Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 647
Chapter 647: Pain In The Ass
“They’re beautiful, are they not? The trees, flowers, and animals. This is my personal garden. It is the one place I find solace in, away from the stress of godhood and queenship. There is nothing more soothing than nature itself.”
Mark nodded but said nothing, and Freya’s smile only widened.
“You know I haven’t allowed many mortals into this domain of mine, and of those I have allowed in, even fewer are men. I can count the number of men who have laid eyes on this garden on one hand, with fingers left over. You should be thankful.”
“I am. I don’t appreciate nature as much as my girls, but I feel like this should be one of the more beautiful gardens in existence.”
Freya smiled proudly at the compliment and waved Mark away with a shy smile.
“Oh, you smooth talker, you. Thank you very much. I put a lot of work into it, so it feels nice to see someone appreciate my garden.”
Freya suddenly stopped talking and tilted her head to one side as if she were listening to something. Mark raised an eyebrow as he saw her smile before she laughed. What the hell was going on?
Freya turned to Mark and waved her hand, and Mark reached out to catch a book and pen that appeared over his hand.
“If you don’t mind, would you sign that? My littlest one, Hylga, has wanted your ‘autograph’ for quite some time now. ”
Freya said the word “autograph” like it was something foreign that she had no idea about, but Mark just nodded in understanding as he opened the book. Mark’s brow rose in surprise once he saw that the book was actually a scrapbook with many of his pictures and the anima that he had killed inside it. Mark looked toward Freya and asked her how the hell they got all these, and Freya just shrugged. Freya had no idea how Hylga got all the pictures, and she didn’t mind because it made Hylga happy, and that made Freya happy too.
Mark accepted that as enough of an explanation and signed the book on an empty page before handing it back to Freya. The book vanished from Freya’s hands, and Mark heard a cute voice whisper, “Thank you” in his ear. He grinned and waved a little to tell Hylga that it was fine.
“Now then, since that’s finished with, would you like to take a small tour around the garden? I would love to show you the different flowers and organisms. I even created a few new species that would help the flowers grow better and bigger.”
Mark’s smile became a bit strained.
“Thanks, but it’s like I said, I don’t appreciate nature as much as my girls. Just looking from here is fine.”
“Aww.”
Freya frowned at what Mark said and pouted in disappointment. Mark never thought the day would come when he would call a goddess cute, but Mark couldn’t think of any other way to describe her reaction at that moment. It was most certainly cute.
Freya had hoped that Mark would want to spend some time with her, even if it was just talking about random nonsense. It had been centuries since Freya had wanted to talk to him. She had anticipated this moment all this time, and now that they were finally face to face, Mark seemed so distant and guarded that it made her feel bad.
Freya sighed and spoke.
“I hoped you would indulge me for a few moments, especially after I went through all the trouble of allowing you into my garden. But I suppose that is that. I’ve been looking forward to speaking to you for a long time now, child. Your actions on Earth and your fight against the monsters that plague your land have been very entertaining.”
Freya gave Mark a knowing smile as she said this, and Mark just hummed in response. Mark already knew that the gods were always watching him, so he wasn’t surprised by Freya’s words. But there was something Mark wanted to know.
“Do you gods watch all the champions on Earth like you watch me?”
Freya put a hand up to her chin and looked out at the garden in a thinking pose while talking.
“Well, most of the gods only watch their own champions from time to time. But you, you’re special, Mark Vanitas. I don’t think there’s a single god in the cosmos that isn’t keeping their eye on you in one way or another.”
Mark turned to Freya with a curious look on his face.
“Why? I don’t think I’ve ever done anything to make myself that famous with the gods. Why are the gods so interested in me?”
Freya’s finger went to her lips in a shushing motion, and she tried to hide a smile as she spoke.
“Now that, I can’t say just yet, but I think you should keep in mind that every planet possesses a single god overseeing their growth and survival. Most gods try their best to protect and improve their own planet. The time before a god ruling over a planet gains consciousness is always very turbulent for that planet, and all the gods are always interested in it. This is normal.”
Before a god gains consciousness?
Mark frowned in confusion as he wondered what Freya was getting at. What god was about to gain consciousness, and why was she talking like the gods were watching Earth for a different reason than what was happening with the humans and anima?
At this thought, Mark’s mind went back to the scroll that he had gotten after killing the Armageddon and the strange message that was written on it.

[The coming fight is a fight to prove your relevance.]
Mark decided that if he was ever going to get an explanation for what that meant, he had to take any opportunity he had to ask a god about it. And since he was here with Freya, he might as well ask her.
Mark spoke up calmly.
“There was something I heard from Sozin a while ago. A message about the fight between the humans and the anima. He called it the secret of the gods and told me that the fight was no longer going to be for survival but for relevance. What does that mean?”
Freya’s face seemed to darken the moment she heard Mark say those words, and she sighed tiredly as she finally stood from the grass and dusted her long white gown. She stood a full head shorter than Mark and had to look up at him to keep their eyes locked.
Freya put a hand on Mark’s chest, and Mark had to fight the urge to tell her to get her hands off him. He still wasn’t comfortable with random people touching him. Freya patted his chest twice before she smiled and spoke up.
“I don’t mean to be rude, but your patron god is the bane of the existence of all the other gods, an annoyance unlike any other. If I were to describe it using modern terms, then I could say that he is a pain in all our asses.”
