Chapter 505: A Deal With The Devil
Loki was pissed! No, Loki was more than pissed!
Loki was fucking seething!
Loki knew that Mark was only taunting him now, and Loki hated the fact that Mark would dare do something like that! Loki couldn’t just kill Mark because of the pact that the gods made at the start of the superhuman era. All the gods decided as one that they were not going to interfere in the battle for survival between the anima and the humans. Loki was able to find a loophole through this pact by simply bringing other humans under his command and making them cause the destruction that he wanted them to cause. But Loki never thought that a mere human like Mark would dare to stand in front of him and talk like this! Loki’s aura alone in this form is normally enough to kill most mortals without even needing to try, but for some reason, Mark could withstand it.
If not for the fact that Mark was one of the most important superhumans in the world, then Loki would have damned the consequences and just killed him! Loki would have erased this bastard from existence!
In a space outside of Loki’s dimension, Sozin looked on curiously with a playful look in his eyes. Loki could literally feel Sozin’s stare on his back, and Loki knew that if he went too far, Sozin would be forced to act. Even Loki did not believe he had the strength to stand up to the god of games. Because, unlike Loki, who was extremely cunning but was also not one of the physically strongest gods, Sozin was both cunning and powerful enough to stand up to some of the strongest gods in existence. That was not something Loki wanted to face off against as an enemy.
Mark took in a breath to calm his beating heart and finally deactivated the shield before he spoke up and drew Loki’s attention back to himself.
“But I have a way for the both of us to get out of this satisfied. Take your blessing away from Salazar and let me end him. That way, I won’t have to go through the stress of finding him every generation, and you won’t have to suffer the humiliation of having your champion die over and over again. Get rid of Salazar, and we both win.”
Loki hissed in curiosity before he chuckled low in his throat. Loki flashed forward and stopped just a hair’s breadth away from Mark’s face. Mark couldn’t even blink in reaction to the movement because of how fast it was! Loki spoke up in a playful tone.
“And what gives you the impression that you can make deals with me, mortal? Do you truly believe this is the only avenue I have on the mortal plane? Do you think Salazar is the only human under my employ? I could find a million ways to kill you before sunrise tomorrow. You humans always forget how vulnerable you are in moments like these. You care about people, do you not? The defect, Patrick Grey. The fledgling water goddess, Rose Snow, and the infant queen, Arit Clayborn. And that’s not all. Your godfather, your teachers, your classmates, your friends. Do you think I care at all for their lives? Do you think you’re capable of protecting them all if you enter a battle against my forces? I will reduce them to dust and bury you in their corpses.”
Mark glared at the large serpent angrily, and Loki grinned as he finally saw the first shreds of anger appear in Mark’s gaze. Loki laughed, deep in his throat, as he pulled away from Mark and slid towards Kevin. Mark watched as Kevin swallowed nervously when Loki stopped in front of him. Loki just stared at him for a long time, and Kevin felt his entire body telling him to run away from there as quickly as possible. But Salazar just couldn’t move at all, even if he wanted to! When Loki finished scrutinizing Kevin, he turned back to Mark and said:
“Nothing to say?”
Mark glared hatefully at Loki, and when he spoke, he made sure Loki knew that he wasn’t joking.
“I believe in the people I have around me. They can protect themselves. And those that cannot, I will protect. I don’t care if it’s one person or a million people, I’ll kill anyone you send after my family, Loki. Over and over again. But know this: if even one of them is killed, if even one person I love ends up dead because of your schemes, I will gather power until I am capable of erasing you from existence, and I will hunt you to the end of eternity. I will make sure that messing with the people I love will be the biggest mistake of your eternal life. You can mark my words.”
Loki’s shock was obvious on his face. Mark was staring right up at him, and to Loki, it was like a little dog telling an elephant that it would kill him. It was absolutely absurd! But for some reason, Loki couldn’t completely disregard the threat. There was a part of Loki deep inside that saw this threat for what it really was. It was a declaration from the future.
Loki couldn’t directly kill Mark without repercussions from the gods, and since Mark was one of the strongest superhumans, Loki knew that none of his children on Earth would be able to kill Mark either. So Loki knew that Mark would have time to get even stronger in the future. If Loki killed any of Mark’s loved ones, Mark would make it his goal in life to hunt Loki down. And from how fast Mark had been growing recently, Loki could guess how long it would take before Mark would become just as strong, or even stronger, than him. It wouldn’t take too long. In the eyes of gods who live for thousands and millions of years, it would practically be the same as just a few days.
Loki was not one of the more powerful gods in terms of strength. He was cunning, but he wasn’t a powerhouse like Thor or even Ares. If Loki fought against those gods, he would die, so Loki knew that if Mark grew to become as strong as those gods, things would become tricky.
As one of the more intellectual gods, Loki was able to think through all the possibilities in less than a second. Killing Mark’s loved ones would make him an enemy to Mark, and killing Mark would make him an enemy to Sozin. It was a situation that Loki couldn’t see himself winning, no matter how he looked at it.
But still, Loki did not relent as he leaned back down to Mark.
“It will serve you well not to threaten a god, mortal. I can kill ten generations of your loved ones in the time it will take you to grow up to my level. You have been warned. But let’s look past that for now. I must admit that your proposal is a sound one. The man I have taken as my champion has turned out to be nothing but a disappointment.”
