Chapter 429: I Can’t Believe He Actually Did It
Mark was in awe as he read through all the benefits of the Constitution. Mark was even more thankful now that he added all those points to mana before. If the system itself was telling him that he needed more mana points, then Mark was sure that he was at least on the right track. Mark was actually tempted to take the thousand extra stat points that he was saving up and put them into Mana as well, but he decided against it. Mark would go out and try to make more points later to add to his mana.

Once Mark was done putting points into the skills he wanted to improve, he saw that he still had about one thousand six hundred skill points left. Mark hadn’t added any points to the Taunting skill because he didn’t think that it was necessary, but now that he had a bit extra, he decided that he would add some points to it as an afterthought.

The amount of skill he had left wouldn’t help any of his other skills improve to the next level, so he would add some to Taunting and then leave the rest for when he got more points.
[Does the user wish to send points to the selected skill? Yes/No]
Mark chose yes, and the system brought up the notification showing that the skill had been improved.

Once Mark was done with that, he finally closed down all the tabs on his system and allowed himself to relax with a sigh. Mark’s mind started to wander, and as he slowly organized the events of the past few hours in his mind, he grew more tense.
Everything was becoming too complicated right now. Mark was already annoyed by the fact that Salazar was somewhere Mark couldn’t touch him, and Mark didn’t know if this was another one of Salazar’s plans or if Salazar was actually going to die in that prison. But the news showing images of him and Luna and all the propaganda on the internet was just giving him a headache. It was too much.
But what was really adding to the stress Mark was feeling was what he heard from Jeanne when he finally managed to get through to her after they came back to his house earlier. It turned out that the mission to uncover what the NSA and Salazar were hiding was much more intense than the news was making it out to be. Mark sighed as he put his forearm over his eyes and leaned back on the couch to rest his head. The mission was an absolute disaster.
Not only was Tylor in critical condition, but Fiona was also declared missing in action, and no one knew if she was even dead or alive. The mission had been going perfectly for a while, but once Gunter showed up, it was as if everything just went to hell, and shit hit the fan faster than anyone could have predicted.
As of now, Gunter was also declared a criminal along with Salazar, but unlike Salazar, Gunter was not in custody. Mark felt a surge of anger rising through his body once he thought about Gunter, and he had to calm it down with another sigh. It would be pointless to get angry now. Save the anger for when you actually find that bastard.
Mark still hasn’t been able to get through to Pat since he came back from the island, and no matter how much he called, Pat refused to answer. Normally, Mark would have already gone over there to smack the shit out of Pat by now, but Mark just didn’t have the time for that yet—not with everything that was going on. And besides, Mark could understand Pat’s actions a little.
Mark still remembered how it felt when he lost his first ally on the battlefield. When a superhuman he was fighting alongside was killed by an anima, it felt like Mark failed the mission even after he killed the anima. Mark had been able to get used to this feeling, and he no longer allowed it to affect him much since he knows that every person who goes into a mission to fight an anima is aware the risks and dangers they are putting themselves in.
But Pat was different. The only person Pat has ever had to fight alongside was Mark, and Mark has always found a way out of dangerous situations, so Pat never really had to worry about him that much. Losing Fiona in this mission must’ve really fucked Pat up.
Mark decided that he would go later to look for Pat and see how he was doing.
‘And I’m going to have to talk to Arit about the whole Luna business She hasn’t said anything yet, but there’s no way she hasn’t seen the news already.’
Mark released another irritated sigh as he used his free hand to feel around the couch blindly for his phone. He had to call Pat and make sure that bastard was okay first. But before he could get the phone, he heard a sound coming from his system as a tab opened in front of him.
[Comment from GoG: Mark! Take the image and hide it! I won’t be able to talk for a while, so make sure you don’t open the link to me at all, or Nyx is gonna kill you!]
[Sozin has sent an image.]
[Sozin has severed the link connecting the user to the realm of the gods.]
[Nyx, the goddess of darkness, is attempting to open the link.]
[Sozin has blocked the attempt.]
[Nyx, the goddess of darkness, is attempting to open the link.]
[Sozin has blocked the attempt.]
[Nyx, the goddess of darkness, is attempting to open the link.]
[The link has been terminated by Sozin. In order to communicate with your patron god, the user must wait until a new link is created.]
[Nyx, the goddess of darkness, is attempting to kill Sozin.]
Mark blinked as he read all this, and it didn’t take long before a chuckle escaped his lips as he remembered that stupid conversation he had with Sozin in the middle of the fight against the Eldritch. Mark couldn’t believe that bastard actually did it!
