Chapter 698: The Vanguard Hospital
Arit wasn’t working this hard in the hospital for anyone to accept her, and she wasn’t working this fucking hard just for some bastards to tell her that she didn’t belong here. Arit had gone through all of the required processes to become an apprentice. She took all the tests, she got all the recommendations, and she even took mandatory classes and wrote exams that were for college students. Arit would admit that she was lucky to have gotten an apprenticeship with Jeanne because of how close they were, but that did not mean that she didn’t deserve what she had earned.
Nothing anyone says to Arit was ever going to make her give this up.
This thought crossed ARit’s mind as she passed an office with a tall pretty brunette sitting inside. The brunette had her hands in her hair and she was frowning in concentration as she read through a large anatomy textbook on her desk, The brunette’s name was Diana and she had joined the hospital at the same time that Arit joined. The only difference between them was that Diana was someone who had recently graduated from college while Arit had only finished high school. Diana also had an apprenticeship under Jeanne, but right from the beginning, Arit knew that she and Diana were never going to get along.
Diana’s frown deepened and she looked up as she felt someone staring at her! Once Diana saw Arit standing there, her entire face soured into a look of annoyance! Diana stood and walked over to the door before slamming it shut in Arit’s face!
SLAM!
Diana hated the fact that an ordinary high schooler like Arit was able to get to the same position that took her nearly five years to reach, and after Diana realized that Arit was smart enough to perform better than her in many of the tests and assessments, Diana’s hatred only grew even deeper!
Arit felt a surge of anger rising from inside her after Diana slammed the door in her face and the QUEEN raged in anger at the sheer disrespect that Diana showed, but Arit easily calmed the QUEEN down and just turned to leave. Arit wasn’t going to allow Diana’s attitude get to her!
Arit finally made it to ward room 5, and she felt a small smile spread on her lips as she saw the little boy sitting up in bed and playing with a shark-anima stuffed toy. There was a woman sitting beside the boy, and she greeted Arit with a bow once she saw her enter.
“A-Are you the doctor that’s going to test my boy?”
The woman and her son were of Asian descent and the woman had a bit of a nervous crack in her voice as she spoke to Arit. From the way the woman’s eyes widened slightly once she saw Arit, Arit knew that the woman recognized her. Arit was very popular all over the internet, both as Mark’s girlfriend and as one of the youngest apprentice doctors out there, so Arit wasn’t surprised that the woman would recognize her. Arit was just glad that the woman didn’t look too nervous to be around her.
Arit greeted the woman softly and said that the tests wouldn’t take long at all. Arit had read through the boy’s files on her way here, and from what she saw, she couldn’t help but feel for the woman in front of her.
The boy had been diagnosed with an optic disease a few years ago, and the doctors had told his mother that her son would lose his sight in a few years no matter what they did. There was no known medicine for treating the form of optic disease that the boy had, and even though the boy had perfect eyesight now, it would slowly start to darken around the edges until he lost his sight completely.
The woman had been broken by that news, and for years she had gone around the world trying to find a doctor that would be able to help her. The boy was eight years old now, and he was diagnosed when he was only three years old. By the time the boy turned six, he had already lost more than thirty percent of his vision, and he would sometimes bump into doors and tables while walking. It was like torture for the mother to see her son slowly deteriorating right in front of her, and she thought that this was how her son’s life would be forever.
But then, Mark had opened the Vanguard hospital under his guild name and put Jeanne as the head doctor. All of a sudden, people who would never be able to get to Jeanne because of how difficult it was to get near her were able to do just that through the hospital. The mother had booked an appointment and prayed to all the gods out there that she would be able to get even one minute of Jeanne’s time, and finally, after more than three months, she was told to come in with her son.
The situation was explained to Jeanne, and the mother said that she was willing to empty out her savings and everything she owned for her son to get his sight back. Jeanne said that it wasn’t necessary and explained what she was going to do to the mother as well as the sort of consequences that it would have. The mother was stunned to hear that her son would lose a few years of his life in the process, but she had to bite the bullet and accept the offer. It was a horrid thing to think, but what were a few years of life compared to your sight? It was a good exchange.
All it took was one touch.
Jeanne touched the boy, and the mother immediately knew that it worked from the way her son’s eyes widened! Arit had been watching from another room when the boy was healed, and Arit had never seen anyone get to their knees so fast before. The woman got to her knees and thanked Jeanne like Jeanne was a god in human flesh. The happiness on the woman’s face and the way she thanked Jeanne made Arit even more excited about what they were doing.
They weren’t just doing this for the money it would bring. They were doing it to give happiness back to people like these. Those that really needed it.
There were a few other superhuman healers working in the hospital, but none of them had the amount of skill that Jeanne possessed, and most of the doctors here were just regular humans or superhumans without healing abilities since most healing-based superhumans were poached by guilds immediately after they revealed their abilities to the world, so having Jeanen here to handle incurable diseases like these was a great boost to the entire hospital.
Arit sat down on a chair beside the bed of the boy playing with the anima toy, and she smiled and greeted him. The boy had already been looking at her since she came in, and his face heated up a little when he saw her smile at him.
“You’re beautiful!”
The boy suddenly cried out in awe!
