Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 707
Chapter 707: T&I Department
“I thought I’d surprise you at the hospital, but I noticed you coming in here and followed. Are these friends of yours?”
Arit chuckled as Mark gestured to the head and the unconscious body and she shook her head and told Mark the details of what just happened.
When Arit mentioned that they spoke about some King, Mark’s brow squeezed into a frown as his expression changed to a more serious one, but it wasn’t until Arit mentioned that the two men had been just like her that Mark really started to worry.
Them being like her meant that they were humans that were able to change into anima, didn’t it? Was this something that the syndicate planned? Were they trying to create an army of anima from people? Mark wasn’t surprised that people could be turned to anima because he knew that Salazar had done the same thing. But the fact that the syndicate here found a way to turn people to anima so quickly and allow them to blend into society was not a good thought at all.
This meant that anyone could be an anima. That guy on the bus or even that woman walking beside you could be one of the anima and you’d never know. The situation immediately became a lot more serious to Mark. Mark gave the unconscious body on the ground another look before he shook his head.
“I’ll put the torture and interrogation team to work and we’ll see what we can get out of them. Did they mention anything about the syndicate?”
Arit shook her head to Mark’s question and Mark sighed in annoyance as he used his foot to prod the body on the ground. These fucking bastards were now going after his girlfriends. Mark swore that he was going to find out what the fuck all this was about.
After learning that there were so many anima with the ability to talk, Mark decided that he was going to create an entire division of his guild that was focused only on torture and interrogation to try and get the most information out of the anima. Many of the members of the team were former psychologists and therapists who had trained in the best ways to help people who had been hurt or tortured. But now, instead of teaching people how to get out of trauma, they were finding more and more interesting ways to induce trauma on the anima.
The first person that this team had worked on was Salazar and Mark paid them a lot of money to make sure they got as much information out of Salazar as possible. It was this information that Patrick was now using to track down the syndicate more efficiently, but it was just too bad that even Salazar didn’t know as much about the syndicate as Mark thought he would.
The two lizardmen were barely up to S rank strength, so Mark knew that they didn’t pose much of a threat to Arit and that was why he didn’t bother interfering in her fight. Now that Mark knew they were somehow involved with the so-called King of anima, Mark was going to take them a lot more seriously. But them being so weak also meant that they wouldn’t be that high up on the hierarchy of the Syndicate. Even if the torture department worked on the red lizard for a long time, they wouldn’t be able to get a lot out of him since he wouldn’t know a lot to begin with.
Vroom!
A silver Ferrari LaFerrari drove into the parking lot and Arit smiled and waved as she saw Luna getting out of the driver’s seat. Luna smiled back at Arit before she grimaced as she saw the head of the lizard man spilling blood on the ground beside them. Luna could never get used to just how brutal Arit was whenever she fought.
Luna gave Arit a hug and asked her if she was okay and Arit told her that she was fine. The two men were weak, so they didn’t even hurt her.
Once they were done talking, Luna turned and told Mark that she had called the cleanup crew.
“They should be here in a few minutes to get the bodies. And I’ve called Tina and her group to check out the buildings around here and see if there are any other anima around. But we might have a small issue with the building. The company that owns it is claiming that their insurance doesn’t cover this, so they want us to pay for the damage Arit caused.”
Arit smiled sheepishly at that information and Mark shrugged and told Luna that it didn’t matter. If the company was doing too much, they would just buy the building from them and use it for something. Mark knew that the company was probably looking for an excuse to sell the building anyway. It had been here for months and they still hadn’t finished it, so they were trying to use this as an avenue to get someone to pay for it.
“We’ll just buy it and use it for another guild branch or maybe another academy for the kids in the orphanage. We can never have too many of those.”
Luna agreed and finally turned to Arit.
“Arit, did Mark tell you where we’re going? He did? Aww, I thought it’d be a surprise. We haven’t been out together in ages, and I heard they have a whole new menu at the store!”
Arit chuckled as she took the handkerchief Mark gave her to clean the blood off her hands while listening to Luna. The three of them were already very popular with the staff and owners of McRonald’s because of how much Luna loved going there for breakfast. Over the past five months, the three of them had been on many dates to fancy hotels and restaurants, but Arit had to admit that she liked going to down-to-earth places like McRonald’s a lot more.
It just felt more like home to her than the snobbish and high-class setting of the five-star restaurants.
“Maybe this time you’ll try not to make the server faint. The poor boy almost had a heart attack when you opened your shirt.”
Luna blushed and glared at Arit when Arit said this.
“It’s not my fault he was staring at me. All I did was open a button on my shirt!”
Mark and Arit both chuckled and Mark told Luna that she had no idea what a simple gesture like that could do to a growing boy. Luna had an online fan club that worshipped her feet and Mark and Arit had laughed at her for a long time after they searched and found out that people were paying a lot of money just to access it, so what sort of frenzy did she think her cleavage would cause to those people?
Strangely enough, the foot-worshipping site had been taken down the very next day by an anonymous hacker. Both Luna and Arit knew that it was Mark who told Pat to take it down, but they didn’t mention it since Mark didn’t say anything about it either.
Ring~ Ring~ Ring~
Mark’s phone rang and he picked it up calmly after seeing that it was Pat. Pat’s rude tone came through the phone with the sound of keyboard keys clicking and Grace singing a strange song in the background.
[Mark, I checked out the mana signatures of the two lizardmen as you wanted. There’s something strange about it. They don’t have the mana signature that I thought I’d see. You know how Fiona’s mana signature was a little botched when she was turned into an anima? It was almost like some of her superhuman mana remained and mixed in with her anima mana so it was both blue and red at the same time. I thought I’d see the same thing with these men, but it’s not like that at all.]
