Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 676
Chapter 676: Spending Spree
When Arit wanted to say something, Mark just shook his head.
“There’s nothing we can do about it, Arit. We’re not saints, not a single person here is. Yeah, they want to help, but they also want to make sure they reap benefits from it. Developing an investment company that would help you cut out some tax is going to be more beneficial than developing a free clinic that won’t give you any benefit. It’s just how people think. Some of the companies on that list are subsidiaries of the Vanitas Motors Enterprise, and my godfather put them there to attract more funds for the company. That’s the business world.”
Arit squeezed the paper in her hand so tight that it almost ripped to pieces! She couldn’t believe these people were so twisted! Arit just wanted to leave immediately, but Mark put his hand on top of hers and made her stay.
“No, don’t go. Arit, you can’t be blind to the darker side of society. If you’re going to be with me, you need to understand what happens behind closed doors. But that doesn’t mean you need to give up your virtues for the sake of their vices. That’s why I said you can do whatever you want with all the money you have. The people here are spending their own money, so there’s nothing we can do to control how they spend it, but you can help those that really need it by putting the money where you think it should be. Let’s do it together, okay?”
Arit looked up at Mark in surprise as she heard everything he said, and when he finished talking, she looked down at the pamphlet in her hands again and saw that there were various organizations that looked like they really needed the money. Religious organizations, orphanages, hospitals, and clinics. These places had barely gained a million dollars each, but those organizations that were slightly shady had gained tens of millions or even hundreds of millions already. Arit knew that she couldn’t do anything about the way others spent their money, but since she was a part of this world now, she could make a difference in any way she could.
“The next organization seeking funding is the Holy Rose Orphanage in City B that was destroyed by a Calamity Class Anima. Please send in your pledges.”
Matilda read out another organization. This one was one of the orphanages, and only a few people raised their hands to give a helping hand. Mark raised his hand, and an usher came around to collect his pledge, but the usher was surprised when Arit also gave him a slip of paper, and he just nodded and thanked her before going to give it to Matilda.
Matilda was reading out the top three contributions from all of the superhumans, and when she got to the three highest for the orphanage, she was shocked! Matilda looked at Arit for a second and saw the hard look on her face Matilda turned to Mark to see if this was really okay and when she saw Mark nod with a small smile, Matilda read out the three of them.
“We would like to give our most heartfelt thanks to the superhuman Catman Cole for his donation of five hundred thousand dollars, to Mark Vanitas for his donation of one million dollars, and finally to our highest contributor, Arit Clayborne, for her donation of five million dollars!”
Gasps rang out in the entire room as they all turned towards Arit, and Arit turned and gave them all a hard stare right back. Arit was disgusted by the actions of the rich and powerful, and she decided that she was going to use everything she could to help those that they were ignoring. Arit knew that Mark wouldn’t mind her using up the entire fifty million, so she was going to do just that!
Everyone there was stunned that anyone would give five million dollars to a charity organization that they would never get any sort of return from. Orphanages couldn’t bring in any profit, so giving them that kind of money was pointless!
Luna laughed into her hand as she saw what Arit had done. Luan also understood the necessity of business and gaining returns from any form of investment, but even she was a bit annoyed by how people refused to give any significant amount to those who really needed it, and she was happy that Arit was doing what she felt was right.
The event continued like this for a while, and whenever a pure charity organization was called, Arit’s name just kept coming up.
“And to Michael Clinic, our highest contributor, Arit Clayborne with two million dollars.”
“… To Free Soul Community Hospital, our highest contributor, Arit Clayborne with five million dollars.”
“… To Safe Birth Maternity Orphanage, our highest contributor, Arit Clayborne with seven million dollars.”
“… To James Patterson Family Hospital, our highest contributor, Arit Clayborne with five million dollars.”
This kept up for a while, and it wasn’t long before many others started to also put some money into these organizations as well when they saw how tenacious Arit was. Although Arit continued being the highest contributor for the rest of the night in these types of organizations, Tilda noticed that the total sum being given was now a lot higher than before, so she gave Arit a smile of thanks for her help in shifting the consciousness of some of those in the crowd.
After a while, the room finally took a break for refreshments and meals. Luna told Arit to come with her to the bathroom and then whispered something in Mark’s ear before they both left. Mark’s brow rose once he heard what Luna said, and he had to fight to stop the smile from spreading on his face. A few minutes after they both left, Mark stood and left as well, while asking Greg and his wife to please take care of Talia for a while, and they both agreed with smiles as they kept enjoying the high-end dishes being brought out to the tables for them.
Mark made his way through the brightly lit hallways with his hands in his pockets. The Lincon Hall was an exquisitely designed building. The floors were made from a glossy grey tile and there were stone pillars with designs carved into them arranged in a line along both walls. The roof had various paintings and symbols drawn on it and Mark sometimes found himself just staring up at a painting while walking.
But just as he was about to pass by one of the doors, it clicked open, and a slender hand reached out and grabbed him by the tie. Mark’s mouth spread into a smile, and he didn’t resist as Luna pulled him into the ladies restroom.
Click!
“Mmh~!”
Luna locked the door behind her and immediately attacked Mark like a starved animal! Luna pushed him back until he was leaning against one of the sinks in front of the large mirror in the bathroom, and when Mark grabbed her ass and squeezed, she moaned loudly and pulled back while rubbing herself against him.
“That’s not fair.”
Luna’s voice was breathless, and Mark could tell that she was completely lost in her lust.
