Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 578
Chapter 578: Plan Failed
They were also using all the elements in their arsenal—fire, water, wind, water, and darkness! They used them all to a dizzying intensity, pushing the angels further and further back until nearly half of them had been killed!
But the half that remained were standing strong against the demons, and in the middle of this stood Commander Raphael, who fought with a sword in one hand and a long spear in the other. He stood like a bastion of hope—a mad gladiator facing off against a never-ending horde of enemies as he cut down and destroyed demon after demon! Raphael’s fervor was so intense that even the angels couldn’t help but feel slightly intimidated by his aura!
Raphael flew through the air and stabbed a demon out of the sky! He slashed another demon that tried to attack him from the side and finally used a burst of light magic to deflect a Dark Fire spell shot at him! He swerved in the air, spinning in the same move to decapitate another demon, and finally destroyed a large orc that had brandished a large club to try and swat him out of the air!
Raphael landed in the middle of a large encirclement of demons and glared at them all, daring them to move toward him. The demons recognized the threat of Raphael’s existence, and they all felt a slight fear in their hearts that made them hesitate to move toward him at all.
But, slowly, they started to creep forward, making the circle around him smaller as they used their superior numbers to their advantage. Raphael gripped his sword tighter as he prepared for an attack, but his eyes suddenly moved upwards as he felt something staring down at him. A monster is watching me.
It was the undead once again.
The undead had been on Raphael’s mind all this time, gnawing at his consciousness and warning him that there was something very wrong. Raphael knew that to end this war, the first thing he would need to do was kill this undead. But even the knowledge of what he was supposed to do did not allow Raphael to complete that action. Raphael felt oppressed by the undead’s aura.
In all honesty, Raphael was not confident in his ability to win. He had never seen the undead before, and he did not know what sort of power the undead possessed, but Raphael knew in his heart of hearts that there was nothing that would allow him to win against that monster. It was the same way a beast would avoid confrontation with a larger or stronger beast to preserve its own life. Raphael might be strong, but that did not mean he was stupid.
Raphael narrowed his eyes at Mark, trying to think of a way to deal a damaging blow to him. Even though Raphael knew that he would not win, the least he could do was damage him enough so that the other angels would stand a chance of winning. But before he could even do that, there was a sudden blinding light that shone around the undead.
Raphael felt his heart pounding in his chest as he thought it was going to be some sort of attack spell that the undead wanted to release, but it turned out to be nothing of that sort—it was something much, much worse. Slowly, Raphael watched as the demons around him gained a boost in their confidence. Each and every one of them gripped their swords tighter, shouted louder, and started to bare their teeth at Raphael like they hadn’t just been afraid of him a moment before! There was a sudden madness that overcame them, as though they were only just waking up from sleep and were now out for blood!
The same effects could be seen everywhere in the demon army! Every single demon suddenly gained a fervor that was beyond anything the angels had ever seen in them before! If they were asked to describe what they were seeing now, they could only describe it in one way: the demons were raving mad!
Mark reached out for his Fangs, and it surged to life, lashing out at Raphael before the angel even knew what was going on! Raphael was shocked as he felt something wrap around his feet, and in the next moment, he was being flung through the air like a ragdoll! He slammed into the ground more than two hundred meters away before he was brought up and slammed to the ground again, and again, and again!
Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!
It was like watching a child playing with its toy, and the large orc general that had already experienced this before couldn’t help but smile slightly as he saw it being used on the angel! He knew firsthand just how disorienting and humiliating this was, so he was sure it would break the angel’s spirit very well!
Mark raised the general from the ground after he was done pummeling him and brandished him like a trophy to the entire battlefield, and the demons all roared with renewed vigor as they charged for the remaining angels once more! And this time, it was without any regard for their own safety! Due to the boost gotten from [Crown of the Golden Horizon], as well as watching the enemy commander be so brutally beaten, they gained a confidence and audacity that prevented them from caring about their lives as they tried their best to kill the angels!
Mark watched calmly from above on his griffon. He surveyed the battlefield and gave orders to the commanders around him on where they should move their forces and focus more on the fighting. Mark could already tell from how the battle was going that it wouldn’t be long before the rest of the angels were either dead or retreating. And if the angels tried to retreat again, then it would be easy for the demons to simply chase them down from behind and kill them all.
But then something happened that seemed to shift the tide of everything happening around. Arit came up to Mark from the side, wiping the blood on her cheek with her bloody hands before she pointed forward and drew Mark’s attention to the horizon.
“Mark, look. There’s something there. Isn’t that one of your signals?”
Mark’s brow furrowed in surprise as he followed her hand, and his eyes immediately narrowed once he saw what she had been pointing to.
A plum of red smoke floating into the air.
Plan Failed.
‘What?’
Mark was so stunned by the smoke that, for a few seconds, he could do nothing but stare and wonder what the fuck was going on. The red smoke was the signal that showed the plan had failed, and that the army needed to prepare for anything. Mark couldn’t even begin to understand which part of the plan had failed. They were about to finish off the Angel here, and there were no signs of anything going wrong.
“The smoke came from the outpost close to the mining town. Don’t tell me they weren’t able to hold the Angels back for even this long?”
