Chapter 40: The Choice
“For the last time before I give you ten minutes to decide your future. I only want to remind all of the Royal families that this is non-negotiable, and I don’t want to hear any complaints or attempts to argue with me because I’ve had enough for today.
You have ten minutes to leave this hall. If you’re still here after that, you’ll be killed immediately. Furthermore, you have one day to vacate the city”
With that, Cain pulled a chair from his inventory, sat down, and closed his eyes, signaling that the discussion was over.
The hall erupted in murmurs and hushed conversations. Groups formed as people debated their options—whether to stay or leave.
“Sir, can you help us resolve this?” The king approached the envoy as he wanted to ask for help.
However, the envoy only waved his hand as he said it plainly. “No. This is your internal matter. As I said, the Velmara Kingdom will not interfere in the governance of your kingdom.
And don’t bother trying to persuade me personally. I have no intention of helping either. The old man’s favor isn’t worth this much trouble”
The envoy then ignored the king and looked at Cain while tapping his fingers on the chair as he thought about something else.
Even though Cain seemed like he didn’t care about anything, he actually listened to every chatter as he was curious about the estimated percentage of people staying because if most of the high-ranking officials left, he would also be in trouble.
After listening to the conversation for more than a minute, Cain knew that he was fucked up.
Because only about 10% of the officials were willing to remain, and even they weren’t staying out of trust but for personal reasons.
Cain then thought of an idea that might be able to make them stay.
“Oh, I almost forgot to mention something. I recently acquired a few things that might interest you. Since I have no use for them, I’ll award them to those who contribute the most.”
Cain paused as he wanted them to be curious before continuing.
“These include a Fire Chicken’s beast egg at the Grandlord rank and two at the Lord rank. Additionally, I have a Fire Blood Tree at the Grandlord rank, which will bear eight fruits by tomorrow.
These fruits can help those with fire attributes break through to the Grandlord rank. I’ll reward these treasures to those who prove their loyalty and contribute the most within the first month. And rest assured, there will be more rewards in the future—better treasures as time goes on.”
Cain spoke as he tapped the chair with fingers before taking out the three beast eggs out of his inventory.
“These are the beast eggs, as for the Fire Blood Fruits, tomorrow will be the day when it ripens, so I can’t take it out right now.”
Cain looked at the high-ranking officials with a warm smile as he thought that they would definitely be able to attract them since greed was a human nature and the value of these things were really big for them.
Subsequently, Cain took back the beast eggs into his inventory and closed his eyes again, letting the people inside the hall discuss among themselves.
…
When the 10 minutes were almost up,
Not a single Royal Family could be seen within the hall, as they immediately left after talking to some high-ranking officials.
However, things had changed with the number of people in the high-ranking officials that stayed.
The reason was because Cain mentioned how he wanted to reward those who contributed the most in the first month and will continue to do so.
If Cain hadn’t mentioned it, around 90% of the high-ranking officials would’ve left because in contrast, they would’ve gained nothing and might even have lost their lives since Cain had offended the eldest prince and even insulted his master in front of everyone.
Because of that, everyone thought that Elder Zyran would almost 100% come to Cain sooner or later, and they might even get implicated as they chose to stay here and support him.
However, it’s a different story if huge benefits were being involved, because around two-thirds of the high-ranking officials chose to support him and stay in the kingdom.
Naturally, the huge benefits were not the only reason they chose to stay.
They discussed it and finally came up with the conclusion that he should also be backed by a strong force, at least at the same level as the Flameforge Sect, because Cain didn’t even take Elder Zyran seriously, since he had insulted before.

Because of these, most of them decided to stay instead of leaving with the Royal Family or going anywhere else.
That’s why, coupled with the fact that Cain was generous towards his subordinates, they might as well choose a better leader that cared about the well-being of his subordinates.
Looking at the high-ranking officials that chose to stay, Cain felt relieved that around two-thirds of the high-ranking officials chose to stay and support him.
“Let me remind you once more that I will not tolerate disloyalty or treachery during my reign. If you harbor even a shred of malicious intent, leave now. This is your last chance.” Cain spoke in a serious expression as he glanced at them.
“If you choose to stay and betray me later, don’t blame me for what happens because I will show no mercy.”
Cain smiled viciously and waved his hand, signaling to Dante and Anya to prepare themselves because he wanted to check thoroughly before deciding to trust them completely.
Anya then unleashed her full power and used her [illusion Domain], aiming it at the high-ranking officials.
“Don’t resist so that it will be easier for me.” Anya ordered as this wasn’t a real battle and they shouldn’t resist too in the first place if they really didn’t have any malicious intentions towards Cain.
