Chapter 606: Rushing Back To The Stronghold
The captain wasted no time ordering the soldiers back to the ships to retreat! They had to get back to the castle now! The captain didn’t know how many people were attacking the castle, but she knew they could not lose that stronghold, no matter what. That castle was located at a strategic point in the Angel continent, just like Aragon Island was located at a strategic point on the demon island. Losing it would give the demons an upper hand they couldn’t afford!
The Angels from Myriad Castle heard the shout from their captain, and even though they were surprised by the sudden order, they wasted no time pulling out from the battle raging and heading toward the ships to move back to the castle. The Angels that had been on Aragon Island were surprised by the sudden order to retreat as well, but they did not have the luxury to be bothered for too long, as they had to continue fending off the rampaging demons that had come from the southern islands.
The demons from the northern islands, though, were a different story, as Arit flew past many of the battles raging around her toward where Hunn was fighting off a large Angel who looked like he was jacked up on steroids! Hunn had already stabbed the Angel in the leg and was using his shorter stature to stay away from the Angel while trying to gain leverage to put his spear into the Angel’s stomach, but Hunn never got the chance, as Arit appeared from behind the Angel and stabbed her hand straight through his body!
SQUELCH!
The Angel gasped in shock and turned his head around to glare hatefully at Arit, but Arit just pulled her hand out with another wet sound and pushed the Angel away. The angel staggered for a moment before falling to the ground lifelessly. Hunn just stared at the dead Angel with a strange resignation in his eyes. That had been his opponent, and he wanted to feel the satisfaction of winning against him, but Arit had taken that away from him, so Hunn felt a little annoyed. But he managed to bury the annoyance inside him as he heard Arit speak.
“Hunn, we have to go after the Angels. They’re retreating to the Myriad Castle to stop Mark.”
Hunn’s brow furrowed. What the hell was Arit talking about? The demon lord was at the Myriad Castle? Why was he there? Wasn’t the demon lord supposed to be at the eastern reef, where he said he would come from? Hunn thought Mark was still going along with the initial plan, so he was completely lost when he heard Arit’s words.
But Arit easily gave him a rundown and told him that Mark went to Myriad Castle instead of the eastern reef. Mark captured the castle, and he would need help dealing with the large number of demons coming toward the castle now.
Hunn’s brow furrowed once he heard this, and he was skeptical for a few seconds, but then Hunn realized that he hadn’t seen the demon lord at all since the start of the battle. If the demon lord came in from the eastern reef, then shouldn’t they have already seen him on the battlefield? There was a possibility that Arit was telling the truth.
And besides, even if she wasn’t telling the truth, it was a good opportunity for them to deal even more damage to the Angels if they chased after and destroyed the retreating ship. That was reason enough for Hunn to agree as he spoke up quickly!
“To the ships! Demons to the ships! Don’t let the Angels get away!”
Hunn and many of the demons around him immediately tore through the small number of Angels that were blocking their path to the ships and managed to get onboard. The demons took half of the ships and chased after the retreating angels while the others stayed back to continue fighting against the angels on the island. The demons from the southern part of the continent were also still battling the Angels from Aragon Island. With the amount of damage done by the Angels’ retreat from the Myriad Castle, the demons had the upper hand, and Hunn could see them winning against the Angels with their superior numbers. And even if they couldn’t win, the demons that had left would come back after destroying the Angel ships to support the demons on the island!
The demon ships took off, and Hunn continued shouting orders to all of them, directing them to aim their spells at the ship in front and start firing! The Angel ship was at least four times larger than any of the demon ships, but it was still just one ship. So, the demons formed a semicircular formation behind it, allowing them to follow close while still being able to launch spells at the Angel ship without hitting each other.
However, even though the demons had the upper hand in numbers and firepower, the Angels weren’t sitting idly by. They began firing spells back at the demons from behind their ship and formed light shields that protected them against the dark spells the demons were casting. The sea raged and churned, still stirred by the intense waves from the storm, and the rain prevented either side from being able to fly over and board the enemy’s ship. They were locked in a stalemate of attack-defense-attack, over and over again.
It wasn’t until more than twenty minutes had passed that they finally saw the large Myriad Castle looming over them. The Angels in the larger ship grew visibly tense almost immediately, and many of them moved to the front of the ship to get a good look at the castle and assess the damage. They saw the twin towers which served as outlooks for the sentries, had been severely damaged. The dead bodies lying on the ground and the blood painting the front wall of the castle only served to increase the anxiety in their hearts.
There had been a bloodbath in their absence.
But none of these things held their gaze for more than a few seconds at a time. Instead, all of them looked as one up at the apex of the castle—the highest point atop the tower that overlooked the ocean. There was a single man sitting on the tower of the castle, and another figure hanging off the side of the tower wall. The Angels realized in shock that the figure hanging off the side of the tower was Rachael, the daughter of Duke Grant!
The female captain of the ship felt her blood boiling as she took in the scene. She wanted to immediately obliterate the figure in the distance with their light spells, but she couldn’t be sure if the spell would hit the Duke’s daughter or not. It was obvious that the man was using Rachael as a shield to prevent them from firing at him!
The figure stood up, and one of the Angels on the ship cried out as they saw blue lightning arcing around his hand.
“He’s going to fire at us!”
“Light shields! Get our light shields up!”
The Angels scurried to craft light shields around the ship as they watched the figure raise his hand into the air and in the next moment, the wrath of the heavens descended upon them.
