Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 616
Chapter 616: Surprise Attacks
“What about the informant in the demon army? Have they said anything yet?”
James shook his head with a frown. James already had a distrust for that informant from the very beginning. It would be foolish for anyone to trust a demon, as far as James was concerned. But the recent capture of the Myriad Castle only served to make James’ distrust grow.
How did the demons manage to take the Castle and Island if the informant gave them the right information before the war even began?
There were only two possibilities that James could guess had happened. Either the informant betrayed them and gave out the wrong information to fool the Angels into thinking they had the upper hand, or the demons had found out about the informant and they forced them to give out wrong information to fool the Angels.
Either one of those possibilities did not bode well for the Angels, and if they tried to trust that informant again, it could lead them straight into a trap!
Duke Grant hummed tiredly once James told him that they hadn’t gotten anything from the informant yet. They had been in this meeting for almost three hours already, and it was starting to get mentally exhausting. The Duke did not have the same suspicions that his son did, but once he heard James’ reasons about why they shouldn’t trust the informant again, he could see the sense in it. Maybe it was best that they didn’t listen to the demon informant anymore.
But if they didn’t have anyone telling them how the demons were going to be moving, things would get more difficult. They had to set up some sort of communication path between the various strongholds to make sure they could report demon movement as quickly as possible.
“Provide young messenger hawks to every stronghold in the region and tell them to use them in reporting the demon movement to the various strongholds around them. The messengers that were sent out to the Myriad Castle, what did they find?”
James spoke up calmly while pointing to the area around the Myriad Castle.
“The demons haave set up a perimeter around the castle with sentries looking out for any approaching armies. The ocean is right behind them, so it is practically impenetrable other than from this area. But there was something strange as well. The sentry reported that they saw a small fire burning in the area. Normally, the demons would immediately burn the bodies of the Angel soldiers killed in battle, but this time, the number of soldiers being burned was far less than we thought they would be. Almost like not all the soldiers were killed.”
Duke Grant turned to his son with a curious look while trying to understand what he was getting at. There’s no way James is saying what Grant thinks he is saying.
“Are you trying to tell me the demons took them prisoner?”
“…”
James was silent. Even to him, it sounded absurd. The demons were known to only take women as prisoners, and those women were never seen again after they were taken. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what the demons had been doing with them. So hearing that the demons had taken men as prisoners was beyond confusing.
‘Don’t tell me the demons have become so depraved that they would do such things to men as well…’
Grant thought this for a moment before shaking his head and deciding not to allow that to affect the progress of their plans. They had no idea what the demons were doing with the angels they had captured, so there was no need to dwell on it too much.
Grant ordered them all to head out and begin preparing the soldiers for the raid on Myriad Castle.
“And send word to the king informing him about everything that happened here.”
James frowned in annoyance.
“But why? The king won’t do anything about this even if he knows. We can’t expect help from that child.”
“Watch your tongue boy, that child is your king and you will not disrespect him in front of me. And it may be true that he will not send help, but he still has to know. Just do as I say.”
James frowned in slight annoyance as his father reprimanded him before he finally nodded, and Grant looked back at the map. It would take at least two days to prepare all the angels and for them to fly over to Myriad Castle from the Duke’s main castle. In the meantime, they would task the other strongholds with weakening the demons and making sure they couldn’t advance.
“My Lord, come quick! There’s a fire on the horizon!”
One of the soldiers that had been watching out for attacks as a sentry quickly flew towards the large window at the side of the meeting room and spoke urgently. The Duke turned to him in shock and asked where the fire was. The soldier pointed out into the horizon, towards the eastern part of the region, and the Duke looked out to see a large plume of smoke rising through the air, painting the sky black. Wasn’t that the stronghold under General Finn!?
“Send out reinforcements right now! I want at least fifty soldiers prepared to leave in five minutes! James, lead the soldiers over and see what you can salvage. Make sure you do not engage the demon lord if he is present! That bastard’s head is mine!”
James quickly nodded before flying out from the window to prepare to leave.
…
“My lord, are you certain about leaving them alive? We can kill them or take them back to Myriad Castle as prisoners.”
Mark heard Mildred speaking up from beside him as they made their way north towards another one of the strongholds in the region. They had just finished razing a castle to the ground. After killing many of the angels, Mark ordered them to leave the remaining angels alive and burn the place to the ground.
The reason for this was simple: Mark did not want to lose the element of surprise he currently had.

The attack they had just finished went so well because the angels there never expected it. Mark and his small army came in the dead of night when no one could see them and attacked from a region that had the least amount of sentries. The entire battle didn’t even last two hours, and by the end of it, Mark had already killed the head of the castle as well as the more powerful angels. The demon army had decimated the rest of the angels, reducing their numbers to less than twenty percent.
But now that Mark had done this, it was obvious that the other strongholds would see the smoke and know there was a demon army moving around. The likelihood of sneaking up on a second stronghold was next to none.
That meant nothing to Mark, though. While Mark was attacking this stronghold, he had sent Hunn, Riger, and other demon generals to the other strongholds with small armies specialized for attacking the angels and destroying strongholds.
Their task during these attacks wasn’t to win the battle outright. Their task was to ensure the strongholds didn’t have the ability to launch counterattacks against them. They were focusing more on launching spells from a distance and avoiding direct confrontation unless absolutely necessary. Mark was carrying out a masterclass of surprise attacks.
