Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 613
Chapter 613: Self Preservation
Kaylen either told the angels where Mark would be coming from while hoping that Mark would be killed by their ambush, or Kaylen told someone else about the position even after Mark told her explicitly not to tell another soul about it.
Either option was bad enough to warrant death as far as Mark was concerned. Mark despised traitors and had no use for someone who was incapable of listening to even the most basic commands.
Kaylen squeezed her hand against the table and tried her best to keep her heart rate under control as she wondered what Mark was going to do.
Truthfully, Kaylen felt angry inside her heart! She was so stupid not to have looked into the information that the demon lord sent to her before sending it to the Angels. If she had checked what the demon lord told the other members of the council before going, then she would have figured out that the demon lord was trying to catch her!
Kaylen had to try to find a way out of this. This was the first time anyone would be suspicious of her, so she knew that she could get out of it if she lied well enough.
Kaylen had been selling information to the Angels for a long time now. She had made a deal with the Angels a long time ago to ensure that when the demons were finally defeated, she and her clan would be spared and allowed to continue working as a subsidiary of the trading division in what would be the new demon kingdom.
Kaylen was a demon, and she cared more about herself than anything else. It didn’t matter if every single demon was killed by her actions, as long as she and the people that she cared about were fine; she didn’t care about anything else.
It had been obvious for a long time now that demons did not stand a chance against the Angels. Kaylen had watched the demons slowly losing to the Angels for years now, and she knew that if she did not do something, then all of them would be eradicated!
Wasn’t it better if Kaylen and the other members of her clan were spared rather than them all being eradicated?
Kaylen had just been doing what was best for them!
Kaylen tried her best to calm down before she spoke up calmly.
“My lord, I-I can explain. If you would just let me—Urk!”
Kaylen’s words died in her throat as the Fang burst to life and grabbed her by the throat!
The Fang pressed Kaylen back into the chair as she was choked, and Kaylen reached up and tried to pry it off desperately, but there was nothing that she could do as it continued to choke her. Mark was staring down at her with impassive, narrowed eyes that showed no emotion at all, and Kaylen’s tail swayed from side to side desperately as she tried to say something to him. But Mark did not listen as he wrapped the chains tighter around her neck and started to twist!
“URK!”
Mark wanted to kill her right there. Just the mere fact that she was willing to throw all of them under the bus for her personal gain was enough reason to kill her. People who would betray the trust you have in them weren’t worth keeping around, but Kaylen was the worst sort of traitor. Kaylen was the sort that would smile and laugh in your face, but would not think twice about leading you into your death.
Slowly, after about a minute of constant choking, Kaylen’s tail stopped swinging around erratically and finally stilled, and she stopped moving as her eyes rolled to the back of her head. Mark tightened his grip.
The council members all thought that this was where she would die and that would be the end of it, but they were stunned when Mark suddenly pulled back from Kaylen and allowed her unconscious body to fall to the side limply! Kaylen had passed out, and the marks around her throat showed just how much damage had been done to her, but her chest was still moving to show that she had not died just yet.
Mark gave Kaylen a look of disgust before he turned and started walking back to his seat while talking to Hunn.
“Get someone to clean up that trash and move it to the dungeon. She’ll be executed later.”
Hunn immediately called two of the goblin soldiers at the door, and they quickly went to do as they were told. They grabbed Kaylen and dragged her out of the room and to the dungeon. Mark kept his glare fixed on Kaylen as she was carried out and he turned back to the rest of the council members with an intense look in his eyes once the guards left.
The remaining members of the council all just stayed silent and waited for Mark to say something first. In truth, the members of the council weren’t as convinced as Mark was about Kaylen being a traitor. The only person who could confirm or deny that Kaylen was the traitor was Kaylen herself, and from what they heard, she had done nothing but deny it all this while.
Some of them who were more sympathetic toward Kaylen felt like the demon lord was not being just and they did not believe that Kaylen could possibly be a traitor. But those who were not sympathetic towards her did not even doubt the demon lord for a moment!
Instead, they were stunned by the ingenuity with which Mark managed to capture Kaylen! Using the different positions he told them as a trap was something that revealed Mark’s strategic ability to them and gave them even more hope in the coming battles! If Mark was able to recognize the presence of a traitor and snuff them out this well, then there was nothing that happens in the army that Mark would not be able to handle well in the future!
Mark was able to grasp the general emotion of the entire board without needing to even say anything. He understood that he had both allies and neutrals here.
Mark spoke up.
“Grunn.”
The large orc that had first challenged Mark when he came to this world sat up straight as Mark called his name and responded in a hard tone.
“My Lord.”
Mark gave the orc a narrowed stare as he watched his reaction to what he would say next very closely.

“You were close with Kaylen, weren’t you? I want you to look me in the eye and tell me who else was working with her.”
Mark opened his senses and waited for Grunn to say something. Mark’s ability to sense the feelings of his subordinates only worked when they were thinking about or talking about a specific thing, so now that Mark had put Grunn on the spot like this, he knew that he would be able to sense if Gunn was lying with his next words.
Grunn stood up sharply and bowed to Mark.
“My lord, I know my words may not mean much, but I swear to you that I did not know anything about what Kaylen was planning. I was just as surprised as everyone else to realize that she had been selling information to the Angels.”
He wasn’t lying.
