Chapter 430: The Problem With Female Gods
Mark had no idea what sort of games they played up there in the realm of gods, but they should really try their best not to let Sozin win this many times. Didn’t they know that playing a game against a literal god of games was a bad idea? And when that same god was just a fucking pervert, things would always end badly.
Mark opened the image with a thought, and he felt his mouth go dry as he saw the beautiful Nyx wearing a black rope bikini that was tied at each side of her waist as well as over her shoulder. It was a two-piece and it barely covered anything, showing Mark the goddess in her full glory. There was a small blush on her cheeks, and she was looking up at the camera in shock when the picture was taken. It was obvious that she had no idea Sozin was taking a picture.
This was only the second goddess that Mark was seeing in a bikini, but Mark was already contemplating changing his patron god for the second time. Having a goddess like this would be ten times better than having that bastard Sozin as a patron god!
[The system advises the user to not consider such a possibility. Goddesses are historically known to be very possessive of their major male contractors and cruel towards them as well as any woman that approaches them. The system believes having a goddess as a patron god will lead to the death of every woman the user loves. The most famous instance of this is the male contractor that was chosen by Aphrodite during the age of gods centuries ago. He fell in love with a human during his journey to attain power and, due to her jealousy, Aphrodite led him into an ambush that killed him before making his lover run mad and drowning both her and their unborn child in the Styx.]
Mark immediately paused in shock once he read this. Holy shit! What the fuck was that? Mark did not expect the system to suddenly drop a bomb like that on him, and he decided that maybe it was a good thing he wasn’t chosen by a female deity. They were batshit crazy!
‘For some reason, I’m not really that surprised that the female gods are crueler than the males. The more you know.’
“Mark…”
Mark’s eyes slowly opened, and he turned his head to the side to see Arit standing at the door leading to the inner rooms. She was wearing a pair of shorts and one of his t-shirts, and she had a nervous frown on her face as she stared at the ground for a while. Mark hummed in response, and Arit looked around the room for a few seconds before her eyes finally came up to meet his own, and she spoke quietly.
“We need to talk.”
Mark closed his eyes tightly and sighed before he nodded slowly while sitting up.
“Yeah, yeah… we do. Come on.”
Mark beckoned Arit over, and Arit walked up to the couch and sat down beside Mark. She put her knees together with her hands between her legs and glared at her ankles, and Mark leaned forward and put his hands on his thighs. He was the first to talk.
“It’s about the news, isn’t it?”
Arit didn’t need to say anything, but she couldn’t stay silent. Arit had been feeling uneasy ever since she saw that news. She knew that there was nothing seriously implicating about the image shown on the news, but the position that Mark and Luna were in was just too compromising.
‘That bitch was hugging him! She was hugging our KING! We should find her and kill her! Erase her from existence once and for all! We always knew she was going to be trouble! Now we have a reason to get rid of her!’
The queen was obviously not happy, but Arit just tuned out the raving as she spoke calmly.
“Who is Luna really? I know… I know the news was just blowing things out of proportion between the both of you, but the position that you were in with her in that picture, it felt like… I didn’t like it.”
Arit ended her statement with a small frown on her face, and Mark could tell that she was really bothered by what she saw. Mark understood why and he didn’t hold it against her at all. Even though Mark was not the one who initiated the contact, seeing your lover in such a compromising position with someone else will always make you angry.
Mark stretched a leg out and leaned back on his seat with his hands folded. Mark knew that he had never told Arit about what really happened during the fight against the Armageddon. In fact, Mark had never spoken about it to anyone. It was something that Mark didn’t like bringing up at all because of how taxing it was. If you fight for more than two days, exchanging blows with a monster for hours nonstop, you will definitely find it hard to explain everything that happened in that time to anyone. After some time, all of the events there just blurred into one moment in Mark’s mind, and anytime he thought about it, he would just refer to it as ‘that fight.’
But now that this happened, Mark felt like he owed Arit this explanation. No matter how difficult it was to remember all of it, Mark was not going to allow his discomfort to stop him. Even though it might not explain everything that happened to Arit perfectly, it was going to give her some context on why he and Luna were in such a position.
Mark suddenly started talking, and Arit turned her head slightly to look at him. He was staring straight ahead with a hard look on his face, as if he was trying to remember details that were buried deep in his head, and Arit just stayed quiet and listened to everything that he was saying.
“I met Luna once before, a long time ago. It was during the fight against the Armageddon. Honestly, I don’t even know how she remembered me because we didn’t stay together for long, but… yeah, she was there.”
Mark started from the beginning and explained to Arit how he fought against the Armageddon, then he explained how he broke into a few houses in the lower district of city D and ended up having to rest in one of the houses because of how serious his injuries had gotten. That was where he met Luna for the first time. She was a thin, sickly-looking girl with white hair and dead eyes, but even back then she had been beautiful. For some reason, she was dressed very well, and if not for the look in her eyes that told everyone around her that she was tired of everything in the world, Mark would have thought she was just another normal girl who just had some illness that made her unnaturally thin.
They stayed together for about thirty minutes. She helped Mark take care of some of the more serious injuries on his body that were bleeding out, and she gave him her lap and allowed him to use it as a pillow to rest during that time. She kept asking Mark about who he was and why he was fighting against the Armageddon alone, and Mark answered all her questions truthfully.
