Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 468
Chapter 468: Misguided Trust
The only way to get a visa into Africa was if you had family there or if your company sent you there for work. Even students couldn’t get visas unless they already had a family member working there. Most African countries were very strict.
Arit would be able to move to Africa easily since her father worked there, so there would be no issue with a visa. But Arit obviously didn’t want to go anywhere. She liked staying here with Mark. Even with the high rate of anima appearances and all the danger present in the country, she was happy with him.
Arthur saw the look of distress appearing on his daughter’s face, and he told her that he couldn’t talk about it here.
“It’s important that we talk about this in private. I saw a café on the other side of the street when I was coming to the hotel. We can talk there.”
“Arthur. Are you sure there’s nothing going on?”
Mark suddenly spoke up while reaching out to put a hand on Arthur’s shoulder, and Arthur swallowed as he felt some pressure pressing down on him. Arthur couldn’t even meet Mark’s eyes.
“Mark, this is something between family. I need to talk to Arit. Please respect that.”
Mark frowned.
“As far as I’m concerned, Arit is a member of my family. I know you’re her father, but I care about her more than you can ever imagine, and going out there is dangerous right now. If you have something to say that will affect all of us, then I think I have a right to know about it as well.”
“You have no right to know anything!”
Arthur suddenly shouted at Mark, and Mark raised a brow as Arthur turned to him in anger! Arthur raised a finger as he glared at the taller boy!
“I gave her to you so you could look after her! I trusted you to look after my baby, and you turned her into… into…”
Arthur felt something like bile rising from inside him, and he had to grit his teeth tight before he spilled anything more. He turned away from Mark and took in a deep breath to calm himself!
“Arit! Let’s go! We have to talk!”
Arit was shocked when her father suddenly shouted at Mark, and she was holding both hands close to her chest while staring at Arthur. Arthur turned around and reached for her hand roughly, and Mark suddenly grabbed him before he could drag Arit along.
“Don’t you dare drag her.”
“Let go of me right now, Mark!”
Arthur tried to drag his hand away, but he couldn’t even make it budge! Mark glared at him, and Arthur felt his resolve shaking from the pressure he could feel from Mark! Mark wasn’t even releasing any of his mana, but Arthur felt like a sheep standing beside a lion when Mark stared at him like this. There was no way Arthur could keep his cool.
“If you want to talk to Arit, then you can do it in one of the rooms here. This hotel is the only place in the city where Arit can be safe. I can’t have you walking outside just for a conversation.”
Mark didn’t want to risk Arit going out of the hotel and running into Gunter or Sasha. The hotel had a lot of security superhumans, and there were guards at almost every doorway to ensure no dangerous person made it into the building, so Mark knew this hotel was the only place where Arit could be safe.
If Arit was attacked in this hotel, the guards and other superhumans could keep her safe for at least a few seconds before Mark arrived. But out there in the city, anything could happen.
“I already told you I want to talk to her alone. Do you think I don’t know you can hear everything happening in this house? Mark, I gave my daughter to you for protection. Don’t make me regret that choice.”
The news about superhumans having enhanced senses was no longer hidden in the world. Everyone knew to be careful when talking around a superhuman because you could say something they didn’t like, and they would definitely hear you. With how strong Mark was, Arthur knew that Mark would be able to hear everything that was happening in this house easily.
Mark frowned but didn’t dispute what Arthur said. Mark knew Arthur was right, but that was no reason for him to allow them to go. It would still be dangerous for them to leave the hotel since Gunter was still on the loose. Finally, after the pressure was already getting too much, Arit spoke up anxiously!
“Wait! Wait! Mark, please. Please let him go. There’s a café in the hotel. The manager told me about one that opened on the first floor a few days ago. We’ll just talk there, and I’ll come back. Please.”
Arit suddenly had to speak up, and she put her hand on Mark’s chest and told him to stop. Arthur watched as Mark turned from him to Arit, and Mark’s eyes softened once he saw the anxious look on her face. Arthur knew at that moment that Arit and Mark cared more for each other than he would ever understand. Mark frowned and then released a calming breath before he slowly let go of Arthur’s hand. Arthur was Arit’s father and he was the entire reason why Mark and Arit were able to get this close. Mark had a lot of respect for the man that would eventually be his father-in-law, and that allowed him to trust Arthur. Arit smiled and gave him a quick kiss before taking off her apron and folding it.
“Let’s go, Dad. I’ll be back soon, Mark. I promise. We’ll be downstairs, and I have my phone. If I run into any trouble, I’ll call immediately.”
Mark gave Arthur another hard stare before he just nodded his head. Arit thanked him as she led her father out of the house. As the door clicked shut, a small part of Mark felt like he was making a huge mistake.

Pat sped past the cars on the road of City C as he made his way to the Red Lotus Hotel. After Pat found out about the anima clusters that were all around the city, he immediately started to drive to City C to meet Mark last night. But Pat had been deep inside City D in one of his safe houses when he found out about the clusters, so he had to drive all night—more than five hours on the road—before he could make it to City C. And now that he was in City C, he was speeding towards the Red Lotus like a madman.
WeeWoo! WeeWoo! WeeWoo!
A police car suddenly appeared behind him and urged him to stop for questioning, but Patrick ignored the warning as he raced through the streets. He had already broken a lot of traffic laws by moving the way he was, so he knew that breaking a few more would not be an issue.
Patrick was ready to speed up even more, but he was stunned when he saw more than thirty police vehicles appear behind him! Patrick almost had a small panic attack when he thought they were all there for him, but he calmed down again when they all passed beside him before shooting off into the distance.

They were moving so fast, with horns blaring loudly, that all the cars on the road immediately made way for them to pass. Patrick wondered what was going on. Was there some sort of terrorist organization that they wanted to raid? That was the only reason why Pat thought the city would send so many police cars in such a rush.
