Chapter 699: Meeting The Executives
“You’re beautiful!”
The boy cried and Arit blinked in surprise before smiling and thanking him kindly. The boy’s mother laughed from behind Arit as she saw the look on her son’s face, and the mother almost started crying again as she realized that if not for this hospital, her son might not have ever been able to say something like that in his life. She was so thankful!
The boy’s face heated up again once he heard his mother laughing. Arit finally lifted her clipboard to him.
“I’m going to ask you a few questions and carry out a few tests. Do you think you can answer a few questions for me?”
The boy nodded quickly, and Arit smiled once more as she started to carry out her tests.
…
Ring~
Ring~
Ring~
A few minutes into the tests, Arit’s phone rang, and Arit told the boy’s mother that she would be right back and excused herself once she saw that it was Mark calling.
Arit picked up and immediately spoke up.
“Mark. How did it go?”
Mark chuckled from the other end of the call. No matter how strong he gets, Mark could never get Arit to stop worrying about him when he goes on missions.
[Hey, Arit, it went well. Wasn’t any trouble at all. We’re on our way back to HQ now. How about you, are you done with your shift yet?]
Luna was sleeping against Mark’s shoulder as they rode the helicopter, and Mark adjusted his arm a little so that she would be more comfortable as he listened to Arit.
Arit released a sigh of relief when she heard Mark say that they were alright, but she grimaced when Mark asked if she had free time.
“Sorry, babe, I have ER duty later. Jeanne’s a slave driver, and we might be in there for hours. I should be free by eleven at the latest if Jeanne has anything to say about it. Did you have anything planned?”
Mark hummed before he spoke.
[I wanted the three of us to go get dinner, but if you’re going to be on ER duty, then it’ll be better to just meet up at home. We have a meeting back at HQ. Pat said he might’ve gotten something on the syndicate, so I’ll fill you in when we get home, alright?]
Arit felt a little disappointed that they wouldn’t be able to go out, but she understood since it would be late at night before she was done with work. This was one of the only things Arit regretted about her new apprenticeship. Arit didn’t have as much free time as she used to, so she didn’t have time to go on missions, hang out, or even cook for Mark like she used to. It was so annoying!
Arit sighed, and she heard Mark chuckle from the other side of the phone once he heard it.
[Oh, come on, it’s not that bad. We’re going to see each other back home. Just take time and finish off your shift, alright? I’ll get you something nice to eat.]
Arit released another tired sigh before a small smile spread on her face as she thanked Mark for understanding. Arit swore that she would make it up to him and Luna later.
[Alright, babe. We’ll call you when we’re done with the meeting.]
Mark clicked off the call after saying goodbye, and Arit stared at it longingly for a few seconds before she sighed, steeled her resolve, and headed back inside to finish off her tests. Arit was the one that chose this, so she didn’t have any right to feel sad about how little time she had outside of work!
…
[The Vanguard Guild Headquarters]
In the upper areas of City S, a fifty-story high-rise building stood tall in a large area of land covering close to ten acres! The building had a large parking space in front of it, and the entire land was surrounded by high walls and a large gate that prevented any unauthorized persons from getting in.
The high-rise building had a large V engraved into the side to show that it was the guild headquarters of the Vanguard Guild.
That night, after more than eight hours of flying, Mark’s helicopter finally arrived at the building. A man on top of the building guided the helicopter to land on the helipad there using lights, and afterward, Mark and Luna came out from inside with slightly tired expressions on their faces. Even though they weren’t physically exhausted, anyone would be mentally drained after flying for eight hours right after a battle.

There were a few guild members around the rooftop handling various businesses, and Mark ignored them all as he made his way into the doors leading to the elevator with Luna. They went down to the administrative floor that was only open to the highest-ranking executives in the guild and started to make their way to the conference room on the other side of the floor.
The room they entered was a large rectangular one with white walls and mahogany floors. There was a large screen on one side of the room where a projector image was being shown, and in the middle of the room, there was a large rectangular table with multiple chairs arranged around it.
A few people were already seated at the table and waiting for Mark and Luna, and once they entered, a loud voice called out from the table.
“Marky! You’re back! I killed all the anima and came back quick cause I missed you!”
Tina waved happily with a wide smile on her face as she greeted Mark, and Mark just gave the crazy girl a short greeting with a smile. Tina had been on a mission in South Africa to deal with a low-level Eldritch Class bison that appeared two days ago, and if she was here now, that could only mean that she had already finished it. Mark wasn’t surprised that Tina was able to deal with it so quickly. In the five months since Tina joined the Vanguard Guild, she had grown very quickly, and now she was already an Elite rank superhuman.
Mark just wished she wasn’t still fixated on trying to sleep with him.
Other than Tina, there were a few other people in the room seated around the rectangular table. Many of them were new faces who joined the guild from various countries around the world. On Tina’s right-hand side, there was a Chinese man with white hair and a long sword lying against the table beside him. To the Chinese man’s right was a dark-skinned woman from Nigeria who wore a long flowing gown that made her look almost like a priestess. Her eyes were closed, but Mark knew that whenever she opened them, they glowed like the sun.
There was also a French man sitting opposite Tina, and he was giving smiles to everyone around with a bit too much enthusiasm. He was one of the newer members of the executives, and even though Mark felt he was a bit too enthusiastic, Mark knew that he was strong.
And the last person at the table was Tyler, the leader of the Artemis guild that had once been led by Fiona. After a few months of trying to carry out all of the administrative functions of the guild on his own, Tyler realized that he just didn’t have the same amount of skill for politics and administration that Fiona did.
Fiona was able to keep their guild afloat in a world ruled by people who were stronger than her. Even though Fiona was only an A rank, she managed to give their small guild a fighting chance against some of the S-rank guilds.
But Tyler was not like that. Tyler’s strongest trait was his ability to fight against people who were stronger than him; he didn’t have the subtlety and eloquence that Fiona used when dealing with difficult people.
