Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 623
Chapter 623: James Grant
“They’re probably going to wait until the fight is over and their champion wins. If that happens, they’ll charge this castle and kill all the demons without giving them a chance to retreat. That is probably what they are planning.”
Mark was in his bedroom fixing up his gauntlet while talking to Arit. Arit was sitting on the edge of the bed with her legs crossed, and she couldn’t stop the scoff that came out from her mouth once she heard Mark’s prediction for how the angels would go about this fight.
The angels were going to try and kill Mark so that they would have less of an issue eliminating the rest of the army? Arit had never heard something so absurd.
Right now, Arit was not even worried about Mark at all. Usually, whenever Mark was going into a battle, Arit would feel this unease in her heart and worry that Mark would get injured or killed by the enemy. But Arit didn’t feel any of that right now. She just felt at ease because she knew Mark was going to win.
“But are you sure the angels would keep their side of the bargain? They might’ve agreed to send the letter, but nothing’s stopping them from just starting the war once they lose the one-on-one battle.”
Arit voiced her concerns, and Mark nodded. Mark knew that this was a possibility, and he also had the same worry. Mark wanted to get a chance to talk to the King, and he knew that it would be impossible to fight his way to the capital, so having the duke send that message was literally the only way for him to get a chance. If the duke ignored the agreement and tried to attack even after Mark won, then Mark would just have to use brute force to make him agree.
“I still have his daughter in the dungeons, and by the time this battle is done, I’ll have his son as well. If that doesn’t motivate him to do what is necessary, I don’t know what will. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
Arit nodded and stood up once she saw that Mark was ready. She came closer and helped Mark fix up the leather straps of the black chest plate armor that he was wearing. Arit was still wearing the Armor of Ares, so Mark was using the regular armor that the army had. It wasn’t that strong, but Mark knew that it was better than nothing. The armor was made from a strong metal that could withstand one or two punches from an A-rank, but that was about it.
Mark leaned down and gave Arit a quick kiss once she was finished before he turned to start leaving the room.

The battlefield that was chosen for the one-on-one fight was at the center of a wide field, a safe distance away from both the angel and demon army. There was more than enough space around to allow both combatants to go all out right from the start, and they were far enough from both the angel and demon armies so that neither side could interfere in the battle prematurely.
On one side, Mark walked toward the field with Hunn, Riger, and Arit behind him. The demon army were all watching the battle from the Myriad Castle, and even though they were aware of the stakes of the fight, the army was still in battle-ready formation so that they wouldn’t be surprised by any surprise attacks.
Meanwhile, James appeared from the other end of the field with his father and two other high-ranking angels behind him. James had opted to wear a full set of armor that only allowed a little room at the back for his wings to move freely. He had a sword attached to his left hip, and in his right hand, James carried a long spear that glowed with magic. The spear was crafted by carving a mana stone into a sharp point, so it had the ability to absorb and retain spells from its wielder before releasing the spells once the wielder wanted it to.
In the face of the heavily armored James, it almost looked like Mark was looking down on the angels with how he appeared so nonchalantly without much armor. Mark was only wearing a pair of black cargo pants, a sleeveless shirt and armor that showed off his impressive biceps. And on his hands, he had his gauntlets.
Once James saw Mark’s attire, he narrowed his eyes in irritation before reaching up and taking off the helmet he wore.
“You don’t have to do that for my sake. I prefer fighting like this.”
Mark saw what James was doing, and he spoke up to tell James not to bother. Did James feel like Mark was looking down on him? He really shouldn’t make things any harder for himself by getting rid of his armor.
James ignored Mark’s words and handed the helmet over to one of the angels at the side before walking forward without it. Mark also walked forward, and they met at the center of the field.
“We’ll go until the other person can no longer move or when they surrender.”
Mark gave the conditions for victory, and James said nothing. Duke Grant scoffed from behind them and just nodded when Mark turned to look at him. The angels were planning to kill the demon lord here, so those rules didn’t matter to them. It’s not like the demon lord could come back from the dead and complain that they didn’t follow the rules.
Once everyone was in agreement on the rules, both combatants went silent as they sized each other up. The tension in the field began to rise steadily as they released their auras, and all the spectators there couldn’t help but be surprised by the sheer amount of power being released! James’ grip on his spear tightened until he could feel his knuckles creak, and then he blasted off the ground!
Boom!
Mark turned to the side and dodged a thrust that was aimed for his neck, and a large gust of wind blew past and shot into the distance! Mark narrowed his eyes and lashed out with a kick!
Boom!
James brought up the spear quickly enough to tank the hit, but he was still sent flying back from the blow! Mark shot off the ground after him, and James opened his wings wide to stop himself from flying back before shooting towards Mark as well! James pulled the spear back for a thrust, but he was stunned when he felt something wrap around his hand and prevent him from moving it!
‘Is that a chain!?’
James yelled in his head, but he had to focus again as he saw Mark’s punch heading straight for his head! James tucked his wings in and fell to the ground to avoid the blow, and he felt his eyes widen as the blow sent a shockwave shooting across the horizon!
KA-BOOM!
He had to avoid getting hit by that no matter what!
James twirled the spear in his hand, turned around, and stabbed the spear into the ground sharply, and Mark was shocked when he tried to pull the Fang back and realized that he couldn’t!

‘He managed to stab into one of the links in the Fang?’
Mark appeared at James’ side at the next moment with his leg pulled back for a kick, and James put his arm up and allowed his armor to receive the blow as he was thrown back across the field!
BOOM!
Mark grabbed the spear, and he felt a stinging sensation in his hand as the spear’s defenses rejected him, but he ignored that and pulled it out from the ground before breaking the spear over his knee! Mark pulled the half-spear back and shot the head towards James like a javelin!
Boom!
