Chapter 654: The Bridge Linking Both Worlds
“Do you want to know why I called you a pure soul even after all the things you’ve done to the people of your world? It is because of the intentions you had even while doing them. I’ve been watching you a lot over the past few years. Your proximity to Mark Vanitas and his love for you has marveled me, and I couldn’t help but be curious as to why he felt such devotion to you. And after seeing the things you went through and your actions toward him, I could finally understand what it is that drew him to you so fiercely. You are someone who would sacrifice everything for the sake of the one that you love, and no one capable of such things can be seen as anything but pure in my eyes.”

Arit looked up at Freya with undeniable shock in her eyes. Arit wanted to deny Freya’s words once more, she wanted to say that she was not pure and she didn’t deserve all that praise, but the way Freya said it and the look of pure love and acceptance in Freya’s eyes told Arit that there wasn’t a shred of lie in Freya’s words. Freya really meant everything that she said.

Arit could only reply in one way.

“Thank you, Freya.”

Freya gave Arit another motherly smile. Freya looked off to the side curiously, and her brow suddenly furrowed as she felt something on the horizon. The pressure in the void increased for a moment, and Freya had to push her celestial powers out from her body in a small wave to reduce the pressure back to normal so that it wouldn’t affect Arit.

Arit could feel the ground under her feet trembling from the pressure all around her, and it wasn’t until a few seconds later that she finally felt the void calming down. Freya turned to Arit and smiled again.

“Sorry about that. A few gods were not happy about my actions towards Mark Vanitas, so I have to send you back before they get too vocal. As for the gift that I have decided to grant you, it is something simple that I hope you will make the most of. The humans and anima are moving into a different phase of their joined existence, and as I have granted Mark Vanitas the gift he would need to unite all of Gaia under one banner, I wish for you to be the lynchpin that would serve as his aid. I want you to help him understand that not all anima-kind need to be his enemy. Mark is strong-willed and fierce, so you need to keep him grounded and serve as the voice for those who cannot speak up due to the fear of his power.

“The pair of you have made something great with your union. One is the KING of humans and the other is the QUEEN of anima. It is the job of a QUEEN to bring the suffering of the weak to the ears of the KING. I hope you will remember this in the darkest hours.”

Freya held Arit’s face in her hands and cleaned the tears that had started to fall from Arit’s eyes gently. Arit didn’t even know that she had been crying at all, but just listening to Freya and feeling the amount of trust and responsibility that Freya was putting on her was enough to make Arit emotional. It felt like Arit was talking to her mother again after so many years of not seeing her.

Freya was about to take back her hands, but Arit put her own hands over Freya’s hands and held them to her cheek so that she could feel the warmth of a mother for a little longer, and a choked sob came out from her. Freya smiled and hugged Arit kindly as Freya spoke up in a calm voice.

“I know how much you have missed your mother, child. And I can assure you that if she saw you now, she would be very proud of you. That time is not yet at hand, but when the time comes for you to become one yourself, I know you will make a wonderful mother.”

Arit nodded into Freya’s chest, and she was only able to give a short ‘Thank you’ before she vanished from the void.

Luna was only able to look on in surprise as Arit narrated most of what had happened to Luna and Mark. Arit told them that the gift Freya gave to her was still a little unclear to her, but Arit could tell that it would allow her to communicate with most of the anima and understand them.

Freya said that the power was something similar to what Mark had gotten from her, and when Arit asked Mark what his reward was, Mark told them that it was called the [Symbol of Gaia]. It would allow him to communicate with animals and plants in nature.

Mark finally understood what Freya was saying when she mentioned that there were many similarities between the anima and humans. Was Freya trying to make him become more empathetic towards the anima by giving Arit this ability?

Mark thought about this for a sometime before he shook his head. It really didn’t matter to him in the long run. Mark didn’t care about the responsibilities placed on him and Arit and he didn’t care if the gods were trying to make this into some sick twisted game of survival where the winner takes control over everything. The only thing that mattered to Mark was dealing with anything that threatened his family. If it was humans, then Mark would kill them, and if it was anima, then Mark would kill them too.

And if Mark just so happened to save the world while trying to protect his family, then that was fine too.

“There is going to be a memorial in a few weeks.”

Two days later, Luna, Mark, and Arit were inside a limo going towards the center of City S when Luna spoke up. Mark and Arit were on their way to Pat’s hideout to meet up with the siblings. Mark wanted to talk to Pat, and since Jeanne was also going to be there, Mark saw this as an opportunity for Jeanne to have a look at Arit.

And since Luna was heading towards her agency building to talk with some of her vice-captains, she offered to give them a ride into the city.

It was Luna who had spoken up about the memorial, and Mark hummed curiously as he heard what she said. Luna heard about the memorial a few days ago from one of the high-ranking members of the government. Apparently, the government was going to use the memorial as a means of both honoring those who had died during the fight as well as to raise funds to support those who were seriously affected by the damages done by the anima.

There were also rumors that the government was just using this as an avenue to speak to some of the more powerful superhumans in a relaxed setting and one of the names that had come up a lot in the small government circle was Mark Vantias. They really wanted Mark to come to the memorial because they wanted to finally use this opportunity to speak to him both about his guild as well as his plans moving forward.

Mark had already guessed that the government would be doing this largely because they wanted to have a talk with him, so once he heard what they were planning, he just chuckled as he realized that the government would never change. They would even use the deaths of their own citizens as a political ploy.

“Do you want to go?”

Arit asked Mark this question as she reached towards the fridge in the limo for a bottle of water.
