Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 590
Chapter 589: There’s A Traitor
Mark chuckled as he imagined Arit shouting at their kids to go to bed because it was late or telling them to eat their vegetables when she makes it for them. Arit already nags at him whenever he does something silly, so he knows it would be no different for their kids.
But that doesn’t mean Mark loved her any less and even though the kids might complain a lot, Mark was more than sure that they’ll love her too.
“You would nag at them, but I don’t think anyone can hate you, Arit. You’ve been taking care of Talia all this while, and I don’t know anyone better at caring for others than you. You’ll spoil our kids rotten, and they’ll fucking love you. I’m sure of it.”
Arit chuckled as she imagined a little boy with Mark’s face and black hair running around the house and helping her with errands, and she felt her blush deepen even more.
“Let’s have a big family, Mark. When everything calms down and we’re both ready. Let’s have many, many kids.”
Mark smiled and ran his hand through Arit’s hair again as he imagined having a large family living together out in the countryside. It wasn’t a bad dream to have at all as far as Mark was concerned.
“Yeah. I’d really like that.”
Even though Mark knew that his life was probably never going to be that calm with all the craziness surrounding him every day, he would try his best to make sure his kids didn’t suffer through the same thing. Fuck the gods and fuck the anima. Mark was going to make sure they never touched his kids.
Arit sighed as she slowly started to drift off into sleep after the stress of everything that had gone on today started to catch up to her. She had come straight from the real world and was thrown straight into fighting a battle she had no idea about just a few days ago, so Mark wasn’t surprised that she was tired.
But Mark didn’t plan on sleeping just yet, because there was something that had been stuck in his head ever since they came back from the raid on the Angel barricades. During the fight at the outposts, more than three hundred Angels appeared from the trading outpost as reinforcements to defeat the demons.
But the reports from the sentries who went to check had said there were only about a hundred Angels in that part of the barricade. If there were only that many Angels, then where the hell did the extra two hundred Angels that attacked them come from?
A possibility danced in Mark’s mind right now. In fact, he had been thinking about it for a very long time now, and it was only because of the surprise attack that this thought was forced to the forefront of his mind.
“We have a traitor in the demon army.”
Mark mumbled this conclusion in a low tone as he stared up at the ceiling while running his hand down the curve of Arit’s spine gently. It was the only reasonable conclusion he could reach after facing off against the Angels and seeing how they managed to form a counterattack so quickly at such a dire moment.
The attacks the demons planned on those barricades weren’t something they had been doing for a long time; it was literally planned only two days ago and sent out to the generals at the outpost that same day. The only way the Angels would be able to call for reinforcements that quickly was if someone in the demon army sent out a message to the Angels on the same day that the message to the outposts was sent out.
And if they were able to send out the messages that quickly, then that could only mean that the traitor was someone from the higher ranks of the demon army. The members of the council are the only people that Mark told about the plan that early, so they’re the only ones who could have sent the message out for the reinforcements to come that quickly.
According to the research done by the demon army, the closest Angel military outpost that could have come in to support was about a day away. That meant they got that message, made a plan, and immediately started to move out so that they would get to the outpost at the same time as the demons.
The Angels didn’t have time to tell the others at the barricade about the reinforcements coming because of the short notice, but they met up with the Angels fighting against the demons at the trading outpost, killed the demons, and started making their way to the mining outpost to kill the demons there too.
The only reason the Angels weren’t able to clear out all of the demons was because they underestimated Mark. Did the traitor not tell them that he would be there? Or maybe the traitor underestimated him too and thought that the S tiers would be able to handle him since there were two of them.
Mark frowned as this thought crossed his mind, wondering if he was missing something. But he shook his head, realizing he wasn’t. The Angels sent out two S-tiers and multiple A-tiers. It wasn’t that the Angels didn’t think Mark would be there; it’s just that they didn’t think he’d be as strong as he was. They underestimated him, and that was the reason why it was so easy for him to kill that first S-tier Angel. Once she was dead, everything else fell apart from there.
“Mmh~ Mark, you’re still awake? What is it? Is something on your mind?”
Arit’s sleepy voice reached Mark as she shifted a bit on his chest to get more comfortable. She knew he must be tired from the battles he fought and the intense session they just had, so he should be asleep already. The only reason he wouldn’t be sleeping was if something was bothering him. Mark hummed calmly before he answered truthfully.
“I think there’s a traitor in the demon army. I’m thinking about how to find out who it is.”
There was a beat of silence, and for a moment, Arit froze as though she had been turned to stone! But then she suddenly sat up in bed with wide, shocked eyes that stared down at Mark in surprise! What did he just say? A traitor!? Arit hadn’t even thought about the possibility of something like that, so hearing it from Mark was enough to make her jump straight out of sleep!
“What do you mean there’s a traitor? What…? How? Is it because of the attack from earlier? The reinforcements that came to help the Angels?”
Mark reached out and brought Arit back down so they could talk in low whispers. They were in a new world, and he didn’t know who he could trust in the army. Someone might be listening in on their conversation, so he didn’t want Arit to spill the news of a traitor before he could come up with a proper plan for catching them.
Mark nodded as Arit shuffled closer to him and rested her chin on his chest. She looked up at him while lying her body on top of his and tangling their legs together.
