Chapter 620: The Duke and The King
“My Lord.”
Mark turned back to the entrance as he heard Hunn’s voice and Mark hummed in response. Hunn bowed to Mark and spoke up in a calm tone.
“I am sure you had already prepared yourself for a lot of backlash from the rest of the demon army with regards to your plan, and I respect you for that. Be assured that I stand by this decision of yours and I will do my best to bring as many demons as possible under your banner.”
Mark gave a small smile at the declaration and he nodded towards Hunn.
“Thank you, Hunn. I am glad to have someone as wise as you in my council. Your loyalty will be remembered.”
Hunn bowed once more and then he left.
…
The Angels had set up a rudimentary camp a safe distance away from the demon castle and set up a single tent in the center of the large field they were standing in. They had sent out a pair of messengers to give a response to the demon lord, telling him that they would accept the offer for a conversation.
And although James still didn’t know exactly why his father had accepted the offer, he was finally able to understand what the reason was when he saw five figures coming toward the tent from the distance.
“Rachael…”
There were three griffons with a female demon flying beside the head griffon. Two of the griffons carried a person each, but the third griffon carried a large pale-skinned man who possessed an aura unlike anything James had ever seen in his life before, and in front of that man was Rachael, the one-winged angel.
So this was why his father accepted the conversation. The demon lord must’ve promised to bring Rachael along to the meeting.
And since it was the demon lord that sent the letter, that meant that the man holding onto Rachael was him. The six hundredth and sixty-sixth demon lord.
Duke Grant had a hard look on his face as he watched the five figures land in front of them. His eyes moved towards Rachael immediately as he tried to see if there were any injuries or scars on her body, but from what he could see, she hadn’t been touched at all.
Once they landed, Rachael tried to move towards her father, but one look from the demon lord was enough to stop her in her tracks as she bowed her head and stayed beside him.
“Duke Grant, thank you for accepting my request.”
Duke Grant clicked his tongue in annoyance before he turned around and started to walk into the tent.
“Let’s get this over with.”
They all entered the tent together, and Mark saw that there was a long rectangular table set in the center of the room with chairs on either side of it. Duke Grant, James, and some other high-ranking members of the Angel army sat on one side, and Mark and the other demons sat opposite them on the other side. Arit opted to stand behind Mark’s right side, keeping her senses sharp for any movement from the Angels, and Rachael was forced to stand as well.
Duke Grant glanced towards Arit for a moment, narrowing his eyes as Arit gave him a glare before looking away. The Duke did not recognize her from any of the previous battles either, but he could tell she was close to the demon lord from how protective she was of him.
“I didn’t think you would bother to accept the letter from my messenger. For a moment, I thought you would just fire at your own people and begin the war.”
Mark was the first person to speak up. His face was set in a neutral mask, but Duke Grant could tell that Mark was making a joke.
Duke Grant sneered at Mark.
“Don’t speak to me like we are anything but enemies. I am not like you demons that would even sacrifice your own blood for the sake of conquest. I care about my people. And if not for you using my daughter as a bargaining chip, this meeting would have never happened, so you better watch the way you talk to me.”
Riger spat something foul to the side in annoyance, causing everyone to turn to him as he scoffed and sat back in his seat. Mark was actually surprised that Riger did not leave back to the demon castle after everything that happened yesterday, but Hunn assured Mark that he spoke to Riger and convinced him to at least see how things played out before coming to a decision. That was the only reason why Riger was here.
Riger felt like lashing out at the Angels for their pompous attitude, but he held himself back with a lot of effort.
Duke Grant glared at Riger.
“Do you have something to say to me, demon?”
Riger glared right back.
“There was just something in my throat. Don’t tell me you birds can’t handle a bit of spit.”

“I think we should get back on track here.”
Mark spoke up again, drawing Duke Grant’s attention back to him before he continued.
“I’m not going to beat around the bush. If our armies fight right now, then you will all die.”
It was like Mark just flipped a fucking switch in the Angel’s head once those words left his mouth, and the roar of anger from the Angels echoed in the tent! They all had furious looks as they decided they were not going to sit there and take such an insult from him! An angel sitting at the side seemed to be a lot more confrontational than the others, and a mad yell was the only thing that alerted Mark to a light arrow that was shot straight at him!
Mark raised his hand, and the arrow slammed into it before dissipating into nothing!
BAM!
Arit was immediately on the Angel, trapping him on the ground with her nails poised at his neck! She had moved so fast that the other Angels didn’t even see her, and she glared at them in anger as she started to draw blood from the Angel under her.
“Arit, that’s enough. Let him go.”
Mark spoke up before Arit could kill the man, and Arit glared at the man for a few seconds before she finally let him go and stood up. Mark glared at the Angels in front of him before he tapped his finger on the table and started to talk.
“You may argue as much as you want to, but the facts don’t lie. I’m sure you’ve all heard about what happened here. I took this castle on my own without any help from the other demons. None of the Angels stood a chance against me, just like none of you do. If we fight here, you might overpower my soldiers with your sheer numbers, but you will never overpower me. I will tear through your forces like a wrecking ball, and none of you will survive the onslaught.”
The Angels were getting more and more agitated the longer Mark spoke, and Mark could sense their desire to attack him growing.
