Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 709
Chapter 709: Dinner Date
It was only after being with Mark and Arit for more than three months that Luna realized that Arit wasn’t just acting the way she was acting to keep up appearances. Arit genuinely saw Luna as a friend! Luna watched Arit for a while longer, and she noticed that the main reason for Arit’s closeness to her was that Arit just didn’t have any other female friends in her life.
There was no one else around Arit that she could talk to about things that only women of her age would want to talk about. Arit didn’t have a mother, sister or anything else. The closest thing Arit had to a female friend was Jeanne, but Jeanne was more of a mentor than a friend and Arit never felt comfortable joking with Jeanne because of how much she respected her. And with how possessive of Mark Arit was, Arit wasn’t comfortable becoming friends with anyone else because she was worried that they might try to seduce Mark, and she would have to kill them.
Arit didn’t have that kind of worry with Luna because Luna was already in the relationship, so Arit was able to let down all her walls and became good friends with Luna so that they would be comfortable around each other.
“Mr. Vanitas, it’s always a pleasure to serve you and your family. Please, right this way. I hope the drive down here wasn’t too taxing. I heard there was some traffic on the Fifth Avenue lane, so that might have caused some delay.”
The manager of the restaurant came out once they entered the restaurant and he smiled in a professional manner and started to lead them to a table. Mark told the man that he didn’t need the extra service. This was a regular diner, not some five-star restaurant. He didn’t need to come out here to serve them himself every time.
“No, no, you don’t need to feel bad about this! I’ll always come to serve your family! As long as you continue to come here, then we will continue to give you nothing but the best! You’re the God Killer himself, going out of our way for you is the least we can do!”
The owner gave another smile as he led Mark to his table, and Mark just scoffed with a small smile when he heard the man’s response. The man was talking in such a sophisticated manner that clashed with the McRonald’s shirt he was wearing in an amusing way Mark couldn’t even describe!
Mark thanked the man for taking them to the table, and Luna and Arit sat down close together on one side of the circular table while Mark went to sit on the other side of the table to face them both.
“So when are you going on your next mission?”
Arit spoke up to Luna after Luna finished narrating the last mission that she and Mark had been on. Arit had a curious glint in her eyes that showed how much she was enjoying the stories. Arit didn’t go on as many missions as she used to because she was now working in the hospital, so hearing about all the different places that Mark and Luna were going to was always interesting to her.
Luna’s face scrunched up for a second before she hummed as she remembered.
“I think it was something in Madagascar, right Mark?”
Mark nodded as he finally put down his phone once he finished speaking with the vice-captain. Mark spoke up with a small frown.
“The residents there complained that there was a sea monster preventing them from using the sea for fishing. Pat’s MDS searched the area, and the mana signature we saw showed that it was larger than what they initially thought. It’s at least an Eldritch-class anima, so Luna’ll go handle that herself. I have to go to France with Louise to look into something else. Some strange disturbance with the Seine River that might be too much for them to handle alone.”
Arit’s eyes sparkled as soon as she heard Mark talk about France! Arit had always wanted to go to France and she immediately asked Mark if she could come along!
“If you’re going, then take me with you! I want to see the Eiffel Tower!”
Mark chuckled slightly and promised to take Arit along if Jeanne gave her time off from work as the servers brought them their food. Since all of them were superhumans, they all ate a lot more than normal people, so the table was filled with so many burgers, fries, and drinks that they couldn’t even see the actual table under everything anymore.
Mark thanked the waiter, and the waiter blushed as Luna gestured for him to come over. Luna handed him a hundred-dollar bill as a tip, and the man’s eyes widened in shock before he bowed deeply in thanks and slowly walked back.
The three of them ate and talked happily late into the night, and it wasn’t until it was almost midnight that they left the store and started to head home.
After the hotel and Mark’s former place were destroyed, Mark made sure Pat kept his word and got him a new house somewhere far away from the main city in City S. The house that Pat built was located on a large expanse of land that had a large forest on one side and a river that linked to a waterfall on the other side. The entire land was located on a small hill that overlooked the city in the distance, so it was always amazing when they woke up to the sight of the sun rising from behind the city and casting shadows over the buildings.
Mark knew that they could have just stayed in Luna’s house since it was large enough for all of them, but Mark didn’t do that because he felt the house was too large and impersonal. And a part of Mark just felt like he needed to have his own house. Moving into his girlfriend’s house didn’t sit right with him.
The house that Pat had built for him was a duplex. The ground floor had an entire wall made up of glass in the front, and the rest of it had been built using concrete and mahogany. The upper floor was also made in the same way. There was a glass wall located at the northern side of the master bedroom, but the entire wall had been made with one-way glass this time to preserve their privacy.
Mark and Luna drove into the underground garage and the three of them used the inner stairway to make their way upstairs. The lights turned on automatically as they climbed, and they appeared in a large living space on the ground floor after a while.
The house was empty because Talia had gone over to James’ place for a play date. Talia and James had become inseparable over the past five months, and if not for the fact that they were still children, Mark would’ve been worried about how close they were. Talia would always tell Mark that she wanted to go for a play date at James’ place, and if it wasn’t possible for her to go there, then she would ask Mark if it was okay for James to come over! Mark never saw anything wrong with them meeting, so they had only grown closer the more they met.
“Mark, we’re going to the bathroom, okay? We need to do something! We’ll meet you in the bedroom soon, so don’t come in!”
Mark was putting his coat on the rack when Arit suddenly said this while dragging a blushing Luna away, and Mark raised an eyebrow as he watched them go. There were three bathrooms in the house, and Arit had dragged Luna into the one upstairs that was hardly used. Mark had no idea what they were up to, and Mark decided that it was better for him not to think about it too much. They were going to show him anyway.
