Chapter 147: Gentleman Kidnapper
As Mari brushed her teeth, she kept laughing to herself as she thought about the events of the morning and how shocked Jax had seemed to find her in his bed.

“Talk about dreams come true. I made his dream come true,” Mari said with her toothbrush in her mouth and she laughed.

She paused and then looked at her reflection in the mirror. Had he really been dreaming of her? Why? Judging by his body’s reaction, she didn’t need a seer to tell her it had been an erotic dream.

Jax was fantasizing about her, she thought with a grin.

Why did he have to stop just when he was about to touch her most intimate area? She wondered, feeling hot as she remembered his hand on the waistband of her pajamas.

She guessed he had reacted that harshly only because he was worried about what her father would say or how he would react if he found out something like that had happened between them both.

She giggled when she thought about the thong she had left under his pillow.

Had he found it yet? Did Diva see it? She mused with a wicked laugh.

She knew that if Diva saw the thong, nothing he would say would convince Diva that nothing had happened between them.

Poor Diva, Mari thought with a mischievous smile. She wished she could feel bad for Diva, but she couldn’t. She saw herself as an angel of light, sent to save Diva from her foolishness.

She was going to make sure before she left, Diva would be totally over Jax, and would focus her love and attention on someone more deserving. Someone, who would love her in return and not treat her with indifference like Jax.

She made a mental note to ask Jax for a journal and a pen. This was a story she would want Emily to write about. The story of how she was going to get Jax to deflower her. She didn’t care for his heart. She was just going to put this whole experience into good use.

Urging herself to focus, Mari hurriedly rinsed her mouth and then showered. Once she was done, she stepped out of the bathroom and changed into a tank top and shorts.

Although she preferred to wear bigger and more comfortable clothes around the house than those, but beggars couldn’t be choosers.

Just as she opened the door to leave the room, she saw Jax standing there. The slightly startled look on his face told her he had not made up his mind to knock yet.

Her face lit up and her lips curved in a wide smile. “Baby,” she called sweetly, pleasantly surprised that he had come to find her so soon. She had thought he would avoid her all day because of how mortified he had been.

“What was this doing under my pillow?” He asked, holding up the thong.

Mari blinked, feigning surprise, “What’s that?” She asked innocently, peering at it as she adjusted her glasses, “A thong? Whose is it?”

“Don’t mess with me,” Jax warned, not missing the mischievous glint in her eyes.

“Did you ask Diva? Perhaps it’s hers,” Mari said, ignoring his warning.

“Diva knows better than to leave her personal effects in my space…”

“Still, did you ask her?” Mari asked, wanting to confirm if Diva had seen it.

“She found it herself,” Jax said, and frowned when Mari giggled.

So she saw it.

“Then I guess it’s mine. I must have forgotten it,” she said with a shrug as she plucked it out of his hand. “Did you both fight over it?”

“You forgot it? Under my pillow?” Jax asked with narrowed eyes as he leaned against the doorway with his arms folded in front of him.

She smiled. “Yeah. Unless you are admitting you are the one who left it there. Maybe you decided to keep one of the undies you bought me as a souvenir.”

“Why would I do that?”

“I don’t know. Who knows what goes on in the mind of cute looking guys like you?” she said with a smirk as she tossed it on the bed.

“And why would I leave it under my pillow?” Jax asked, confused.

“Maybe so you could imagine me wearing it and jerk off…” she trailed off with a laugh, when he glared at her.

“Do you always speak so carelessly?” He asked, and she shrugged.

“Only around two sets of people. Those I’m comfortable around, and those I don’t give a fuck about,” she said, and he frowned.

“I guess that means you always speak carelessly,” he said, and then raised a brow. “Shouldn’t you put that away properly?”

“Don’t worry, it won’t find its way back to your room,” she said with a wink.

“It had better not,” Jax warned.

With a roll of her eyes Mari walked to the bed, picked up the thong and took it to the drawer in the closet.

“What about your bed, aren’t you going to straighten it?” He asked, not comfortable with the way her bed looked disorganized.

“What’s the point? I’m going to just come lie down on it again,” she said, and without a word Jax stepped into her bedroom and tugged off the sheets.

“Tell me the truth, do you have OCD?” Mari asked as she watched him straighten the sheets.

“Do you have ADHD?” He retorted without looking up.

She paused for a moment, taken aback by his response and then laughed, “I like you.”

“I like you, too,” Jax said without thinking, and paused.

“Ha ha! I knew it!” Mari exclaimed, laughing as she spun around and made a goofy dance.

Jax watched her, amused by her behavior. “I didn’t mean that.”

“Yeah, right,” she said with a laugh.

Jax said nothing for a while as he adjusted the pillows until he was satisfied with the state of the bed.

“What if I had not stopped earlier?” Jax asked, the one question that had been on his mind since he woke up.

“Then we’d have gone all the way. You shouldn’t have stopped. If you’re regretting it already, we can just continue from where we stopped now,” she said with a wink, pointing to the bed.

Jax watched her with curious interest. “You would have sex with a total stranger? Someone you do not know? Someone who kidnapped you? Are you that careless?”

“I suppose I am. People have casual sex with strangers all the time now. It’s not that much of a big deal. Some people have even met the love of their lives through such careless one night stands.”

“And some people have been known to lose their lives through such careless encounters too. You could meet a serial killer, contract a sexually transmissible infection, get pregnant for someone you do not know and ruin your life,” Jax countered.

“True. But if you think about it, you’re not a stranger anymore. We live under the same roof, we’ve had dinner together, and now have slept on the same bed,” Mari said with a shrug.

“I am holding you under my roof against your will. We didn’t have dinner together. We ate separately. We slept on the same bed only because you snuck in while I was asleep,” Jax reminded her.

“So, what?” She asked, and Jax frowned.

“So, I am still a stranger. A very dangerous stranger,” Jax said, and Mari smirked.

“Doesn’t change anything.”

Jax raised a brow, “So, by your standard we are qualified to have sex?” Jax asked, trying to understand her reasoning.

“More than qualified,” Mari said, winking at him.

Weary now, Jax shook his head as he straightened. “Well, apart from returning that. I wanted to apologize for touching you that way. Although that wouldn’t have happened had you not slept on my bed. Still, I’m sorry,” he said, and she smiled at him.

“Aww. My kidnapper is such a gentleman. A gentleman kidnapper,” she teased, and he chuckled.

“You laughed!” Mari exclaimed.

Jax cleared his throat. “I didn’t. Let’s go have breakfast. I’m hungry.”

“Yes! Breakfast! I love you, baby,” she said with a grin as she reached for his arm, but he stepped back and eyed her with disapproval.

“Keep your hands to yourself. And watch your words,” he warned as he turned and walked out of the room, leaving her to follow him.

Mari grinned and hurried to meet up. When she did, she quickly linked her arms with his before he could pull away, and as he tried to pull free she held on tighter.

“By the way, your fuck buddy said she’s moving in,” Mari said conversationally as they headed for the dining.

Jax winced, “Can you stop calling her that?”

“Why? Is she your girlfriend?” Mari asked sweetly.

“No. Her name is…”

“What is she to you?” Mari asked, cutting him off.

“My friend,” he said, and she scoffed.

“Really? You don’t treat her like one. I never want to be your friend if that’s the way you treat your friends,” she said, and Jax glared at her.

“I never asked you to be my friend,” he said, then she grinned up at him.

“Yeah. I bet you want me to be something better than that,” she said, leaning into him playfully. “Your girlfriend, huh?”

Before Jax could respond, Diva appeared in front of them and her eyes narrowed with displeasure when she saw the way Mari was holding on to Jax.

“What’s going on?” Diva asked, eyeing Mari’s hand.

“My baby and I are going to have breakfast,” Mari said sweetly, “want to join us?”

“Your baby?” Diva asked, looking from Mari to Jax.

“Don’t take her seriously,” Jax told Diva as he tried to pull away from Mari, but she held on tighter.

“Yeah. My sweet baby. I heard you saw the stuff under the pillow. Sorry. It was meant for his eyes only,” Mari said with a grin.

Jax raised a brow, “Didn’t you say you didn’t know how it got there?”

“Did I? I can’t remember. I’m hungry,” Mari said with a pout as she let go of Jax’s hand and headed for the kitchen, leaving Jax to face Diva alone.
