Chapter 532: The Fate of Millions
Henry had told Mark that he should take the fight over to the southern part of the city because of how many businesses there were in the northern part. And no matter how much Mark hated that bastard, he couldn’t deny that Henry was right. Destroying residential buildings was one thing, but destroying businesses would increase the amount of time it would take for the residential buildings to be rebuilt. Especially if they ended up destroying the insurance buildings. That would just increase the time exponentially.
So, regardless of how much Mark hated it, he decided that he would do as Henry suggested.
Mark told Pat about his decision to move the anima towards the southern part of the city instead and explained why he wanted to do that.
“It’ll help the country rebuild faster if we only destroy residential buildings. Can you find the richest part in the southern area, somewhere you’re sure they would have insurance? We can take the monster to that city instead.”
Pat was obviously surprised by Mark’s suggestion, and even though Pat understood why Mark wanted to do that, he shook his head as he started to type away at his keyboard. Pat brought up a map of the country and used his Mana Detecting Software to show the various points on the map where superhumans were still fighting against anima.
Even though a lot of the superhumans were situated in City G to help out with the large influx, there were still some in other parts of the country trying to take care of stray anima, and the largest number of these superhumans were concentrated in the southern part of the city.
[Mark, I don’t think that’s going to work. I didn’t just suggest the northern area because of the buildings. I did it because that’s the area with the least number of people. When they were evacuating civilians, the superhumans focused more on evacuating the wealthy, so the northern part of the city didn’t have any civilians in it. They’ve all been moved to City S. But the southern part wasn’t so lucky. There are hundreds of people that couldn’t get into the bunker over there. You can’t take the anima south.]
Mark grit his teeth in annoyance as he realized that once more, the greed of others was fucking with a possibly salvageable situation! These fucking bastards were never going to change! So instead of evacuating everybody, they prioritized the wealthy while leaving others to suffer? It was obvious that the government was directing the superhumans towards areas where they could rescue people, so it was their fault that a lot of the southern cities weren’t properly cleared out. Mark couldn’t believe Henry still had the audacity to ask him to move the anima towards the area with more people!
ROARR!
The anima finally found out where Mark was and launched an attack on him without wasting any time. Luckily, Mark was already prepared for it and he launched himself forward from his crouched position, flying towards the anima and avoiding the wild swing that it unleashed on the building behind him! Mark pulled his fist back and unleashed a heavy punch on the monster’s face!
[Critical Hit]
BOOM!
The monster turned to the side from the hit and it stumbled back! It caught itself before it could fall and tried to launch a laser at Mark, but before it could do that, Ida was there again! Ida touched the monster on the foot, and its entire body grew ten times heavier as it was assaulted with the full force of Ida’s blessing! The monster fell to its knee from the strain, and Mark didn’t allow the opportunity to slip past as he unleashed a punch on the back of the monster’s head, sending it to the ground!
BOOM!
Mark frowned when he didn’t get a critical hit with this blow, but he wasn’t disappointed by the result as the monster was thrown to the ground since it wasn’t able to withstand both the punch and the intense gravity. The monster growled low in its throat, and a sudden pressure filled the area! Mark cursed and shouted out to Ida, telling her to get the fuck out of there, and Ida immediately let go of the monster and jumped back just as the monster unleashed a blast of its black mana from its body!
DOON!
Ida was very close to the monster since she was touching it, so even though she had jumped back, she was still dangerously near it. Mark suddenly flashed over and grabbed her by the waist, threw her over his shoulder, and dashed to the other side of the battlefield, dropping her there. Mark ignored the irritated look in her eyes as he continued talking to Pat.
“I need you to find a place in the Northern district. I can’t kill all those people just to save a few buildings. It’ll take a bit longer, but we’ll be able to rebuild. Just find a city without any insurance or construction buildings in it so the rest of them can rebuild from the money they’ll get. The city is going to be leveled, Pat, so pick the best place.”
Pat scoffed from the other side of the call as the sound of keys clacking echoed through the comms.
[No pressure at all. You really know how to put the fate of millions on my shoulders.]
Mark didn’t laugh at the joke, just watching as Alec Ben and a man he didn’t recognize teamed up with Luna to fight against the Armageddon. The man that Mark couldn’t recognize was Alpha Two, the second in command of the Alpha team, and he was currently using a large blade connected to his right arm at the wrist, as well as a bazooka slung over his left shoulder, as weapons.
Alpha Two drew the monster’s attention to him by unleashing a wave of explosions on the monster’s body. The Armageddon roared at him and aimed its laser toward him for an attack, but in that brief moment of distraction, Alec Ben and Luna unleashed their own attacks on its joints and head, trying their best to weaken it as much as possible. Luna used the heaviest water she could create to craft spikes and launch them toward the monster, while Alec Ben was carrying one of the standard-issue anima-hunting guns from the military, using it to decimate the monster.
But regardless of how much work they put into trying to cause a simple injury, they weren’t able to even scratch its tough skin. It was obvious that Mark was the only one who could cause any sort of harm to the monster with his intense strength. The monster roared and tried to take a swipe at Luna since it recognized her as the most dangerous one here, but before she could be hit, Arit swooped in and grabbed her out of the way and into the air to a safe distance.
The monster was surprised for a moment once it saw Arit, and it tilted its head to the side curiously, wondering what Arit was doing. The monster was surprised to see one of its own fighting alongside the humans, and that gave Alec Ben and Alpha Two some more time to unleash attacks on it. Alpha Two suddenly gained a little bit of extra courage, and he roared in agitation as he ran over the top of a building and jumped straight toward the monster’s nape with his sword ready to stab straight into it!
