Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 631
Chapter 631: Mental State
Mark and Arit were currently inside one of the Angel strongholds west of the Angel continent. The stronghold had been occupied by more than fifty angel soldiers, as well as a few servants and civilians, but Mark easily killed all of the angel soldiers and gave the civilians a chance to either fight him or run away. All the civilians escaped into the night, and Mark took over the stronghold.
“I didn’t think things would get out of hand so quickly. Are you sure this is the right way to handle things, Mark? It might backfire and make both sides hate each other even more.”
Arit walked out from the bathroom in the room they were sharing and spoke to Mark while drying her hair. There was an injury on Arit’s right hip from when Mildred had attacked her earlier and when Arit saw it in the mirror, she swore that Mildred would pay for it. The wound was already healing due to Arit’s high constitution as part Anima, but it was her pride that was more hurt.
Mark hummed from his place at the table. Mark had a map laid out in front of him, and he was going through it studiously with a frown on his face. Arit noticed Mark’s tensed shoulders and sighed before walking over and draping herself over him while putting her chin on his shoulder. Arit wrapped her hands around his chest and asked what he was up to.
Mark spoke up absentmindedly.
“I’m noting the important strongholds in the angels’ army. The map that had these is back at the Myriad Castle, but I don’t want us going back there for now.”
Arit was silent for a moment as she just watched Mark, but after a while, she just had to ask.
“What do you plan to do now, Mark? You’re an enemy to both sides.”
Mark’s frown deepened before he nodded.
“I know. I realized something during that meeting earlier. These idiots aren’t ever going to stop fighting. They are so far gone in this war that they don’t see their own faults anymore. They only see what the enemy has done to them, and they’ve decided that they won’t settle for anything less than either surrender or victory. So, since they are so determined to continue fighting, I’ll give them something to fight against together.”
Arit’s hand around Mark’s chest tightened as she realized what Mark was getting at. Arit spoke in disbelief.
“You want to become the enemy to both sides? You’re trying to present yourself as a bigger evil so that both the angels and demons will unite against you? Are you sure that would work?”
Mark finished noting the various strongholds that he needed to and turned away from the map, looking out the window in front of him.
“It has to work. It’s the only way I can think of right now.”
Arit could sense the tiredness in Mark’s tone from the way he spoke, and she knew that he was already annoyed by the characters of both the angels and demons. Mark had practically given them a chance for peace on a golden platter, and both races had spat on it at the same time and destroyed all of Mark’s efforts. Arit could understand his frustrations.
Arit sighed against Mark’s neck before she spoke up.
“Mark, you said this wasn’t the first trial you went on. How were the other trials? Were the people there as difficult as the ones here?”
Mark frowned and shook his head before telling Arit that the trials from the gods were all different. The last trial that he went on was a free-for-all battle that put him up against some of the most powerful humans throughout history. He had Luna with him there, but they didn’t have to juggle anything that was too political or diplomatic.
Arit raised a brow in surprise.
“Luna was with you?”
Mark nodded as he leaned back into her breasts.
“Yeah, that was when I didn’t know anything about her. She was basically a stranger, but the god handling the game summoned her as my partner in the game, and we both had to fight against other master-servant pairs. I only had to fight in that one, and I hoped this game would be the same. But it’s obvious that Freya had other plans.”
Arit was immediately able to put the pieces of many of Mark and Luna’s interactions together once she heard that Mark had been in one of these trials with Luna. Arit remembered that there was a time when Mark and Luna were not even acquaintances. They would meet on the street, and Mark wouldn’t bother to even give her a glance. But after a period of time, Luna suddenly became very fixated on Mark. Mark was still acting normally around Luna, but Arit felt like Luna was challenging her any time they met. Almost like Luna had fallen in love with Mark overnight!
The one moment that stuck out to Arit the most was when Luna came to Nature Academy as one of the superhumans protecting them after Arit had killed Francis and Esmeralda. The interactions Luna and Arit had in that hallway told Arit that Luna was not there just for the sake of that investigation. It was too obvious that Luna was trying to compete with Arit for something.
Arit now knew that Luna had fallen in love with Mark during that trial. Did Mark also know that Luna fell in love with him back then? It was likely.
Arit was sure that Mark wasn’t blind to the way women reacted around him. He knows the sort of effect he has on a lot of women, but he just had a lot of self-control, so it wasn’t easy for him to respond to what they did around him.
Mark’s self-control must’ve gotten on Luna’s nerves for so long that it eventually led to Luna confessing to Mark after that fight they had against the two Calamity-class anima.
It was like all the pieces had finally fallen into place for Arit, and she just sighed and shook her head as she forgot about all that. It was in the past, so it wasn’t important.
Arit hugged Mark tighter and slowly pulled him back from the table where he had been looking through the map, and Mark easily allowed her to take him away as she spoke up.
“You’ll give yourself a headache if you think about these people too much. We can come up with a plan after we get some rest. Come on.”

Arit knew that Mark was mentally exhausted, so it was better for him to first rest so that he could think about what he would do next with a clear mind. Arit wasn’t going to be able to help Mark a lot with coming up with a strategic plan of action, but that doesn’t mean she can’t give him some peace of mind in the middle of all the madness that has been going on around him. It was the best thing Arit could do for him.
Arit slowly allowed her towel to fall off her body and she smiled confidently as Mark’s intense gaze immediately traveled down to her chest and hips. Arit might not be able to help with strategy, but she would do what she could for Mark’s mental state.
