Chapter 539: You’re A Troublesome One
‘What?’
Mark’s eyes narrowed, and he grit his teeth angrily as the monster started to reach up to grab him. Mark roared and cursed before changing his mind at the last moment and unleashing another attack from his innate constitution!
[Destruction]!
The image of a seal appeared in Mark’s mind and slammed down on the monster’s chest, rendering it unable to use its mana for some time. At that moment, Mark had stopped moving, so he had left himself open to attacks and the monster wasted no time as it grabbed hold of Mark and tossed him like a baseball, sending him through ten buildings, with the last one collapsing on top of him and burying him!
Luna shouted out for Mark and started to move towards him quickly while the other superhumans waited and watched the large monster to see what it would do next. But surprisingly, the monster didn’t attack them like they thought it would. Instead, it stumbled around groggily, releasing desperate roars and slamming its hand into the side of buildings as it tried to bring up its mana to no avail.
Mark’s Destruction ability allowed him to disrupt and block an opponent’s magic circuits for a limited amount of time. This prevented the enemy from using magic or mana until the Destruction wore off. Mark would have used this skill a long time ago, but just like Mark was capable of knowing when his critical hit or divergent hit would activate, he was also able to tell when the Destruction skill had a higher chance of activating.
And Mark knew back then that with how strong the monster was, it would have been useless to try and activate the Destruction skill with how low the chances of activation were. But with the monster delirious, in pain, and confused, the chances of the Destruction skill working on it had risen exponentially from ten percent to a point where it was almost certain!
Far from where the monster was rampaging while trying desperately to activate its magic, Mark pulled himself out from the building that had fallen on top of him just as Luna got to him.
“Mark! Are you okay!?”
Mark told Luna that he was okay, and he refused her help when she wanted to bring him to his feet. He got up and cracked his neck with a frown.
Luna looked at Mark worriedly, and in her eyes, Mark could see the question that anyone would ask at that moment.
Why didn’t he finish it when he had the chance?
Mark answered her unspoken question while narrowing his eyes in anger.
“The person inside the crystal. It’s Fiona.”
Luna was stunned, and she turned around to look at the giant rampaging monster in a new light.
“Doesn’t that mean that Fiona was the one controlling the monster all this time?”
Luna asked Mark this question, but he shook his head. That didn’t seem like the case.
“She wasn’t conscious in there. Her eyes were closed, and even when I tore the monster’s crystal apart, she didn’t open her eyes. She’s fused to the monster. I couldn’t see her hands or feet, only her face. I don’t know if she’s the one controlling the monster, but it’s like she’s some sort of battery. Fuck.”
Mark ran a gloved hand through his hair in agitation and tried desperately to think of a way to get Fiona out of there. He wouldn’t deny it—he hesitated right when he knew he could’ve ended this. If Mark had gone ahead and delivered that punch rather than using Destruction, the monster would be dead right now. But Mark just couldn’t do it. He had been looking for Fiona for so long now, ever since her fight with Gunter.
He didn’t want to kill her.
‘I have to find a way to get her out of there. Maybe I can save her and destroy the monster?’
[The system advises the user not to entertain such thoughts. The parameters of the deal between the user and Loki, the god of mischief, state that the user must kill the monster in its entirety. If the user fails to do this, then the user’s soul, along with the system, will belong to Loki. The system does not want to belong to Loki, so it urges the user to end this fight properly.]
Mark grit his teeth angrily, and Luna took a step back as Mark shouted out into the air.
“IS THIS A FUCKING GAME, LOKI!? THIS IS THE BEST YOU COULD THINK OF!? YOU FUCKING COWARD!”
Mark was breathing heavily while staring up into the sky, but this time, there was no response from Loki, instead, a mocking laugh seemed to echo from somewhere far away. Mark’s mind was racing, trying desperately to come up with a way to save Fiona and win the battle against Armageddon at the same time. There had to be a way.
‘Maybe I can behead the monster and preserve Fiona’s body somehow?’
Mark thought this as his eyes narrowed into a glare. He looked at the giant monster and remembered how Fiona’s body was fused to the beast’s forehead.
‘Would Fiona die if I behead it? Can I even behead it? Its skin is extremely tough. Tearing it, even with my strength, is almost impossible.’
Mark prepared himself to get back into the fight and find out if it would be possible to carry out the plan. If it didn’t work, then he’d think of something new. But before Mark could move, the scenery changed.
Mark was standing on a transparent platform. All around him, a sea of blue clouds floated calmly.

“You’re really a troublesome one, aren’t you?”
Mark turned around once he heard that voice and came face to face with his patron god.
“Sozin… why did you call me here?”
Sozin was floating in the air behind Mark with his legs folded under him. He was resting his cheek on his closed fist and his elbow on his knee, giving Mark a calm look. When Mark spoke, Sozin floated closer to him until he was sitting right in front of him. Then, he flicked Mark on the forehead!
BOOM!
“Fuck!”
Mark stumbled back and held his forehead in pain! He glared at Sozin in anger, and Sozin raised a brow in surprise when Mark didn’t fly back from that hit.
“I see you’ve really gotten stronger. That flick would’ve killed you a few months ago!”
“You fucking bastard! What the hell was that for!?”
“I’m trying to bring you back to your senses.”
Mark went silent, and Sozin sighed as he unfurled his legs and stood in the air in front of Mark while putting his hands in his pockets. Mark had never seen such a serious expression on Sozin’s face before, and he could tell at that moment that Sozin wasn’t playing around.
“Mark, who was it that decided that, in order to save his world, he was willing to do anything? Who was it that put his own soul on the line to protect the lives of those he loves from Loki’s schemes? It was you, Mark. You were the one who challenged Loki. You were the one who decided to make a deal with the Lord of Mischief. Did you really think – even for a second – that there would be no penalty for that? Did you think Loki would just send you to fight a monster like that without some kind of twist?”
