Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 659
Chapter 659: Time Apart
“She’ll have to stay with me for about two days so I can monitor how things progress. But I’m going to be working at the city S hospital that was set up for those rescued from the anima attacks, so she won’t be able to go home with you for those days. In my opinion, it’s better this way. You two having sex would just complicate things right now, so it’s better if you stay as far away from each other as possible.”
Mark just chuckled at this before he turned back to Arit and asked her if she was okay going with Jeanne.
Mark was also going to be busy over the next few days with the processes detailing the merge between his and Luna’s guilds, so it might be better if Arit was also busy in that time. And since their school wasn’t going to be opening for a long time, this would be a good chance for Arit to gain some experience in the field she eventually wanted to get involved in. Mark knew that Arit really wanted to learn more about Jeanne’s work, so he was sure that she would jump on the opportunity.
Arit was a little hesitant to speak her mind at first, but Mark could see on her face that she really wanted this. It wasn’t just because of the pregnancy, but instead, it was because of what she could learn from being with Jeanne. As someone who wanted to do exactly what Jeanne was involved in doing, Arit had a chance to experience Jeanne working firsthand and see how her life might be in the future. This was something that Arit didn’t want to pass up no matter what. But Arit was also worried about Mark.
Arit knew that Mark didn’t need someone to babysit him since he was a grown man, but she just felt responsible for taking care of his daily needs. She had been doing it for close to two years now, so she was wondering if it would be okay for her to leave him on his own.
But after a few seconds, Arit finally spoke up and said that she would like to go. Arit knew that she and Mark weren’t always going to be able to spend all their time together in the future like they were doing now, so she was going to have to learn to tolerate the distance a little more.
‘No! I don’t want to be separated from the KING! I don’t care about your stupid dreams!’
‘Shut up, QUEEN! You’re not going to ruin this for me! This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I’m going to take it!’
‘You shut up! Don’t you love the KING anymore!? You’re going to leave him in the hands of that silver-haired woman!? We need to be there to make sure she doesn’t do anything stupid!’
‘No, we don’t. I trust Luna.’
‘You fool!’
Arit felt anger rising from her chest as she heard the QUEEN speaking against Luna, and she pushed the voice to the back of her head and ignored it from that moment forward as she spoke up. Arit knew that she could trust Luna! Even if the QUEEN didn’t trust her, Arit was not going to be controlled by the voice in her head!
“I want to go with Jeanne. I don’t think I’ll have another chance to see something like this since Jeanne is always so busy, so it’ll be good for me. Just make sure you get enough rest and eat the leftovers I made in the fridge. And make sure Talia goes to sleep before ten, she likes staying awake late, so you have to make sure you’re stern with her. And – ”
“Arit. Stop.”
Mark suddenly interrupted Arit’s rant with a smile. He brought Arit in for a hug before kissing her and telling her that he would take care of everything.
“I’ll be at Luna’s mansion, and you know she has all those servants to do most of the work. I’ll put Talia to bed, and I’ll eat all the leftovers. We’ll be fine.”
Arit felt a little bit of relief as she saw the acceptance in Mark’s eyes, and she hugged him and muttered an emotional thank you.
Mark patted her back and waited for her to finally calm down before he then turned to Jeanne with a smile.
“I don’t know if Pat already told you this, but you’re always welcome to join my guild if you want to. I know you like the independence that being without a guild grants you, but I’m sure it’s hell to go around on your own funds and help out in all those countries without some sort of backing. I’ll be happy to give you that backing.”
Jeanne was surprised when Mark said this, and her eyes narrowed into a glare as she saw Pat coming out from the other room while biting into a burger! This idiot never told her anything about this! They’ve been talking about the Vanguard guild for months now, and Pat never even mentioned once that Mark wanted her to join the guild!
Once Pat saw Jeanne’s glare, Pat just turned back around and went right back into the room he had been walking out of. Pat didn’t know what it was that was making Jeanne so pissed, but he had no intention of finding out! Pat hadn’t told Jeanne about joining the guild because he really didn’t want her to be in it. Pat just didn’t think he could survive his sister’s antics if they were both part of the same group and had to see each other even more than they already were! Jeanne was enough of a pain in the ass when they only saw each other once a month or so, seeing her every week, or even worse every day, would end him!
Jeanne clicked her tongue and decided that she would deal with her idiot brother later!
Jeanne turned back to Mark and saw that he was still waiting for her answer. Mark was right about her needing those funds. Ever since the NSA went under and Jeanne became an independent superhuman again, it had been a bit difficult for her to continue her work the way she had been doing before. Even though Jeanne was a superhuman, she wasn’t like Mark or Luna, who were able to fight against giant monstrosities and gain compensation from selling the bodies of the anima to weapon makers. Jeanne was a doctor, and her only talent was her ability to heal.
Jeanne could easily make money from making her patients pay for their services, but most of the patients she helps out are weaker superhumans who were caught up in dangerous situations or humans who didn’t have a chance to escape before they were attacked by anima. They didn’t always have the money to pay for their treatment, and Jeanne was not going to force anyone to pay for something that she could do without any effort at all.
Besides, Jeanne was taking the life force of her patients to heal them. As far as she was concerned, that was enough payment as it was.
