Mark now had more than fifteen thousand stat and skill points to distribute, and Mark knew that he had to use them as quickly as possible before leaving the ALTERWORLD. Mark had no idea what he would meet out there, and he wanted to be prepared for anything. But first, Mark looked around him and hummed before he scratched his chin curiously.
“How the fuck do I get out of here?”
…
[Outside the ALTERWORLD – The Upper Sector of City S]
America was a wasteland.
This thought crossed through the mind of George, the deputy director of the city, as he watched what was happening on the screen. As a non-superhuman, as well as a member of the Superhuman Association board, George was given high-priority protection and put in a bunker with only the most powerful people in the country. To his left, the speaker of the House of Representatives was watching the large screen in front of them with a lost, haunted look in his eyes, and to his right, the president of the United States, Marilyn, seemed to be completely lost in thought as she just stared blankly at the screen.
There were more than a hundred people in the large room, and more than half of them were high-priority non-superhumans who were put there for their own protection. The other half were either members of the military or part of the personal protection team from the Superhuman Alliance that worked to make sure all executives were safe. Along with this team, there were also two faces that most people seemed skeptical about. Alpha Seven and Alpha Ten stood on either side of the president protectively, like they were her bodyguards. The president didn’t seem to mind their presence, so no one had asked her about who they were, but everyone there was obviously curious.
The two Alphas did not wear any recognizable military uniform, and there were no badges on their clothes that would show their affiliation. They only wore a small flag of the Federation of America on their right shoulder, and that was it.
Obviously, George knew who they were. They were two of the Artificially Augmented Super Soldiers that Henry Ford created. George eyed the Alphas critically, just like everyone else, and he tried not to draw attention to himself by acting like he didn’t already know who they were. But his act was made easier by the fact that he was shocked they were there at all. Henry never told him that he would be sending Alphas to protect the president, and seeing them here was just as much of a shock to George as it was to anyone else.
George turned back to the screen in front of him to look at the various sections showing videos from different parts of America. One of the sections showed the fight happening in the city’s lower district between Arit, Luna, and Sasha. The people in the room didn’t know what to think about that fight at first. They all could see clearly that Arit was an Anima, but seeing her helping Luna to fight off the other Anima as well as Sasha was enough to confuse them.
The officials in the room thought about sending their forces to apprehend Arit once they were done with the fight, but George was the one who told them not to do anything. George could tell just from a glance that Arit and Luna were trying their best to stop Sasha, so George decided that this was not the time! Instead of stopping Arit and Luna, George sent out some superhumans to help Arit and Luna with the Anima that would be attracted to the fight that was going on. That way, Arit and Luna would be able to focus entirely on taking Sasha down without any distractions! Unlike the other officials, George was not a proud man, and he knew when to swallow his pride and admit that they needed help from someone that they considered an enemy not too long ago. Arit might be a criminal, but since she was doing the right thing at this moment, George was not going to allow them to stop her.
Another screen showed the outer corners of the continent. The area where Patrick had told General Raj to abandon before. Honestly, no one could look at that part of the screen for long without feeling guilt deep inside their bones! They knew that the cities out there were the most vulnerable of all the cities in the country, and they also knew exactly what it was that the government had done just for the sake of the more populated cities. It was a simple case of sacrificing the few in favor of the many, but it did not stop them from feeling the guilt.
The cities in that region barely had any humans left in them. There were large Anima roaming through the streets and destroying the few remaining infrastructures that weren’t already on fire. However, since the government ordered all the armed forces and superhumans to migrate towards City S with anybody they could save, there was no one left in those border cities to do anything about it.
George closed his eyes when he felt guilt settling in, and he turned instead to another screen on his right. George knew that what they were doing to those towns was wrong, but there was nothing he could do about it since it was the only way to ensure they saved as many people as possible.
The screen on the right was focused on the academic city, City D. This was probably the next most protected city after City S. It was just through pure luck that City D turned out to be located right in the middle of two much larger cities that were hotspots for Anima, so the monsters barely found their way into the city since they were too busy trying to cause damage in the two larger cities.

And for those that did find their way in, there was an S-rank named Frank Paul who had made it his sole mission to protect this city. Frank was a university student living in City D, and he went to school in UA just like Patrick. His superhero name was Vector, and he had a blessing from Hermes that allowed him to increase, decrease, and erase inertia in an object to a certain degree. This gave him not only an inhuman amount of speed but also the ability to use almost anything as a weapon! If someone like him throws a javelin and increases the inertia of the javelin so that it never stops moving, the javelin could circle around the world, breaking through everything in its path before making it back to him from the other side! His power was just that impressive!
