Chapter 53: Three choices
As Cain stepped into the hall, a familiar scene greeted him. It reminded him of the royal council chambers back in his own kingdom, where people stood in rows on either side of the hall, while the leader presided from a high throne elevated on a platform accessible by a short flight of stairs.
However, unlike when he was at the royal council before, where there was only one throne, this time Cain saw three thrones where three people sitting on them, each having their own fire lion beside them.
On the left, Cain saw an old man in a white and red robe with long white hair sitting on the throne, looking at him with a curious expression.
On the right, another old man, this one with fiery red hair and dressed in a crimson robe, glared at Cain with barely concealed anger.
Seated on the central throne was a middle-aged man with red hair, wearing a white and red robe.
Unlike the others, his demeanor was calm, though his fingers tapped rhythmically on the armrest, a subtle gesture that seemed to control the atmosphere in the room.
Low murmurs filled the hall as the crowd whispered among themselves, their eyes fixed on Cain as he advanced toward the center of the room.
The moment Cain reached the midway, the room abruptly fell silent when the family head, seated at the center of the throne, halted his tapping finger.
Cain raised an eyebrow and glanced at Fenix, asking about his thoughts. “What do you think?”
Fenix swept his gaze across the crowd with a quick look before answering Cain,
“Meh, that’s all there is to it.” Fenix grimaced with a casual shrug..
“Good,” Cain said with a nod of approval, lifting his gaze toward the thrones.
Naturally, their conversation was easily overheard by those inside the hall, as their heightened senses, a result of being powerful Beast Masters and Awakeners, made it impossible to miss.
Their reactions were varied—some were angry, others surprised or confused, while a few even showed fear.
However, Cain didn’t care about the other’s reactions as he was curious about the reactions from the three people who sat on the thrones.
To his surprise, the family head’s reaction was still calm while the old man on the left also still had the same reaction.
However, the old man on the right was a different story.
His expression twisted with rage, as though he was moments away from lunging at Cain and Fenix.
“This young friend, what is your purpose in coming here so abruptly?” The family head asked without any expression as he started to tap his fingers again.
“Let’s cut to the chase since I don’t have much time, and I’m sure most of us here were busy too. I’m here because I want to ask for compensation for the physical and emotional damage caused by your son.”
Cain replied with a smile before glancing at Fenix, “Show him your wound.”
Fenix raised his hand and opened his palm, showing the ‘scratch’ that was barely visible, and people wouldn’t even notice it if they didn’t look at it carefully.
“How audacious!” The old man on the right bellowed, slamming his fist into the armrest of his throne, shattering it instantly.
“Do you really think you can leave this hall alive after making such an audacious demand?”
“Ohh, are you the one in charge here?” Cain shifted his gaze to the old man calmly.
The old man hesitated, glancing nervously between the family head and the other elder before coughing and replying, “No. Why do you ask?”
“Then shut your mouth, old man. I only talk to the one in charge.” Cain said sharply before shifting his gaze back to the family head.
Everyone was shocked when Cain scolded the old man because the one that he just scolded was the first elder, one of the strongest in the family who had reached the Peak-level King Rank Beast Masters.
The old man was immediately enraged and stood up, but before he did something out of line, the family head raised his left hand, signaling the old man to sit and calm down.
“What compensation do you seek?” the family head asked, his voice calm. “And what if we refuse to grant it?”

“Well, before our discussion becomes any pointlessly longer, I’ll give you three choices.” Cain paused as he raised three fingers in the air.
Cain raised his index finger. “The first choice, I’ll take some of your treasures that I want or deemed interesting in my eyes, and I’ll forget about what happened today.”
“The second choice.” Cain raised his second finger before pointing at Alen and the old man on the right while saying, “I’ll kill your son, and that old man must take one move from my subordinate. Afterward, we settle things and walk away with no further grievances.”
Before Cain could elaborate, the old man on the right stood abruptly. “I’ll take one move! Let’s end it here!”
Cain only glanced at the old man and noticed that the family head didn’t seem to bother with it as if he also wanted to test Fenix’s strength.
Cain was pretty sure that if Fenix’s strength was not strong enough to the point that the family head thought it was impossible to win against him with the entire Flarehart Family’s strength, the family head would immediately order everyone to attack him.
Otherwise, there was no reason why the entire family’s strong people would have gathered in here if it wasn’t for it.
“Remember, you only have one move to crush him completely.” Cain waved his hand unbotheredly as he noticed Fenix’s gaze, who was impatient to crush the old man.
Fenix immediately smiled viciously as he unsheathed one of his swords and took a heavy step forward.
As Fenix took the first step, he immediately released two-thirds of his strength as he enveloped his sword with blazing crimson red flames, intending to use his [Burning Slash] skill with enough energy to kill both the old man and his contracted beast.
Everyone instantly felt the horror when Fenix released his strength, especially the old man whose body was shivering in fear as he regretted that he had just made the stupidest choice in his entire life.
Even though they had a guess that Fenix was a strong awakener who had reached the Conqueror Rank Awakener, they only thought that he would at most reach the Low-level Conqueror Rank.
Because having a Conqueror Rank Awakener as a guardian was already extremely rare enough, and only one of the strongest forces in this world could afford that.
Let alone someone on Fenix’s caliber, who was definitely stronger than those Low-level Conqueror ranks, even by releasing his strength casually.
The family head himself was shocked and immediately used his brain to the fullest in a split second as he didn’t want the worst-case scenario to happen to his family.
At first, he thought that Fenix was a really strong man who had reached around the Peak-level King Rank as he completely overwhelmed butler Hu.
If so, he would’ve attacked them, as Cain and Fenix were daring enough to blackmail them in broad daylight and had ruined their family’s reputation.
Even if Fenix had reached the Low-level Conqueror Rank, the family head was confident enough to have a battle with him using the entire family’s strength since Beast Masters were usually stronger than awakeners as their contracted beast was stronger than most awakeners in the first place.
Naturally, the family head wouldn’t go overboard because he knew that Cain must have a really strong background that he couldn’t offend.
However, he was sure that if he asked for compensation from the force behind Cain, they would definitely give him something since it was reasonable to do so because Cain was the one who started this.
“Please stop!” The family head immediately shouted and stood up with a worried face when he saw Fenix was about to swing down his sword.
Looking at the family head, who was anxiously trying to stop Fenix, Cain raised his hand in response and ordered. “Wait.”
“Do you have any last words for him?” Cain asked with a smile as he teased him for letting this happen in the first place.
“No! We’ll not choose the second option. Tell me the third.”
The family head replied with an awkward smile before sitting down and wiped the sweat on his forehead when he saw Fenix had cancelled his skill.
“A wise choice.” Cain nodded his head and continued to explain the third option.
“The third option is simple. All of you against the two of us in a battle. Simple, isn’t it?” Cain said, casually pointing to the crowd before gesturing toward himself and Fenix.
“Oh, don’t worry too much because I wouldn’t implicate the innocent in your family after killing–ahem, beating all of y…”
Before Cain could finish, the family head raised a hand in surrender.
“I’ll choose the first option.”
Sigh!
“How boring. I was hoping for some action.”
Fenix sighed and complained as he thought that he could have fun like he did previously by smashing someone’s head on the ground.
“Well, if you’re bored, you can smash that old man’s head as long as you don’t kill him. That old man’s face is ugly anyway, so bashing it on the floor will help him improve it.” Cain said as he waved his hand casually.
“What if someone sneak attacks you?” Fenix asked worriedly as he thought about Cain’s safety first before anything else.
“Don’t worry, they can’t kill me.” Cain shrugged his shoulders.
