Chapter 665: The Voice of The Beast
“H-Hey! Is anyone there!? Come out where I can see you, you coward!”

One of the men shouted in fright as he looked around him, and the man suddenly froze like a deer in the middle of a busy street as he saw something huge lean out from the darkness at the end of the alleyway. It was tall, over three meters in height, and when it leaned over, the only thing that the man could make out was it’s large red eyes staring at them with something like curiosity.

The creature growled somewhere deep in its throat, and all three men stumbled backward as one and fell to their asses as they felt true primal fear grip their hearts. There was something almost childlike about the way the creature looked at them. It made them feel like rats that had been cornered by a young cat that had never seen a rat in its life. The cat knew that it would eat them, but first, it wanted to know why the rats seemed so delicious to it.

“W-Wait…! Wait! Is that an anima!? It’s an anima! Help! Help!”

The man who was wearing the apron started to shout at the top of his lungs as he emptied his bladder once he knew what the creature was, but a hand shot out from the darkness and grabbed his head, and a loud ‘pop!’ echoed through the alleyway as blood splattered to the ground! The other two men screamed like banshees and tried to run once they saw their friend getting killed so easily, but the creature wasted no time as it also killed them.

Once it was done, the creature sat on the ground in front of their bodies and tore out the hand of one of the men, raised it to its mouth, and started to eat it calmly.

The little girl that had been holding the bread could feel her heart beating against her ribcage like a fucking drum. She had pressed herself against the wall once she heard the men shout that there was an anima, and no matter how much she tried to get feeling in her legs, she couldn’t even move! In her hands, she still gripped the bread that she had stolen, but she didn’t even know that she was holding it as her eyes focused on the monster in front of her. The anima.

It had green skin like moss, with muscles that rippled and stretched beneath its skin like any other human. It was naked, but she couldn’t see any genitalia on its body, and when it raised its hand in the air to bring an eyeball to its mouth, she saw that its hands and feet were webbed like a frog’s! Her harsh breathing shuddered out from her nose, and she pressed herself tighter against the wall as she prayed to whatever god was out there to help her! She didn’t want to die! She didn’t want to die!

“Hnngggg~”

The monster suddenly stopped what it was doing as it heard her harsh breath and turned to her, and the girl felt tears leaking from her eyes as its deep red eyes stared into her soul.

“Please. Please, God. Please. I’m begging you.”

The girl started to beg for her life as she tried to shuffle back into the wall even more, but there was nowhere to go, and she could only close her eyes and cry even more as the monster moved towards her curiously. The monster looked down at her hand and saw what she was gripping before it looked up at her and tilted its head to one side. It brought a hand up to its throat, and the girl flinched like she was going to be slapped. But she was shocked when she heard something unbelievable.

“Please… God…”

Did the monster just speak Russian!?

The girl would have probably fainted on the spot if she wasn’t so shocked! The girl looked at the monster with wide, disbelieving eyes, and the monster tilted its head to the other side with its hand still on its throat.

“Please. God. Anima. Name?”

The girl’s breathing was slowly starting to even out as she heard it talking, and she released another deep breath. The monster spoke again.

“Name?”

Name? It wanted her name. The girl swallowed and stammered out.

“E-E-Eva. M-My name is Eva.”

The monster grumbled again and repeated her words.

“My name is Eva. Name?”

This time, the monster pointed at itself, and the girl shook her head to tell it that she didn’t know what its name was. The monster didn’t understand, and the girl finally decided that it was asking her for suggestions. It wanted her to give it a name?

“A-Anima?”

The girl supplied helplessly, and the monster grumbled again as it repeated ‘Name’ a second time. This time, the girl shook her head and stammered out that she really did not know, and the monster grumbled and put a finger on her forehead. That one movement was enough to make her heart rate triple in intensity, but then she was shocked as the monster spoke again.

“You, human. Me, anima. Find name.”

It wanted her to help it find its name?

No, it was telling her that she would help it find its name.

Eva did not know what it was that gave her strength at that moment, but when the monster looked down at her from its imposing height while waiting for her to get up, she was able to finally get some feeling in her legs. She slowly sat up from the ground and then stood up. Eva swallowed thickly, and the monster said nothing as it turned and started to move into the darkness of the alleyway.

Eva looked around her once more and stared at the mass of mutilated bodies that once belonged to her attackers for a few seconds as she hesitated, but once Eva heard a low growl coming from within the darkness, she found her footing more firmly and followed after the monster into the darkness.

Humans are strange creatures.

This thought crossed through the mind of the beast as it watched the little girl in front of it curiously. The beast did not know what it was, and it had no recollection of how it came to be. It had been on a journey for the past few days to try and find out just what it was, but after searching for so long and meeting hundreds of the species known as ‘humans’, it could only conclude that humans were strange creatures.

The first time the beast met humans, they had been soldiers in the Russian army who were patrolling the borders close to the ocean. The beast had been curious about them, and it felt a strange urge to study them and understand what they were, but once the ‘humans’ laid eyes on it, they began to attack the beast. Killing them was not too difficult. They were weak, and when the beast perceived their scent, it realized that they smelled like food. They were delicious.

The next time it met humans was in a secluded village off the coast of Russia.
