Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 583
Chapter 583: A Look of Despair
“N-No one, my lord. This has been done since the beginning of the war. Whenever the demons win against an angel stronghold, we take their riches and homes, rape the wives, and kill the children.”
Mark’s hand tightened when he heard this. Mildred spoke with such certainty and ease that it was obvious this was just the way they lived. Mark felt foolish at that moment. He should have realized that something like this would be the case right from the start. These were demons, not humans. They weren’t going to abide by the rules that the people in his world lived by, and they weren’t going to just allow the survivors to have an easy death after a war.
Mark turned to the demons relieving themselves and saw that some of the other demons were either waiting their turn or cheering and jeering as they watched their fellow soldiers taking turns with the angels. The angel females were crying and begging for mercy, but the demons turned a deaf ear to it, not caring for them at all as they continued.
One of the females that didn’t look a day above eighteen had already given up; she was just lying limply on the ground as she was taken. Her dull, lifeless eyes stared up at Mark with an empty resolution, and Mark felt his blood boil even more.
‘Calm down, Mark. Calm down.’
Mark tried to calm himself like this by taking in a few breaths, and then he spoke to Mildred.
“Tell the demons to stop their actions and kill all the female angels that were raped. Take the children as hostages and return with them to the castle. If any of the demons resist or try to prevent you from doing as I say, then kill them as well.”
Mark’s tone left no room for argument, and although Mildred was shocked by the order, she didn’t dare argue when she saw the look of anger on Mark’s face. Mildred immediately flew forward and began to give out Mark’s orders, telling the soldiers to stop their actions and kill the females.
The soldiers were stunned by this, and many of them turned to stare up at Mark in surprise. Mark could feel the confusion slowly starting to change to irritation in their hearts, and he just kept his calm disposition as he watched. Some of the demons did not dare to offend Mark, so they did as they were told and came off the angel females, killing them before taking the children along to return. But there were others who did not listen to Mildred’s orders as they were too lost in ecstasy, and Mark wasted no time in using his Fangs to strangle them.
The demons died without even knowing what had killed them, but everyone else knew that this skill was something only the demon lord could use, and they looked up at Mark as he spoke up to all of them.
“Prepare to return to the castle. You will obey my command or die.”
The demons finally hustled to move out from the barricade and return to the castle. Mark turned the griffon around and flew past the demons following behind him. Arit followed after Mark calmly without showing any reaction to what she had just seen. Arit also understood that there was a wide cultural and moral gap between humans and demons, so she knew that the demons did not think that what they were doing was wrong. But Arit also didn’t care for the angels at all, so she didn’t care what happened to them.
Mark called on a large number of demons, and he flew back to the outpost close to the trading town with about fifty of them to take a look at what had happened there. There were signs of battle littered all around the area, with bodies and scorch marks scattered on the floor. All of the demons that had been here were already dead, and Mark turned and asked Mildred to handle the dead bodies as the demons normally would.
Mildred flew down towards Riger, the head of the ground forces, and told him Mark’s orders, and Riger nodded before calling out to many of the soldiers and telling them what to do. The soldiers gathered the bodies of the demons in the center of the outpost and immediately lit the bodies on fire with Dark Magic, allowing them to burn bright and fierce into the evening sky.
The barricade where the angels had been hindering the movement of the outpost protecting the trading town was just like the other barricade close to the mining town: with many civilian angels that had been left behind as the soldiers went out to fight.
The female angels were holding onto their children with fear in their eyes. They had been waiting for the angel soldiers to return, so they never thought about running away, and now that the demons were already here, they knew that there was no chance for them to escape. The female angels were not foolish, and they knew what would happen to them, so they could only hold their children tightly and pray to their god that they were protected.
Mark kept his gaze calm as he watched them. Some of the demons on the ground were already advancing forward with leering looks, but one pulse of Mark’s aura was enough to stop them all, and Mark made them back off fearfully. Mark gave the same order to the demons, telling them to kill the older females and capture the children, but another demon suddenly came toward Mark on a Griffon. It was the leader of the goblins, the goblin general Hunn.
The general bowed when he reached Mark and flew at a position just below Mark, showing his respect and reverence by his actions. Mark looked down at the general and listened as he began to speak.
“My Lord, if I may be so presumptuous as to assume, I believe that our traditions and beliefs differ from those in the world you come from. I am truly grateful for all that you have done for us. You have not only led us to victory against the angels, you have allowed us to reclaim two of our most important towns to allow trading and commerce to continue in our land. But please, I implore you to spare some of the women and have them be given over to the soldiers. These are warriors who have risked their lives and sanity for the sake of defending their people, and they feel it is their battle-right to have these women as their prize. Taking it from them might not only breed discord in the army, but it might lead to unneeded conflict that will arise when the men start forcing themselves on demon women.”
Mark grit his teeth as he heard all of this. Mark was not a stranger to the rush of sex after battle. Mark knew how it felt to come from a life-and-death scenario. There was a feeling of intensity in your body that just made you desperate to lay with a woman at that time. It was something that Arit had helped Mark with many times in the past, even though she didn’t know it. If not for her, Mark didn’t know how sane he would be after risking his life over and over like that. But Mark could still not fully accept this. This wasn’t just sex.
