Chapter 672: Would You Spare A Moment?
“To all of those watching at home, Mark Vanitas’ actions at this moment have all but proven that he is in a relationship with not only his high school sweetheart, Miss Arit Clayborn, but also his fellow undefined superhuman, Madam Luna!”
“Mr. Vanitas! Please, a word! How are you managing a relationship with two women at once?”
“Arit Clayborn! How do you feel about Mr. Vanitas’ relationship with Madam Luna!? Does it not affect you at all?”
“Please, Arit Clayborn! I have a question! Arit Clayborn, just a moment!”
“Arit! Can I ask you a few questions regarding your abilities? People are saying it’s similar to an animal’s transformation! Can I get a few words from you to answer these accusations?”
Mark turned to look at Arit beside him when he felt her grab his arm with her free one and press her body against his own. Arit didn’t look uncomfortable in what she was wearing, since it was very modest, but the amount of attention she was getting from the reporters asking her questions and the many pictures being taken was enough to make her very self-conscious. Mark calmly patted Arit on the arm holding his own and gave her a gentle smile before telling her to relax. There was nothing anyone here could do to her, and they could only shout out questions from a distance.
“Just smile, wave, and treat them like a part of the background, and they’ll eventually disappear. You’ll get used to it, I promise.”
Mark gave Arit another pat on her hand as he said this. Mark knew that this was not Arit’s scene and she wasn’t used to being around this many cameras and receiving this much attention. But Mark didn’t feel like leaving Arit behind while coming, so he made sure to convince her to come along with him. But as a high school girl, Arit was a little out of her depth, and it would take some time for her to get used to all of this.
Arit felt an amused smile spreading on her face as she heard Mark’s instructions. Mark was always finding a way to make things that seemed to be serious into something very simple and basic, and it gave Arit a sense of peace that she couldn’t describe. Arit felt her confidence gaining a boost as she slowly straightened back up and tried her best to follow Mark confidently up the stairs.
Arit felt Talia squeeze her hand supportively, and Arit looked down to see Talia smiling up at her. Talia could sense the nervousness in Arit and she was trying her best to support her. Arit silently thanked Talia for the support as the three of them continued up to the entrance, but Arit had to stop as someone came to stand in front of them.
Alec Ben had a stoic look on his face as he regarded Mark, and Mark raised a brow at him and asked him what the hell he wanted. Alec Ben shook his head and told Mark that it was nothing serious.
“I just wanted to extend my greetings. We haven’t seen much of each other since the Armageddon attack. I’m disappointed you didn’t come for the broadcast that the president made. She wanted to extend her thanks to you personally.”
Mark scoffed and said that he wasn’t interested.
“If that’s all, then excuse me. I want to get this done with as quickly as possible.”
Mark said this before he started to walk again, but Alec spoke up and stopped Mark for a second time.
“After the charity dinner, would you do me the honor of a meeting? The president and some military generals would like to meet with you.”
“You’re still doing the government’s dirty work even on a day like today, Ben?”
Luna’s voice suddenly came from behind Arit, and Arit turned around and smiled at the amused look on Luna’s face. Luna gave Alec a look when Alec frowned at her, and she took Talia’s hand when Talia offered it to her. Alec frowned in irritation before turning back to Mark and spoke up again.
“It’ll only be a few minutes. Would you meet with them?”
Mark hummed as he thought about it for a few seconds before he shrugged and continued walking up the stairs while talking.
“We’ll see how things go. Try to relax a little, Alec, it’s a memorial.”
Mark’s words were calm and didn’t show any emotion at all, but it was obvious that he wasn’t happy that they were trying to discuss politics and business at an event like this. Mark’s answer didn’t assure Alec of anything, but from the way Mark thought about it for a few seconds, anyone who knew him would be able to tell that he had actually considered it and there was a high chance he would honor the invitation just so that he could hear what they had to say.
But Alec didn’t know this, and he just nodded and left with the other members of the Alpha Squad while hoping that Mark would show up for the meeting.
At the side, Arit blinked in surprise as she felt a strange force pressing down on her, and she turned her head to the side to look at the person who was responsible for it. Alpha Six was glaring at Arit from a fair distance away, and Arit gave the one-eyed woman a mocking smile and a head nod that only served to piss Alpha Six off even more! Alpa Six took a threatening step towards Arit, but one of the other members of the Alpha Squad spoke up to Alpha Six and told her to come along or they would leave her behind! Alpha Six grit her teeth and turned away in anger to leave!
Luna bumped Arit with her shoulder, and when Arit turned to Luna, Luna told Arit not to antagonize Alpha Six.
“Just ignore her. She can’t do anything but be angry at you, so there’s no need to pay her any attention.”
Luna only said this much as she held her dress up and kept walking with the rest of her family, but Arit just scoffed and said that Alpha Six was definitely going to try something in the future.
“I can tell she really hates me. If she doesn’t try something in the future, then I won’t do anything to her, but once she does anything stupid, then I’ll kill her.”
Luna was already used to Arit’s violent nature when it came down to her enemies, so she wasn’t surprised by Arit’s words. Luna knew that Arit wasn’t joking, but Luan also knew that Arit wouldn’t go out of her way to kill someone without a good reason. If Arit ended up killing Alpha Six, then it would be because Alpha Six did something really stupid.
And besides, Luan also felt some irritation and anger at Alpa Six for what Alpha Six did during their fight with Sasha. What Alpha Six did could have taken Mark away from them forever, so Luna didn’t really care that much about how easily Aait was threatening the life of a government agent. Luna just sighed with a small smile and decided not to pry too much into it.
