Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 475
Chapter 475: The Scale Tips
Buzz~
Alec felt the commlink in his ear buzz, and he clicked it and answered while glancing at a large anima that was crawling its way out from a hole in the ground. I have to kill that before it surfaces.
“Turner. Situation report.”
On the other side of the call, Turner was standing on top of a building while watching the carnage going on below. Turner grimaced as a man was crushed by a large anima before another superhuman appeared from behind and tore the anima in half.
[Things aren’t looking good, sir. Tina is busy fighting over at the outskirts of City C, and I can’t tell how long she can hold out without reinforcements. I’m going to regroup with her when I’m done here, but the underground path leading to the basement was blocked.]
After Turner told Alec about Arit killing Francis and Esmeralda, Turner was tasked with finding and rescuing Maria’s mother from the people who kidnapped her. According to what they were able to see on some of the cameras around Maria’s house when her mother was kidnapped, the man drove down to the lower districts of City A, and he hasn’t come out from there ever since. Turner was now in the lower districts of City A, but he couldn’t go any further since a small group of Calamity class anima had appeared in front of the building. He would have to get rid of them first before he could continue.
Alec nodded and told Turner to finish off quickly.
“We don’t have time to waste. Find the woman and move on to helping the other superhumans. If you can’t find a way through, then just make a new path.”
[Yes, sir. I just wanted to ask about Madam Luna. You said you would contact her for help with subjugating the anima that appeared. Have you been able to get through to her?]
Alec went silent for a moment before he spoke.
“The Moonlight Guild is currently aiding in various cities, but Luna requested we leave the Arit issue to her personally. I didn’t have much of a choice since we were swamped, but I already warned her about the consequences of failure. Regardless of how strong Arit is, I am sure Luna has enough power to subdue her and kill her if the situation calls for it. Just finish off your job and get moving.”
Alec had no idea how Luna even learned about the Arit situation, but Alec was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. From the conversation that they had, Alec knew that Luna was more than prepared to do what was necessary, so he allowed her to handle it.
Turner frowned as he heard that Luna was going after Arit, and a part of him knew immediately that it was Tina who had told Luna about this. But Turner did not mention this to Alec. Instead, he simply accepted Alec’s orders and clicked off the comms.
…
[Lower Districts of City A. A Few Kilometers Away From Turner.]
Luna walked through the dilapidated streets of City B with a blank look on her face. She glanced to her left as she heard some rocks crumbling, and she raised her hand and crafted an ice spike that shot out at an anima that peeked its head out of the building!
SQUELCH!
The ice spike struck through the anima’s head and killed it instantly, and Luna just continued moving. All around her, there was nothing but silence.
[This is a prerecorded announcement to all citizens of City A. All citizens are advised to leave the city and secure safety with their loved ones in other cities. All bunkers have been filled, and the superhumans cannot ensure the safety of any citizen left outside the bunkers. I repeat. All citizens are advised to leave the city and seek safety with their loved ones in other cities… This is a prerecorded-]
The buildings and roads were covered in gleaming ice, and there was smoke rising from large craters with the dead bodies of anima inside them. Luna had arrived here only an hour earlier, and she managed to clean up the entire region alone. City A did not have a lot of superhumans since most guilds moved their main base out of the city after GHOST arrived. It would be difficult for them to get many missions since they knew that GHOST was capable of handling most anima on his own.
This meant that many of the civilians in this region did not have anyone to protect them. Since GHOST was not available and there was a lack of high-ranking superhumans, the anima were mainly free to roam about without hindrance. But Luna’s presence alone was enough to destroy this imbalance in power and tip the scale back in favor of the humans. All the humans living in the region had already evacuated, and now Luna was the only one left here as she trekked towards a house in the distance.
Luna’s face was blank and unreadable, and anyone who saw her would never be able to tell what was on her mind. Luna got a call from Tina a few hours ago, telling her about the entire situation as well as what the armed forces were about to do. Luna was angry at Tina for not telling her about it earlier—it was only after the officers had gone to apprehend Mark that Tina was reaching out to her. But Tina told Luna that she didn’t have a choice. Turner was watching her closely, so Tina couldn’t call Luna earlier.
Luna had already been on her way to City A once she heard that the raid had begun, but by the time she got there, Mark had already been spirited away by some random person, and the tremors had begun to wreak havoc on the country.
Luna stopped at an intersection and turned her head to the side slowly. A low growl came from the remains of a crumbled building as an anima hid itself between the stones. The anima was a large, rat-based disaster class that would have normally been trying to kill as many people as possible. But right now, the anima was frightened by the mere sight of Luna. It was glaring at her while trying to make itself as small as possible, hoping that she would simply leave and ignore it.
Luna put her hand up and grabbed hold of the moisture in the air around the anima before heating it up to unbearable levels. A loud squeak resounded from the building as the rat began to boil in its makeshift shield. There were more rats hiding in the building with the first one, and they all began to cry out as they started to boil as well. Luna continued walking while ignoring the screeching and squeals that were gradually getting louder. It didn’t even take ten seconds before the squeals died down as all the anima died horribly.
Finally, after walking for a few more minutes, Luna stopped at the edge of a large crater in the middle of the road. The crater was more than two hundred meters on every side. There were hundreds of dead anima littering the area. Crushed buildings and dead human remains also littered the landscape, adding to the morbidness of the scene. And in the middle of all this stood the QUEEN in all her glory.
