Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 615
Chapter 615: Duke Grant
“We’ll hit them hard and fast, and before they can figure out what is going on, we’ll already be finished. Is that clear?”
The members of the council all gained surprised looks on their faces as they heard Mark’s plan. Not taking the stronghold was not a bad plan at all. But the only issue with that plan was that it would allow the Angels to take over the stronghold again and rebuild their forces once the demons were gone.
But was that really a bad thing?
If they raze a stronghold to the ground, burn its walls down, and kill the soldiers protecting it, it would take at least a week for the Angels to rebuild. That meant they would be able to attack them again and again at the different strongholds without expecting any form of retaliation from the previous stronghold that they had just destroyed for at least another week.
The council members all agreed to Mark’s decision to simply raze the strongholds without taking control of them. It was smarter than putting a small number of soldiers in a stronghold that could be taken back at any moment and it would help their forces to remain motivated since they would be fighting many winning battles one after another.
Once Mark saw that everyone was in agreement, he turned to Riger, the large werewolf in charge of the ground forces.
“Riger, how are the war efforts going back on Trinidad?”
Even though Mark had reduced the number of Angels on the demon continent by a lot, that does not mean he was able to eradicate all of them. There were still many Angels in Trinidad, and the demons that were left behind had been working hard to eradicate all of them. Due to the lack of support from the other Angels and the sudden ferocity of the demons, those Angels were not going to be able to put up a fight for long, but that does not mean the Angels weren’t dangerous.
Riger nodded and spoke up while presenting a letter from the leader of the forces remaining on Trinidad.
“The demons have managed to push the Angels back to the desert region. They should be able to starve them over there and before the week is over, the general predicts that the Angels will either surrender or die out.”
Mark nodded.
“Good, send a letter back telling them to use wind magic to create sandstorms. It’ll contaminate their water and food and prevent them from lasting any longer without sustenance. If any of them surrenders, then take them in as prisoners of war and hold them in the dungeons. We will need them later.”
Riger accepted the order, and Mark turned back to the rest of the council.
“Very well, Hunn and Riger will draft up a plan of action and submit it to me, while the rest of you will prepare the soldiers for the coming battles. Give the soldiers enough rest and food, and then tomorrow we will begin moving towards the first stronghold.”

[The Angel Continent – The Central Castle of Duke Grant]
A large castle built from marble and limestone stood majestically against the rising sun like a bastion of strength. In front of the castle, around the courtyard, hundreds of soldiers could be seen training and up on the walls, sentries marched in perfect form as they kept a lookout and protected the castle grounds. Inside the castle, an entire swarm of servants were bustling about to clean, prepare meals, and make sure everything was in perfect order for the sake of their duke.
The lord of this castle was a man named Duke Grant. Duke Grant was a slim, tall Angel who had long white hair and blue eyes. He and his family lived in the central region of the castle—the area that was most protected by the soldiers—but he hadn’t been to his main quarters for a very long time now for various reasons.
The reason that was most obvious to everyone was because of the recent increase in demon attacks in and around the territory of Duke Grant. Not only had the Aragon Island been taken by the demons, but so had the Myriad Castle and the territory around it. Duke Grant had not had a single night of peaceful sleep all this while since he had been busy trying to come up with a plan of action with his generals in the war room.
But another reason for Duke Grant not going back to his quarters that was only spoken about in hushed whispers among the servantwomen was because of the current feud that was going on between the duke and his wife. It had all started a year ago when Duke Grant sent out his only daughter, Rachael, to live in the Myriad Castle.
The duchess was obviously against sending their daughter all the way over there, but the duke would not hear anything about it, and he made the choice to send her there because of how much shame she brought to the family with her one wing. The relationship between the duke and duchess was already strained back then. But after hearing that the Myriad Castle was attacked and their daughter was taken captive, it was as though the relationship between the Duke and Duchess finally reached a breaking point and simply fell apart!
They did not talk to, acknowledge, or even want to see each other! Staying in the same room was impossible, and the duchess would always throw a mad fit whenever her husband tried to get into a room with her. The duchess was not in the wrong. She knew that the Myriad Castle had always been a risky place due to how close it was to the demons’ continent, and her fear for her daughter’s life had been a legitimate thing.
But the Duke did not care.
The duchess had no idea just how much shame Rachael had been bringing to him. Anytime Rachael went to a function or when she came out to greet dignitaries that visited them, it was always embarrassing to see the look of slight disgust that would pass over the faces of those dignitaries whenever they saw Rachael’s torn wing. It not only brought shame, but it also prevented him from being able to hold his head high in such meetings. Once people knew that there was a deformity in your family, they immediately start to look down on you.
The duke refused to acknowledge that his choice to exile Rachael was the wrong one at first, but now that something like this had happened, it was like the duchess was always throwing his mistake in his face. Telling him that it was his fault their daughter was gone and he should have never done what he did. After a while, it got too annoying, so the duke just decided to not be in the same room with her at all.
James, the Duke’s eldest son, was talking to his father about how they were going to carry out the attack on the Myriad castle. They got news from one of the strongholds out in the eastern parts that the demons were starting to move, so it would be best if they could cut off the demons’ advancement and apprehend them before they could get to another stronghold.
Duke Grant nodded as he looked down at the map and then he asked his son a question.
“What about the informant in the demon army? Have they said anything yet?”
