Chapter 441: The Final Trial Begins
The third and final hearing for the trial of Salazar took place in the International Criminal Court. For the first time in the history of America, every single person in the country was tuned in to watch the hearing as they wanted to know what was going to happen. The front door of the courthouse was packed with journalists, and there was barely any space for the vans and cars moving towards the courthouse to pass through as they got close to the building. It was so rowdy and noisy, you would think there was some sort of celebrity making an appearance.
Luna came down gracefully from her guild’s limousine as she finally managed to get to the front of the court. She was wearing a pair of faded blue jeans and black Nike Air Force Ones. Over that, she had on a white crop top that showed off her stomach with a black biker jacket. She had a minimal amount of makeup under her eyes that allowed her to cover up the dark circles and redness from the sleepless nights she spent crying, so no one was any wiser about her internal dilemma.
There were numerous journalists trying to get close to her and ask her questions, and members of her guild helped her to create a pathway so that she could walk up the stairs leading to the courthouse. Luna started walking up the stairs, but she couldn’t stop herself from listening to some of the questions that were being yelled at her loudly.
“Madam Luna! Madam Luna! Is it true that you are seeking to enter a relationship with GHOST? Please give me a moment! Just a few questions!”
“Madam Luna, have you thought about the implications of entering a relationship with a high school student? Does it affect you in any way?”
“Madam Luna, please give a statement about the compromising position you were in with GHOST! Is this a declaration of your intended relationship with him? Should we expect a SOVEREIGN couple in the near future?”
“Madam Luna, what do you think of Salazar’s actions? People are claiming that the government knew about Salazar’s crimes long before they apprehended him!”
“Do you think the government was trying to use this as an avenue to create their first biological weapon?”
“Madam Luna! Madam Luna! Just a moment of your time!”
“Madam Luna!”
“Madam Luna, over here!”
The journalists were relentless in their questioning. Luna already knew that she would be questioned a lot about what happened between her and Mark, so she didn’t allow any of the more senseless questions to even phase her. She just went up the stairs and started to enter the building, but she stopped as she heard the sound of more cars pulling into the courthouse. The journalists who had been trying to get the interview with Luna suddenly stopped and changed targets as they moved to the new cars that had appeared. The cars came in a convoy. Three bulletproof Vanitas Model M (Military Model Cars) were in front of the convoy, and they were followed by an armored car that looked durable enough to withstand a nuclear bomb. This car was then followed by another two Vanitas Model M cars, and anyone who saw the convoy would immediately know who was being transported.
“Salazar! Salazar, what do you have to say for yourself? What prompted you to carry out the crime that you did?”
“Salazar! Is there a word you can give to the public? Everyone is watching!”
“Are there more labs like the one under the NSA building?”
“Did you ever feel guilt as you cut up and experimented on humans?”
“You fucking monster! Rot in hell!”
“What sentence do you think you will receive today? Are you going to repent for your sins if you’re given the death sentence?”
The journalists were trying their best to eat Salazar alive as they tried to shove as many cameras and microphones into his face as possible. There were more than twenty Superhuman Alliance Agents creating a pathway through the journalists for Salazar to walk and yet they still found it hard to move forward due to how unrelenting the journalists were. Salazar was wearing the orange garb that all prisoners wore. He had some dirt on his cheek, and his fingers were broken and bloody. There was a superhuman-suppressing handcuff on his wrists that held him in place and allowed the high-level S-rank beside him to pull him forward.
Luna narrowed her eyes once she saw Salazar. Even in the midst of the carnage and madness that was happening. Even though he was being led to the hearing where he would most likely be sentenced to death, for some reason, Salazar was still smiling. Luna’s eyes followed Salazar as he walked up the stairs, and when Salazar noticed her eyes on him, he looked up, and his smile widened once he caught Luna’s eyes.
Salazar kept his eyes locked on her own as he walked up the stairs, and just before he passed her, he gave her a calm nod. Luna felt her insides turn in disgust as she looked away from him. That smile rubbed her the wrong way, and for some reason, Luna knew that Salazar was up to something. What could he be planning?
“I didn’t think you would come.”
A voice from in front of her drew Luna’s attention, and she turned to see Alec Ben standing there. When the hell did he appear? How did he get here without me even hearing him? Luna knew for sure that Alec wasn’t standing there a half-second ago, so how the hell did he get there?
Just how fast is this man?
Alec gave Luna a curious look, and Luna just shook her head and said that she initially didn’t plan to come. But since it was the last hearing, she figured she might as well make an appearance. Alec Ben hummed and nodded as he looked at where Salazar just walked through.
“I never thought we would have to deal with something like this. A human trying to make anima using other humans. It’s a twisted story no matter how you look at it.”
Luna nodded back at Alec. She knew that Alec was one of the most justice-oriented out of all the SOVEREIGN, so he must have been affected by this more than any of the others.
“What of Sasha, she is not here yet?”
Luna asked this and Alec shook his head.
“She’s not coming. I haven’t heard from her in more than two weeks. The higher-ups are saying she might have run away with Gunter.”

Luna gave Alec a look.
“That’s preposterous. Sasha has been helping the Superhuman Alliance for a long time now, why would she suddenly turn around and betray them?”
“Everything that is happening now was once seen as preposterous. Who would have thought that the leader of the NSA was a madman who uses humans for experiments? With something like this, we can’t cancel out any possibility. We’re more than prepared to take Sasha out if we find out that she is on Gunter’s side.”
