostfang sank his enhanced jaws deeper into the Wood War Horse’s leg, prompting a furious neigh as bark-like armor splintered under the intense cold.
Sparks flew in the air from the Fire War Horse’s onslaught, yet Little White maneuvered adeptly. With each passing second, his synergy with Frostfang improved. Their movements began to flow into each other, forming a loose but developing rhythm that confounded the War Horses’ earlier advantage.
Frostfang suppressed the pained grunt in his throat—his front shoulder had taken a solid blow from the War Horse’s vines, but he refused to let go. If he released the Wood War Horse now, it would flee and rejoin its fiery partner, which was exactly what they had to prevent. Blue frost spread along the horse’s foreleg, forcing it to rely on its other limbs for balance.
Sensing the Fire War Horse’s approach, Frostfang mentally signaled Little White again. Without hesitation, Little White barreled toward the Fire War Horse, slamming into it from the side with [Silver Fang]. The physical impact forced the scorching equine to stagger to one side, its flames flickering from the hit.

Shaking off the blow, the Fire War Horse roared, igniting the ground beneath its hooves with a swirl of scorching flames from [Blaze Circle] skill. The grass ignited in a ring around it, a heated trap designed to keep Little White at bay.
However, the wolf clenched his teeth, steeling himself against the heat, then leapt over the swirling inferno, launching a [Lunar Slash] from midair. The crescent blade of silvery light cut across the Fire War Horse’s flank, leaving a deep wound that bled fiery embers.
The War Horse whinnied angrily, thrashing in pain, but still far from defeated. It lashed out with a hoof ablaze, catching Little White across his side. Little White let out a sharp yelp as he tumbled across the ground, the scorching pain lancing through him. He forced himself up, shaking off the daze.
Meanwhile, Frostfang wrestled the Wood War Horse to the ground, the initial advantage of freezing its leg now partly offset by the War Horse’s tough bark armor. The beast retaliated with [Forest Surge], vines erupting from beneath them, coiling around Frostfang’s torso.
Frostfang hissed in annoyance, tearing at the vines with his claws while the War Horse struggled under his weight. For a moment, it looked like a stalemate.
Despite the pain and exhaustion, Little White and Frostfang continued pressing their attacks, spurred on by newfound resolve.
Gradually, their synergy improved as each time one beast faltered, the other stepped in to relieve the pressure. Their maneuvers started complementing each other, no longer clashing as they had in the beginning.
The War Horses grew visibly frustrated. Their advantage was slipping away. Though they still possessed formidable power, their synergy had been thoroughly disrupted by the relentless, if not yet perfect, teamwork of the wolf duo.
Little White rejoined Frostfang, now side by side again. Frostfang panted, exchanging a glance that brimmed with growing respect for his younger counterpart.
“Better,” he muttered. “Far from perfect, but better.”
Little White nodded, chest heaving. His body ached, but he knew they had come a long way in a short span of time. “Let’s end this.”
And so, with tension rippling through every inch of the battlefield, Little White and Frostfang prepared for the next phase of the fight.
The War Horses, battered but still dangerous, snorted defiantly, preparing to unleash an even more devastating onslaught.
In the golden afternoon sunlight, the stage was set for the final push, where cunning tactics and synergy would decide who claimed victory on that bloodstained grassland.
Little White and Frostfang stood shoulder to shoulder, their chests heaving as the afternoon sun bathed the grassland in warm light. Their opponents, the Fire War Horse and the Wood War Horse, were equally battered—but their eyes remained fierce, brimming with an unyielding spirit.
Despite their mounting injuries, the War Horses were far from beaten. If anything, their desperation had sharpened their resolve.
