Stolen Identity: Mute Heiress - Chapter 111
Chapter 111: Time Would Tell
Abigail stepped out of the house with Genevieve, unsure where they were going.
As they got to the car, she waited for Genevieve to give her the key so she would drive, but Genevieve ignored her and got into the driver’s seat.
“Are you not getting in?” Genevieve asked when she remained standing by the car, and Abigail reluctantly got into the passenger seat.
As she fastened her seatbelt, Genevieve turned to her, “Did you get enough clothes yesterday? Do you want to shop for more? I have time until my date. We can go shopping. I need some new clothes,” Genevieve offered since she didn’t have any where else in mind to take her.
Abigail shifted in her seat. Genevieve’s ‘kindness’ was making her uncomfortable because she didn’t know what to expect.
Perhaps she wanted to take her shopping with her so she could carry all her shopping bags as usual? Abigail mused.
“You haven’t responded. Do you want to shop or is there something else you’d like to do?” Genevieve asked, and Abigail took out her phone and typed on her text to speech app.
[Anything you want is fine.]
Seeing her cautious response, Genevieve sighed inwardly and started the car. What had she expected? That Abigail would trust her and easily state what she wanted?
The car was silent as she drove. The silence in the car was far from comfortable because Genevieve was just as uncomfortable as Abigail was.
Genevieve glanced at her phone when it started ringing, and when she saw who was calling she ignored the call.
From the corners of her eyes Abigail glanced at the caller id on the screen discreetly, curious to know who was calling and why she wasn’t picking. It was just a number. It was not saved with any name.
Abigail sat stiffly in her seat as Genevieve drove. Her eyes remained on the window and she counted the cars that drove past them, wanting to keep her mind busy.
After a while her thoughts drifted to the discussion in the kitchen that morning and her lips twitched when she remembered Jamal talking about his beautiful wife.
That crazy guy. Why did he have to say all that in front of her? She mused with a grin.
Genevieve, turned to spare her a glance and was surprised to see her grinning. She had never seen Abigail smile that way before.
What was she thinking about? Genevieve mused with interest as she returned her gaze to the road.
Abigail turned to Genevieve in surprise when she saw the HM Corp signboard as Genevieve pulled into the company premises.
Seeing the question on her face, Genevieve answered her, “You’ve never been here. I figured Monday shouldn’t be your first time here. I’ll show you around the company since no one is around, and I’ll show you your office,” she said, and Abigail nodded, deciding that she preferred this to going shopping with Genevieve.
As they walked through the lobby, and approached the flap barrier gate, Genevieve took out her card from her handbag. She nodded at the security people stationed there before scanning the card and walking through with Abigail.
Abigail looked around as Genevieve pointed out each of the offices on the first floor to her.
They took the elevator to the second floor and Genevieve did the same, while Abigail nodded, and typed out questions whenever she had any.
Genevieve answered her questions with surprising politeness that encouraged her to ask more as they continued moving upward.
When they got to the last floor which was the executive floor, Genevieve pointed out Ryan’s office. “That is the Chairman’s office,” she said, before leading Abigail to her office.
“Here is our office,” Genevieve said, and Abigail didn’t miss that she had used ‘our’ instead of ‘my’.
Abigail noticed that there were two offices enclosed in the space, although one was smaller than the other, but there was also a desk and a table outside the larger office.
She typed on her phone, [Is this going to be my desk?]
Genevieve shook her head, “No. That’s going to be for my secretary. You’re my assistant not my secretary. The other office space is yours. You have more important things to do than cleaning my desk and arranging my files.”
Abigail looked at her, wondering why she didn’t have a secretary. Then she decided to ask. [You don’t have a secretary?]
“Not anymore. My secretary doubled as my assistant but he made her resign last week. He said he wanted someone who could sign so that it would be easier for communication,” she said, and Abigail nodded thoughtfully.

After they moved around for a while, Genevieve glanced at her watch, “I’m hungry. Let’s go eat somewhere,” she said, wondering when Stefan would be done.
Abigail followed Genevieve quietly and they drove to an upscale restaurant. As they settled down, Abigail said she wasn’t hungry and settled for a glass of mocktail, while Genevieve ordered a plate of chicken salad.
“You knew he was in your bedroom last night, didn’t you?” Genevieve asked, taking Abigail aback.
Was this a test? Why was Genevieve asking her? Should she pretend not to understand or should she be honest? Abigail’s mind raced with questions as she looked at Genevieve.
Remembering the way Genevieve had helped her out at the dining she decided to trust her this one. She gave her a nod.
“Did he touch you?” Genevieve asked, and Abigail frowned.
Did Genevieve expect him to touch her? Was that the kind of person Ryan was? Had he done something like that to someone else?
Seeing that Genevieve was staring at her and waiting for a response, she shook her head.
Genevieve let out a soft sigh. “You don’t have to worry. He won’t do anything to you. But make sure you keep your door locked at night.”
Curious, Abigail typed on her phone, [How did you know he was in my room?]
Genevieve pursed her lip for a moment as she contemplated how to answer the question. “He made a slip while we were talking. Do you have friends that text you at night?”
Abigail stiffened, but before she could respond the waiter came with their orders.
After the waiter left, Genevieve looked at her, “I’m not sure what you’re up to, but be careful. He might want to find out who you’re texting.”
Thinking about what Genevieve said, Abigail decided she was going to have to come up with an explanation for the message she received at night.
Having said what was on her mind, Genevieve focused on her meal and didn’t say anything else, while Abigail sipped from her mocktail slowly while wondering why Genevieve was being nice to her this way.
She didn’t miss the fact that Genevieve kept referring to her father as “he” and not as Dad. She wondered why.
Was Genevieve trying to be her ally? Was she trying now to be a friend or was she still a foe?
Time would tell.
