Chapter 504: Dealing With The Devil
“You dare to insult me, mortal? You, the pet project that was gifted your powers by no merit of your own. A child who has not even lived as long as my youngest pet. Give me a reason why I should not just kill you here and now.”
Mark did not say anything in response to Loki’s question. Instead, he just gave Loki the most empty stare he had ever given anybody in his entire life. Loki asking that question was enough to make Mark know that Loki could not kill him. If Loki could kill him, then Loki wouldn’t have needed to ask for a reason to keep him alive. He would have just killed him.
Mark’s confidence grew as he threw Kevin’s body to the ground in front of Loki like trash. Kevin was currently finding it hard to breathe due to the sheer pressure that Loki’s presence was releasing. Unlike Mark, who was already used to being around the gods since he had met more than three gods by now, Kevin had not met any gods and his body could not handle the amount of pressure that gods release with their presence.
Kevin was unfortunate because the first time he was meeting a god was in their full form. When Mark met with Ares and Thanatos, he did not meet them in their full form; they took on human appearances to meet Mark, and that made their presence and aura reduce exponentially. But since Loki was in one of his stronger forms, Kevin’s first experience with a god was a lot more than he could handle.
After some time of trying to get his breath, Kevin was finally able to calm his racing heart, and he got himself under control again as he sat up and stared at his patron god with guilty eyes that showed just how disappointed he was in himself for appearing in front of Loki like this.
Loki stared down at Kevin for only a moment before he ignored him and turned back to Mark with a snake-like hiss escaping from his lips. Mark spoke up with narrowed eyes.
“I’ve heard a lot of stories about you and how cunning you were. I’ve heard about you stabbing Thor, killing Odin, swallowing Midgard, and even trying to destroy all of Asgard with your plans. But if this is the best one of your children can do, then maybe I overestimated your cunning. To think that your favorite child believed he could defeat me using such a second-hand method. Is that why your plans against Thor have always failed as well, Loki? Because you always use second-hand methods?”
HISSSSS~
RUMBLE~!
The sound of thunder echoed through the region as Loki hissed in anger at Mark! Loki’s body rose higher into the air and Mark had to crane his neck far back before he could see Loki’s face. Mark knew that what he said would piss Loki off, but that was his plan all along. Mark needed Loki to get angry. He needed him to realize that Salazar was nothing but a disappointment of a servant so that Mark could strike a deal with him.
Loki came back down after a few seconds and coiled his large body around Mark one more time so that he could face Mark from the side. Mark half-turned so that he was still looking at Loki, and Loki came close enough that Mark could see his own reflection in Loki’s large slitted eyes. Mark was shocked when he saw that the slits in Loki’s eyes weren’t slits at all. They were serpents that slithered and coiled around themselves in the middle of Loki’s eyeball. When the serpents noticed Mark looking at them, they hissed at him angrily. Mark tried his best not to look away from the uncomfortable sight.
“Are you trying to antagonize me, mortal? To think that a creature born from dust would be capable of such stupidity. I did not believe that the children of Gaia could become even more idiotic than they once were, but you have proven me wrong. Time is no reason for a species to gain intelligence. They could just become stupider as time passes. You remind me much of my brother, Thor. All strength and no brains. I will enjoy it when your death arrives. Perhaps I will make a bargain with Thanatos so I can keep your soul. I know of a few ways to make you suffer for eternity.”
Loki said all this in a low, conspiratorial tone, like he was talking about something that he wanted only Mark to hear, and Mark tried his best not to react to the threats. Mark knew that there were many ways for Loki to torture him if he wanted. In the stories that Mark heard about Loki, Loki was one of the most spiteful gods, and he would always find a way to torment his enemies to death if he could. It would have been wiser for Mark not to make Loki his enemy, but it was something inevitable.
When Mark spoke up, it was with a confidence that surprised even Loki.
“But you can’t kill me right now, can you? For some reason, you’re hesitant to even touch me. I don’t know if it’s because of the deal the gods made, or if it’s because of who my patron god is, and really, I don’t care. But know this. I am going to kill your champion. I know he is an immortal who can be reborn no matter how many times he is killed, but that’s not going to stop me from tearing him apart. And I am not going to stop there. I’ll find him again, and again, and again, and each and every time, I’ll kill him. I’ll get stronger and stronger, and the one purpose that will be repeated in my life through every one of his rebirths is killing him. I’ll show the gods just how useless your favorite champion is. You’ll become the very bottom of the barrel, a laughingstock for as long as I fucking live. That is going to be my life’s goal.”
Kevin grew paler and paler the longer Mark spoke. Kevin already knew Mark hated him, but the amount of spite that Kevin could hear in Mark’s voice right now was enough to show him that this went beyond anything Kevin thought it was. Mark despised Kevin down to his very soul! Mark’s tone and the serious look in his eyes told Kevin that Mark was not playing around!
ROAR!!
Loki suddenly charged at Mark, and Mark felt his eyes widen as he took a step back in shock! Mark’s right hand came up to protect his head as he activated the [Aegis of Ares] and the other one tightened into a fist! Mark thought that Loki was really going to kill him right there, but just before Loki could bite Mark, Loki stopped! Mark was looking right into Loki’s large eyes with a guarded look on his face, and Mark’s heart was beating like a fucking drum in his chest. The amount of adrenaline pumping through Mark at that moment would have been enough to kill a raging bull! Mark grit his teeth so hard that he could hear them creak as Loki backed away slowly!
