Stolen Identity: Mute Heiress - Chapter 85
Chapter 85: A Hank And Jonas
Tom was silent for a moment as he glanced at Harry, his best friend and right hand man, who had been seated with him in his office.
Harry, who had been waiting to tease his nephew, Jamal, about calling Tom more times than he called him, paused when he saw the look on Tom’s face.
“What’s wrong?” Harry asked, recognizing the look on Tom’s face to mean trouble.
“Repeat what you just said, Jamal,” Tom said, placing the phone on speaker for Harry to hear it for himself.
“You heard me. Genevieve is not Dawn. That bastard has been making a fool out of us this whole time,” Jamal repeated, and Harry looked up from the phone to Tom’s face.
“What are you talking about Jamal? How did you know this? Where are you?” Harry asked, taken aback by the information.
Jamal sighed. This was going to take a while, and now that he thought about it, he wasn’t sure he had the privacy he needed to talk about this freely here.
He wished he had had the good sense to record the conversation with Abigail. That would have made it much easier to explain.
“Uncle Harry, I didn’t know you were there. I think I need to step away from here to talk. Give me a moment,” Jamal said before hanging up the call and stepping out of his room.
Tom and Harry exchanged a look as they waited for Jamal to call back. They had taught and mentored him all these years, and so they knew him well enough to know he wouldn’t raise a false alarm.
“If this is true then things are about to become very crazy,” Harry muttered, swearing under his breath.
Tom said nothing. His first thought was his wife, Lucy. She was going to be furious. God save Ryan if it was true.
“It makes sense, doesn’t it? The reason he hasn’t let us get anywhere close to her all these years,” Harry said after a moment.
“Harry if this is true there will be hell to pay,” Tom said, and just then his office door opened and his heart skipped a beat when his wife, Lucy, walked in with a bright smile carrying a lunch pack.
Tom exchanged a look with Harry, which Lucy caught just before she shut the door behind her and she knew without a doubt that something was amiss.
Both men would have preferred to hear from Jamal and figure out when and how to present it to their wives and the others before Lucy hears it.
“To what do I owe this unexpected pleasure?” Tom asked with a cheerful smile as he rose to take the pack from her.
“I’m going to be busy because of the fashion fair prep, so I figured we have our date here in your office over lunch since I don’t know when I would get home tonight,” she said as she let him take it.
She turned to Harry, “Hello, HaHa,” she greeted with a wide smile.
Harry chuckled, “I’m a little old for that name, don’t you think?”
“You’re old to the kids, not to me. You’re still just HaHa to me,” she said with a laugh as she let Tom pull her onto his thighs.
“So, what was that look on both your faces when I just walked in?” She asked as she settled down on Tom’s thighs.
“What look?” Tom asked innocently and she wagged a finger in front of him.
“You know better than to do that with me, Ace,” she said, and Tom looked at Harry for help but he raised both hands up.
“Keep me out of it. I don’t interfere in married people’s business,” he said, making them laugh.
Just then the phone began to ring again and Tom exchanged a look with Harry once again. Lucy sighed, “What’s with the call? Jamal is calling,” she said when she saw his name on the screen, and without waiting for Tom to receive the call, she answered it.
“My sweetest Jam. Did you call because you sensed my presence?” she greeted pleasantly, placing the call on speaker.
Jamal groaned, “How is it you’re there now? First Tom, then uncle Harry, now you. Who else will be talking to me next?” he complained knowing that she had greeted him so pleasantly because Tom and Harry hadn’t said anything to her, and he knew Tom would expect him not to say anything with her there at the moment.
He had walked quite a distance away from the house to talk to Tom and Harry and he needed to get it all out now.
“Are you alright?” She asked when she heard the note of stress in his voice.

“I love you, Lucy. But please I need to talk to Tom now. I promise to call you later,” Jamal said and Lucy’s brows pulled together.
“Uhm, Jewel, can I speak with him?” Tom asked, and Lucy frowned as she looked from Tom and Harry before giving his phone back to him.
“Jamal give me a moment,” Tom said, while Lucy turned to Harry.
“Is something wrong with Jamal?” She asked with a concerned frown.
Harry looked at Tom, and raised a brow silently asking him what he was going to do about the phone call and Lucy since they couldn’t possibly ask her to leave the office.
Seeing that look again, she sighed. “Okay. I’m going to assume this is some confidential guys talk and you don’t want me to listen in. I will go down to say hello to Jade in her office. When you’re done call me,” she said, and both Tom and Harry looked visibly relieved and they nodded.
Lucy looked at Tom again with a concerned frown when she saw how relieved he looked and then kissed his forehead, “Make sure Jamal is fine. He sounds stressed out,” she said before walking out of the office.
“Jamal, you can talk to us,” Tom said the moment Lucy shut the door behind her. “What do you mean Genevieve isn’t Dawn?”
“Remember the girl I met five years ago? Abigail?” Jamal asked, and Tom and Harry exchanged a look, wondering why he was talking about her again after all these years.
“The mute girl, yes,” Tom said with a nod.
“Abigail is Dawn,” Jamal said, and Tom frowned.
“What are you talking about?” Harry asked, totally confused.
“This is crazy. I know it all sounds totally crazy and if someone else was saying this to me I’d say it’s bullshit, but just hear me out,” Jamal said, knowing he was blabbing but he didn’t know where or how to start the explanation.
He didn’t know whether to start by telling them what Ryan had done or how he had met Abigail and realized she was Dawn. Or whether to tell them Abigail had gotten pregnant like Tom insinuated and had a son for him. Tom would prep ably kill him for impregnating his young kin.
“Where are you, Jamal?” Harry asked, since Jamal had not answered that question earlier.
“I’m in Westend. I’m precisely in Genevieve’s house. I’m working as her live-in driver, and Abigail lives here. Genevieve was the mean stepsister Abigail told me about five years ago. Abigail… no Dawn. Abigail is Dawn. She can speak now. She lost her memory and her voice due to the trauma and all these years she didn’t even know who she was,” Jamal explained as best as he could.
“This is unbelievable,” Harry said with a shake of his head, while Tom let out a deep breath.
“Jamal, what’s going on. How did you end up there as Genevieve’s live-in driver? How did you have this conversation with Abig… Dawn? I’m guessing they don’t know who you are,” Tom said, trying to process the information swirling in his head.
“Okay. It’s a long story but I’ll try to explain the best way I can,” he said and then went on to tell them how he had run into her at the airport and how they had gotten along in the plane and then he saw her back at the house and found out her name was Abigail.
“Hold on, you mean you didn’t recognize her?” Tom asked in confusion and Jamal realized he didn’t mention the mask.
“I couldn’t have recognized her. She was wearing a mask because Ryan asked her to get surgery…”
“He did what?” Tom asked, his blood beginning to simmer with anger.
Tom and Harry tried to stay calm as Jamal told them all about his discussion with Abigail. Jamal only left out the part about Josh as he told them all that she had told him and how he had Stefan acting as him now.
“You mean all these while he made us believe his daughter was Dawn, while he made her live as his illegitimate daughter? The daughter of a maid? A Hank?” Tom asked, his voice dangerously low but ringing with disbelief.
Jamal sighed, “That’s not all. You remember the news we saw the other time? About Ryan having a son?”
“Yeah. What about it?” Harry asked, and Jamal hesitated for a moment.
“You were right, Tom. She got pregnant. The kid is my son. He stole the kid from her and claimed the kid as his in order to be able to maintain his control over her,” Jamal said, not minding that Tom would be mad at him.
“Ryan Harris that bastard!” Harry swore under his breath.
This wasn’t just about Dawn being a Hank anymore. Although Harry would have fought against Ryan just as hard because though he might not be a Hank by blood, he was through friendship and marriage. But this was also about the little boy being a Jonas.
That kid was both a Hank and Jonas.
Ryan had messed with not just the Hanks. He had messed with the Jonas family as hell, and there would be no mercy for him.
“We will be on our way to Westend…”
“No. Wait,” Jamal hurried to say.
“Dawn doesn’t want things done this way. She wants…”
“We don’t care what Dawn wants. She won’t dictate to us what to do to Ryan Harris,” Tom snapped, angry that Ryan had gotten away with the nonsense for such a long time.
His father had felt guilty for a long time, and even Lucy had been devastated by the turn of events which had made her postpartum depression even worse.
Jamal sighed, “I know how you feel, Tom. Trust me, I do. But I don’t think any of us is more upset than Dawn herself. He murdered her family, took everything from her and made her serve his daughter. We can’t deprive her the satisfaction of getting back at Ryan herself. She says she would like to meet you and Lucy. She isn’t allowed to go off on her own so we have to come up with a good plan,” Jamal said, and Tom drew in a deep breath to calm himself.
“We will have to call a family meeting and decide on what to do. In as much as we will allow her do whatever she plans to do, we will also deal with Ryan in our own way,” Tom said, and Harry nodded in agreement.
“I suppose this means you will be there for some time,” Harry said thoughtfully.
“Yes. But Stefan will return to handle things at HAJ in my absence,” Jamal assured Harry.
“You should be careful, Jamal. And do not worry. We will come up with a plan on how to see Abigail. Both Dawn and the kid will be fine,” Tom promised.
“I’m not worried about them being fine. I know they will be fine because I’ll make sure of it. I’m worried about what I’m going to do to Ryan. All these years…” Jamal trailed off, too angry to think about it.
“We will handle it together. Ryan Harris won’t be the first bastard we’ve dealt with. We will teach him why people do not mess with us,” Harry told Jamal while holding Tom’s gaze and Tom nodded in agreement.
