Chapter 477: Luna and Arit – The Epilogue
Luna’s words made Arit see red, and she screamed in anger as she shot down toward Luna like a mad woman! Luna prepared an attack to launch at Arit, but Arit’s momentum was so great that she was able to break through the attack just before it landed! Arit slammed her fist into Luna’s cheek and sent them both crashing to the ground! She grabbed Luna by the collar again and drew her head back before bringing it down like a hammer!
BANG!
The sound of bone striking bone echoed through the clearing, and Luna gritted her teeth as a wave of pain shot through her entire head.
“How dare you say I’m possessive! So what if I am!? I have every right to be possessive! Who the fuck do you think you are!”
Luna grabbed one of Arit’s wings forcefully and pulled the wing back, and Arit screamed in pain as she was forced to let go before Luan could tear the wing off! Luna tossed Arit aside and grabbed hold of a large volume of water from the atmosphere before using it to wrap Arit in a cocoon! Arit felt the cocoon solidifying to ice and she quickly spread her wings apart, using them to scatter a small part of the cocoon. She flapped the wings and just managed to break free from the water before it froze into a ball! But Luna suddenly appeared in the air, her hand pulled back, and landed a wicked blow across Arit’s face!
Boom!
Arit shot down to the ground and slammed into the crater, and Luna used the momentum of her fall to land a double kick on Arit’s body!
BOOM!
A large dust cloud rose from the impact before silence spread across the area again. Even though Luna was not a physical-type superhuman, that did not mean she was weak, and as the dust cleared, it showed Arit grimacing in pain in the center of the crater with Luna looming over her with a strained look on her face. Arit could have kept going, but she had drained herself fighting against the Calamities that were here before, so right now, she was already on her last legs.
Luna fell to her knees beside Arit so that she was talking directly to her and spoke up calmly while cleaning some tears that wanted to fall from the corner of her eyes.
“This is all your fault. Once you came into the picture, it’s like everything I had was taken away from me. You took the King before I could find him again, you took Mark before I could fall in love with him. And now, you’ve allowed them to take him to a place we can’t go. And here you are, making it all about you. Just how selfish are you?”
Arit felt Luna’s words strike her like something physical, and she finally couldn’t stop her tears as she put a hand over her face. Arit’s horns and wings retracted back into her body, and her skin returned to its normal complexion as the queen left her. Arit had been in denial with herself all this time, trying to tell herself that it wasn’t her fault that Mark was gone. But once Luna said it so plainly, it was impossible for Arit to deny it anymore. If Arit hadn’t been so stupid, then Mark would still be here.
“I’m sorry… Sniff~ I just… I just want him back. I don’t want to lose Mark… Sniff~ Please tell me he’ll come back.”
Luna sighed as she watched Arit cry and finally sat down beside her, feeling all her anger evaporate from her body. Luna reached a hand out and rubbed Arit’s hair gently, trying to soothe her. Luna had been very angry too when she first heard that Mark vanished, and in a way, she blamed Arit. But she knew that being angry at Arit wouldn’t change anything.
Luna was six years older than Arit, and she knew she had to be the mature one here. They were both hurting, but they couldn’t both break down.
“This isn’t the first time Mark has been in a situation like this, and Mark always comes back. I’m sure he’ll be able to handle anything he finds on that other side. He’ll be back. I know it.”
“But—”
“I said he’ll be back. You haven’t spent the amount of time I have thinking that Mark was dead before, so you wouldn’t understand how much of a miracle Mark is. He has risen from apparent death more times than I can count. Just believe in him.”
Luna sounded so sure of herself, it was as if she were stating a fact of life. She believed with all her heart that Mark would return and Arit felt a small part of her believing in Luna’s words.
Arit finally wiped her tears. She looked around at all the damage their fight had done and frowned. Now that she was no longer emotionally unstable, Arit realized they had really destroyed a lot of the lower district.
Their fight had already broken more buildings than the anima had.
“You know, I wasn’t really going to kill people just because Mark wasn’t around.”
“Yes, you were. I could see it in your eyes. And didn’t you kill all these people already?”
Luna gave Arit a heated stare, and Arit’s frown deepened even more as she shifted to sit beside Luna.
“Okay, maybe I was going to kill some people, but I didn’t kill these ones. They were already dead when I came here. I just killed the anima that were destroying the building.”
Luna hummed, and they both descended into silence for a few more seconds. Arit reached up to touch her forehead and sighed when her hand came back wet with blood. Luna had really hit her hard. Arit started to clean the worst of the blood as she spoke again.
“Are you going to arrest me?”
Luna nodded in confirmation, and Arit just looked down sadly at that. Arit knew that Luna wouldn’t just overlook her actions. But Luna wasn’t finished.
“I’ll take you into my guild and hold you as an anima. Since my guild was the one that captured you, we have autonomous authority over what to do with you. We can choose to hand you over to the Superhumans Alliance or hold you for research. And until Mark comes back, I think I can keep the government off your back. It’ll be hard, but there isn’t much they can do against a guild as large as mine.”
Arit’s shock was obvious, and Luna just gave her one of those beautiful smiles she always reserved for those close to her. Did Arit really think Luna came here to arrest her and hand her over to the government? Mark would obviously be angry at Luna if she overlooked Arit when she was in danger like this. That was why Luna called and took this mission in the first place. She just wanted to make sure she was the one to take Arit captive and not some government official. Luna had decided that she would be the one to protect Arit until Mark came back.
