Stolen Identity: Mute Heiress - Chapter 102
Chapter 102: Upset
Abigail opened her eyes in the middle of the night to go ease herself and she resisted the urge to hiss when she remembered that she had gone to bed upset that Jamal had spent so much time talking to Genevieve.
What had they been talking about anyway? She had been too upset to want to listen to any explanation so the moment she walked inside her room she had placed her phone on airplane mode and gone to sleep with music playing in her ears.
Sitting up on her bed she picked up her phone without turning on the light in the room, and her heart raced with anticipation as she disabled the airplane mode and waited to see Jamal’s message.
The messages came in almost immediately and she stuck her tongue in her cheek as she read them.
> Jamal: Weren’t you waiting for me? Why did you leave like that?
> Jamal: I’m in the kitchen. Bob just introduced me to everyone. Are you coming?
> Jamal: You didn’t go to bed, did you?
> Jamal: This isn’t fair. I was looking forward to seeing you or chatting with you before I go to bed.
> Jamal: Is this what I get for staying faithful to you for twenty years?
Abigail rolled her eyes at that, but a smile tugged her lips.
> Jamal: So, what did I do wrong to deserve being snubbed? Talking to Genevieve?
> Jamal: Do you know what you’re doing right now is witchcraft? For crying out loud I didn’t even do anything wrong! God!
Abigail laughed silently, though she felt a tug in her heart. He didn’t deserve that. She shouldn’t have done that. She shouldn’t have gone to bed without hearing him out or talking to him.
Biting her lower lip she decided to respond to his text.
> Abigail: I’m sorry. I was just really upset and didn’t want to talk.
She sent the text and then set her phone aside on top of the nightstand as she rose to go ease herself. After easing herself she returned to bed and since she wasn’t expecting a response from Jamal at that time of the night she got under the sheets.
No sooner had she laid down and was trying to drift off, before she heard her doorknob turn.
Her heart skipped a beat at the sound, she contemplated whether to sit up to see who it was, or to pretend to be asleep.
Who could be in her room at that time of the night? She knew it couldn’t be Jamal since there was no way he would take such a risk.
Was it Genevieve? Perhaps she wanted to strangle or suffocate her in her sleep so that she could have everything?
Her heart raced as she heard the person walk in quietly. She could tell the person was trying not to make any sound.
She held her breath, trying her best to pretend to be asleep. Soon she perceived the scent of Ryan’s cologne and she froze.
What was he doing in her room? He was the last person she expected to be in her room. What did he want? Why was he here? Did he finally want to kill her now? Did he perhaps figure out that she knew everything now and wanted to get rid of her and claim she died in her sleep?
Abigail did her best to stay still as these thoughts ran through her mind, and she was grateful that no light was on, else she feared he would see her face and know she wasn’t sleeping.
She could feel his gaze on her.
Ryan stood there silent and unmoving as he watched her sleep. She had grown even more beautiful and mature over the years and he found himself drawn to her beauty.
Abigail kept her breaths steady, even though her heart pounded so loudly she feared he might hear it. She willed herself not to flinch as heard him take a slow step closer.
Then another.
The faint scent of alcohol mixed with his cologne.

She felt him near her bedside now, standing over her, breathing hard and watching.
Her body remained still beneath the sheets, but her mind raced.
Why was he here? What did he want?
His weight shifted. She felt the slight dip in the mattress as he sat on the edge of her bed.
A chill ran down her spine.
She hoped it wasn’t what she was thinking, else she was going to just kill him this night and be done with it.
It was one thing for him to have destroyed her life this way, but she’d rather die than have a bastard like him any inch near her body.
Abigail’s hands curled into fists beneath the blanket. She fought the urge to bolt upright, to scream and push him away.
Would he try to touch her? Would he—
Her phone vibrated on the nightstand, the sound cutting through the thick silence.
Immediately, Ryan jerked and his body stiffened.
Abigail thrashed a bit, pretending to stirring in her sleep.
For a second, Ryan didn’t move as he waited for her to relax again and then he shot to his feet.
Abigail remained frozen, listening as he moved quickly toward the door.
A soft click, and then the door shut behind him.
She waited until she heard his footsteps fade down the hall then she sat up so fast she nearly felt dizzy.
Her breath came out in uneven gasps as she grabbed her phone from the nightstand.
The screen lit up.
It was a message from Jamal.
She barely glanced at it before shoving the phone aside and scrambling out of bed.
She rushed to the door and twisted the lock, securing it with the key.
She exhaled deeply, pressing her forehead against the door for a moment, her body trembling.
What just happened? She mused.
Swallowing hard, she returned back to her bed. She needed to distract herself. To breathe.
She picked up her phone with trembling a hands and tapped on the screen, checking the message.
> Jamal: Are you still upset? Want to talk about it now?
A shaky breath left her lips as she quickly typed back with trembling hands.
> Abigail: Ryan was in my room a moment ago. I don’t know what he wanted. He thought I was sleeping and he sat on my bed. He hurried off when your text came in.
