Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 566
Chapter 566: Delusions
Arit was still confused about what was going on here. She didn’t know how she came to this world or what they were meant to do here, but at this moment, none of that mattered to her. She was with Mark, and she knew she would be safe with him.
Mark’s hand went to Arit’s stomach, and Arit ran her hand through Mark’s silky hair as she spoke up.
“You still haven’t told me much about what is going on, Mark. I trust you, but this is confusing. Is this something that happens to you often? You just get thrown into another world to carry out some mission?”
Mark smiled softly against Arit’s shoulder. Arit had no idea how close she was to the truth. Mark thought about how much to tell Arit in order to keep her safe while allowing her to understand what was happening properly. Arit was smart, so Mark knew that she would understand everything perfectly if he just told her. Mark couldn’t tell her everything, but he wasn’t going to let her stay in the dark for the entire mission.
Mark spoke up after a moment.
“I was sent here because of a bet my patron god made with another goddess. I’m supposed to help the demons get out of the war between them and the angels before I can win the bet. I only have a month to finish things or I lose.”
Arit’s brow furrowed in surprise.
“Oh? So that’s what it is. But this still isn’t good. Your patron god shouldn’t be using you to make bets like that. And what’s going to happen to you if you lose? Is it something dangerous?”
Mark could only laugh in amusement as he felt Arit’s worry in her words. Arit had no idea the shit Sozin had put him through. Compared to some of those things, this was a walk in the park!
Mark told her that it was something he was used to and she didn’t need to worry about the punishment. Arit smiled as she heard Mark laughing. Arit decided to just accept this for what it was. If Mark could laugh in this way even though the situation was so serious, then that just meant that Mark was more than capable of handling this.
Arit still felt a bit of worry in her heart, especially since she knew that the people they were going to be working with were literal demons, but she trusted Mark, and if Mark said everything would be okay, then Arit would take his word for it.
Arit turned around in Mark’s arms and put her hands on either side of his face while looking up at him gently. Mark didn’t resist as Arit pulled him down for a kiss. He held her waist gently, pulling her flush against his body, and Arit moaned into his mouth in contentment.
After a while, they finally separated, and Arit spoke.
“Whatever it is you have to do, I’ll be with you through it all, so you can just charge ahead to the end like always. I believe in you.”
Mark’s eyes softened as he smiled.
“Thanks, Arit.”
Arit’s eyes widened slightly as she saw the pure emotion in Mark’s gaze when he thanked her, and the blush she had been fighting quickly came over her again, making her duck her head and press it to Mark’s chest. Mark kissed her on top of the head with a smile, and Arit enjoyed the sensation for a while before they separated and left the room.
Mildred was waiting for them outside the room with a group of Orc warriors, and they all moved toward another part of the building where large golden double doors were opened to reveal an ornate throne room.
Various demons were standing on each side of the throne. On the left, the most imposing was a large Orc that towered over everyone else. He caught Mark’s eye for a moment and grunted before turning away and looking straight ahead. A female lamia stood beside him, with a large goblin in ornate silver armor and a tall humanoid werewolf that only wore a pair of ripped trousers to preserve his decency standing out most on the right-hand side.
From the way they were standing, it was obvious they were waiting for Mark to take his seat, and Mark walked forward calmly with Arit by his side and went to sit on the throne. Arit took up the space to Mark’s right hand, standing regally and glancing over the room with distrust clear in her gaze.
When Mildred tried to take up the space to Mark’s left, Arit’s glare alone was enough to make her back down, and Mildred instead went to stand with the other council members on the ground.
Once Mark was seated, the council members all bowed as one, and the female lamia spoke up.
“It is our greatest honor to welcome you, Lord Vanitas, the six hundred and sixty-sixth demon lord. May your reign be long.”
“May your reign be long!”
“May your reign be long!”
‘I wonder how they know my name. Was it something Freya did to make things easier for them to accept me?’
The room echoed with reverent praise from most of the council members, and Mark leaned forward, regarding all of them calmly. Just like Mark felt with the other demons he had seen in passing, there was some form of connection tying him to each and every demon in the room. Some form of emotional telepathy that told him what the demons were feeling.
The female lamia that spoke sounded like she meant every word of what she said while welcoming him, but there was a sense of detachment in her emotions that revealed her true thoughts. The large Orc had no reverence in his emotions, and he didn’t even speak up when the others did. It was obvious he did not agree with their acceptance of Mark.
The goblin with ornate armor seemed to have some reverence for Mark, but Mark could tell it was only born from duty and not actual admiration. But the werewolf adored Mark and from what Mark could feel, he had already accepted Mark as his king.
Everyone else in the room was leaning more toward acceptance, and Mark kept his eyes on the large Orc, deciding he would have to watch out for him and the lamia.

Of course, Mark never thought that everyone would simply accept him, as he was practically a stranger summoned and asked to rule over them. But Mark wasn’t going to allow anything to ruin his chances of winning this game. If the Orc turned out to be a problem later on, Mark would kill him.
Mark leaned back and relaxed in his seat before speaking up.
“I understand that your country is at risk of being overrun by your enemies and you summoned me in order to tip the scales back in your favor. I have my own reasons for fighting, and none of you deserve to know what those are, but know this: If you listen to my instructions and carry out your given tasks with your body and soul on the line, I swear to you that I will give back what your enemies have taken from you. The angels think they have won this war; let us dissuade them of their delusions.”
