Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 569
Chapter 569: Battle Strategies
Mark finally reached a patio at the end of a long hallway that looked out into a wide courtyard below. The sounds of murmuring and clamor of metal armor were prevalent all through the region, and before Mark even got to the patio, he could already tell that there would be thousands of people waiting for him.
Arit let go of Mark gently as she saw his face turn serious and followed behind him as he went to look down at his soldiers. And just like Mark had predicted, there were thousands of them: orcs, goblins, kobolds, centaurs, minotaurs, lamias, succubi, and incubi. They were all there, looking up at him with reverence and expectation that bordered on worship.
The moment Mark stepped up on the stage, the cheers rang out so loudly that the very ground under his feet began to shake as if an earthquake was going through the area! Mark looked across the gathered soldiers and felt a new form of resolve taking hold of him because just like he could feel the empathic connection with every single one of the council members, Mark could feel that same connection with every one below him. It was like a wave of happiness and expectation was pouring into Mark, and Mark was realizing just how much these people were depending on him.
“Did Freya give me this ability so that I would feel closer to the demons?”
Mark didn’t know why he felt so empathic toward the demons or why the emotions of the demons were affecting him so much, but he could only conclude that it was Freya’s doing. It was definitely something Freya did that allowed him to feel the emotions of the demons like this, and honestly, Mark didn’t care who was responsible for doing it. Right now, Mark did not want to lose this game, he did not want to lose to the fucking angels, and he also did not want to disappoint the hope that these demons were placing in him! He was going to get these demons their land back, no matter what.
Mark raised a hand, and to his surprise, the demons all quieted down at the same time, going from boisterous to stoic in only three seconds.
Mark smiled at his well-trained soldiers and spoke up.
“My name is Mark Vanitas, and I have been summoned here by your council to rule over this land as the six hundred and sixty-sixth demon lord…”
Another round of cheers rang out after that short introduction, and Mark allowed the demons to bask in the celebration for a short time before he raised his voice once more.
“I have heard of your struggles, your losses, and the danger you face against the Angels that have been taking up your land, and I can swear to you this: before the month is over, we will give the Angels so much hell that they will come to us themselves begging for mercy. We will show them that no matter how much they push us back! No matter how many of us they try to kill, we will not stop! We will not waver! Not until we have taken back what is rightfully ours!”
[Crown of The Golden Horizon] has been activated!
A golden hue surrounded Mark as he raised his hand in the air, and everyone watching felt their hearts soar with an intense feeling of bravery and fearlessness as Mark shouted into the night sky!
“We will show them the might of the demons!”
“YARRRRRGHHHHH!!!!”
The entire castle rumbled and shook from the intense shout that echoed through the night! The demons on the ground went into a frenzy, beating their chests, stomping their feet, and generally going raving mad as Mark’s aura fueled their agitation and desire for battle! It was like watching a group of madmen preparing to go out into war!
Arit watched all of this with wide, disbelieving eyes. The mere thought that all these people—thousands of them—were only waiting on Mark’s orders to go out into battle and begin killing others ruthlessly made her realize that this was not just a bet between the gods anymore. The gods might have been the ones that put Mark in here, but at this moment, this was real. This was a fight for survival.
And as the council members watched all of this happening, they had to admit deep in their hearts that this demon lord was nothing like the rest they had summoned.
With Lord Vanitas, victory seemed possible.
…
“We have five outposts surrounding the northern part of the continent, where the fighting is the most fierce. There are supply units here, here, and here, but due to the rising number of sieges on our outposts, we haven’t been able to get supplies to these two outposts here and here. The Angels built a large barricade somewhere east of these outposts, basically blocking access to them. The outposts are holding out well, but it is only a matter of time before they starve or die from another siege.”
Mark was standing in the middle of a large room with all of the council members around a circular table. They were looking at a large map that was spread out over the table, and one of them, a large werewolf-like creature with imposing black fur and a large scar running across his right eye, was explaining the current situation of the war to Mark. The werewolf’s name was Riger, and he was the commander of the ground forces in charge of melee battles and sieges.
Mark had to admit that things were not looking good at all. Not only were the Angels pushing the demons back effectively, but they were doing it in a way that didn’t even require much effort on their part. The Angels were basically starving the demons to death, taking them down one by one and making sure that every demon suffered as much as possible before they died.
And worst of all, the previous demon lords did not leave things in an organized manner for Mark. If not for Riger explaining things properly, Mark would have had to study these maps for days before he figured out what the fuck was going on. Mark narrowed his eyes at the outposts that were scattered around the edges of the demon lands before he pointed at one of them.
“This outpost over here, what is it defending?”
Riger pointed to another spot on the map.
“The Village of Karage, a few kilometers west of the outpost, my lord. Should the outpost go down, the village will be raided and the demons there killed. Karage is an important mining village that helps us with our metal supplies for armor production. We cannot afford to lose it.”
Mark hummed, then asked the same question about the second outpost that the Angels were trying to drive to starvation, and Riger easily answered that as well.
The second outpost protected the central town of Rodash which the demons used for trade and commerce. The demon town located there was once the largest trading center on this continent, but due to the war and the lack of supplies coming in because of the barricade set up by the Angels, the town was only a shadow of its former self.
