Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 540
Chapter 540: Don’t Forget Me
Mark gritted his teeth in anger and looked away from Sozin’s inquiring gaze. Mark knew that Sozin was right. This was Loki they were talking about. Loki would never want to lose, no matter what happened. He would always do things in a way where he either won or his opponent lost. That was the way mischievous bastards worked. And Mark had played right into his hands.
‘This is bullshit.’
Mark cursed in his mind before he spoke up.
“So, I have to kill her?”
“Yes, you do. That is the only way you can preserve your own soul. You humans may see it as backhanded, but it is the law of the universe that every organism preserves its own existence regardless of the cost. I will not lose my champion for the sake of a random human I couldn’t care less about. Kill her, Mark or I will rip her away from existence and use my celestial powers to eradicate her soul from this plane of reality.”
Mark blinked in shock when he heard that. Could Sozin really do that?
Mark didn’t know much about the levels of celestial abilities or how great of a feat what Sozin said was, but Mark knew that it had to be one of the more impressive feats, even for a god. Sozin’s words were scathing, but Mark didn’t take any offense to them since he knew what Sozin meant. Sozin was doing all this because of the deal Mark made with Loki. If Mark doesn’t kill Fiona and that monster, then Mark’s soul would belong to Loki, and Mark had no idea what Loki would do with him. He would rather not find out.
Mark nodded his head slowly and turned around to look out into the horizon. Sozin could see the acceptance slowly dawning on Mark, and Sozin knew at that moment that Mark was going to do what he needed to do. Now that Sozin was sure Mark wasn’t going to risk his life for the sake of that woman, Sozin decided his champion at least deserved a gift. It was the least he could do for all the hard work Mark had been putting in. Sozin sent out a message to Aphrodite, and before long, he got a response back granting him permission to manipulate the soul of Aphrodite’s champion. Sozin spoke up.
“You have three minutes, champion. Make it count.”
Mark blinked in surprise and turned around.
“What -?”
Sozin was gone, and in his place, someone else stood there, looking around in surprise and shock. Mark felt his breath even out into a calm sigh.
“Fiona.”
Fiona turned towards Mark when she heard her name being called, and her eyes widened in surprise.
“Mark… is this – am I in the afterlife? What are you doing here?”
Mark smiled sadly at Fiona and turned fully to look at her.
“You don’t remember what happened?”
Fiona shook her head slowly as she frowned and looked down. She couldn’t remember anything after that fight against Gunter. It was like her memories had been wiped clean. Mark sighed once she told him this, and he just gave her the simplest version of what happened.
“You were turned into an Anima, Fiona. An Armageddon class.”
Fiona’s eyes widened in shock, and she brought her head up to stare at Mark. Slowly, realization dawned on her, and before she knew it, a sad, depressed smile had spread across her face. Fiona looked down at her feet.
“You’re about to kill me, aren’t you?”
Mark nodded in affirmation. His face was set in a look of determination, and before Fiona even asked, Mark answered her next question.
“There’s no other way, Fiona.”
Fiona gritted her teeth in anger and rubbed her forearm against her eye roughly to get rid of the tears. She wasn’t going to cry in her last moments. That was so weak! When she next looked at Mark, it was with a calm look on her face and a small smile.
“Fine. Just do it. It doesn’t matter –”
“Fiona.”
“I said it doesn’t matter! I’m not some sad bitch that cries before dying! And I am not going to live as a monster that killed all those people. I won’t let that be my end! So, you better end my life and do it fucking well! Make sure no one finds out about this! Do you understand!?”
Fiona walked up to Mark and glared up at him with such intensity that Mark couldn’t find anything to say in response. He could see the fire burning in Fiona’s eyes, and he knew that she was trying her best to preserve her own legacy. Mark nodded.
“Sure. I’ll make sure no one knows what you became. I’m sorry I couldn’t save you.”
Fiona patted Mark on the chest playfully.

“Don’t become all sad on me now. There was nothing you could’ve done. I was the one that agreed to that plan, after all. Oh, and tell that Pat boy not to cry over me. He’s not a kid anymore, so he shouldn’t go around blaming himself for my death. There’s nothing he could’ve done.”
Fiona knew that Pat was new to the superhuman world, so he would most likely blame himself for her death. She didn’t want him to be held back by something like that. He was such a brilliant boy, and she knew he would be able to do great things. If he worries about every death that occurs under his watch, then he won’t go very far. Mark nodded, and Fiona continued talking.
“And Tyler too. Tell that idiot that I’m leaving the guild to him. He shouldn’t dare let it fail. And… and my parents. Help me find them and tell them their daughter did good. And… and … sniff~”
Fiona was crying again, and this time, Mark put his arms around her shoulder and held her as she cried into his chest. Mark spoke up again.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t save you.”
Fiona hit her fist on Mark’s chest as she cried. The thought of dying was something any superhuman would have gotten used to a long time ago. They all knew that there was a chance they wouldn’t survive against this Anima or the next one, but no one really wanted to die. Being faced with a situation like this, where she had no choice but to choose death, it was obvious Fiona was in emotional turmoil.
“Why…? Why do I have to do this? I don’t want to die.”
“I know.”
“Please, Mark. Please don’t forget me.”
“I won’t. I’ll never forget you, Fiona.”
Fiona nodded gratefully into Mark’s chest as her fists tightened against his shirt, and her voice came out in a husky tone as her crying finally began to die down.
“Thank you.”
Mark opened his eyes and blinked as he realized that he was back in the real world. He looked down at his arms and his eyes slowly narrowed tiredly as he found them empty. Were his three minutes already up? Mark sighed in acceptance and looked to the side.
Luna was still standing beside him, watching him with curiosity while trying to fully comprehend what he had said to her. The giant monster in the distance was trying its best to cause as much damage as possible to the region as it struggled to bring up its mana again.
There were small wisps of black mana swirling around the Armageddon at random intervals, and Mark could tell that the destruction skill was about to wear off already. They had to finish this off before it did.
He had to kill Fiona.
