Chapter 506: I Have A Counter Offer
“I must admit that your proposal is a sound one. The man I have taken as my champion has turned out to be nothing but a disappointment.”
“Loki—”
Kevin quickly spoke up once he heard Loki changing his mind, but Loki turned to Kevin with a heated glare! There wasn’t any pressure behind the stare, it was just a threatening look, but it seemed to shoot straight through Kevin’s body like a bullet, and Kevin felt his entire body shiver in fear as he went silent again. He immediately lowered his eyes from Loki’s gaze and looked away as Loki turned back to Mark to continue talking.
“As I was saying, he is nothing but a disappointment. To not be able to kill one person, even after such elaborate scheming, speaks volumes of his uselessness. But that does not mean he has failed. The screams of fear and destruction I can hear from your world due to his actions have left me very satisfied. It is almost enough for me to give him a second chance.”
Kevin seemed to perk up at that statement, and he turned his eyes toward where Loki and Mark were talking. He was getting a second chance?
Mark narrowed his eyes at Loki, and Loki just grinned as his snake-like tongue came out and licked a line across Mark’s face. Once more, Mark had to struggle not to react, and Loki frowned when he didn’t see any emotion on Mark’s face.
Loki continued talking.
“So, I will make a deal with you. The country that you so cherish, and the people in it—if you are capable of foiling the plans made by Salazar and destroying the leader of the anima currently running rampant within the country to save them, then I will grant you your wish. It is not possible to take back the blessings I have given to my champion, but I can take his soul from him and lock it in limbo. Would that satisfy you?”
“What!? You can’t do this!” Kevin turned to Loki in shock with a shout, and Loki turned around to hiss at him.
“Is that ssso?”
Loki’s pressure suddenly burst out from his body and slammed into Kevin. Kevin felt an invisible force push him off the ground and into the distance!
DOON!
Kevin was thrown back like a ragdoll, and he slammed into a rock formation far away from where Loki and Mark were talking. He groaned as he tried to get his breathing back. The stump that was once his right arm started to bleed again, and he grabbed it quickly to try and slow the bleeding down.
Rumble!
Bzzzt!
Thunder echoed through the air before a flash of lightning lit up the sky in blue. And once Kevin looked up, he saw Loki staring down at him. Kevin scrambled back in fear at the fierce look on Loki’s face, and Loki leaned down so that Kevin was staring him right in the eye. Kevin felt like he was going mad when he saw the snakes in Loki’s eyes. It was something that his mind couldn’t comprehend, and deep within him, he knew that he did not deserve to gaze upon a creature like this. It was only the sheer, unfathomable fear freezing him in place that prevented Kevin from looking away.
“Do not test my patience, boy! I have granted you power beyond mortal understanding, and you have squandered it. You have brought me shame, and because of your actions, the other gods laugh at me! ME! Thor laughs at ME!! What I do with you from this point forward is for me to decide! You have no power over your life and death anymore! Do you understand!?”
Kevin nodded so fast he started seeing double. Loki hissed at him and allowed his long snake-like tongue to roam over Kevin’s face. Kevin’s entire body shivered as his face squeezed into a look of absolute terror, and Loki enjoyed the fear coursing off Kevin for a moment before he turned back and reappeared in front of Mark before Mark could even blink.
“Now, where were we? Oh yes, I was granting you a proposition. So what do you say, do we have a deal?”
Mark glared at Loki.
“You haven’t told me what will happen if I fail.”
Loki’s face took on a surprised look for a second as if he was shocked by the revelation before he suddenly gained a look of realization. If he had a body, Mark thouhgt that Loki would be snapping his fingers while muttering, “oh” or something.
Loki came down to Mark and coiled around him before bringing his face closer and talking directly in Mark’s ear.
“Should you fail to save your country, and should you not succeed in completely destroying the most dangerous anima in the horde, then your soul is mine to do with as I wish. You shall never see the Styx, and you shall never be welcomed to the realm of Thanatos. I shall be the one to possess you for all eternity. That does not sound like a bad deal, does it? Or are you no longer confident in your so-called ‘strength’?”
Fucking bastard.
Mark could feel his resolve shake as he heard what Loki just said. Mark couldn’t rush into making a deal like this, especially not with the sort of things Mark had heard about Loki. Giving someone like Loki your soul for eternity was going to be the worst decision you could make, and since Mark still had no idea what was going on out there in the real world, Mark was not certain what sort of battle he was going to be fighting.
‘But Loki spoke about Luna and Arit just earlier, didn’t he? He threatened to kill them if I did anything stupid. That means they are not yet dead. If there’s a chance that whatever is out there cannot kill Luna and Arit, then it won’t be able to harm me either.’
Loki also said that Pat was fine, but Mark knew that Pat was the sort of person to find a good way to get out of trouble before it came. So Pat was hiding in some bunker somewhere no one would find him. Mark couldn’t use that as a good measure to determine what he would be meeting out there.
‘System, is the link to Sozin reestablished?’
[Yes, the user’s link to the celestial plane has been reestablished by Sozin.]

Mark nodded internally before he spoke up to Sozin.
‘Sozin, I know I am risking everything you’ve done for me, but I want to make this deal with Loki.’
On the other side, Sozin was silent for some time, and Mark thought for a moment that he would not answer, but eventually, he responded.
[Comment from GoG: I refuse.]
What?
Mark was shocked by Sozin’s response, and he quickly spoke up again.
‘Do you not think I’ll be able to win?’
[Comment from GoG: Winning or losing is not a matter of concern. In terms of power, I believe you are not inferior to whatever Salazar might’ve created to destroy your country. But you should remember who you are making a deal with. There’s always something more when Loki is involved. He is not the god of mischief for nothing. I cannot be certain that you won’t hesitate and get killed when you encounter what Loki has planned for you.]
