Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 716
Chapter 716: Meeting With Henry
It was the weekend and Mark, Arit, and Luna were all free from work for a short while, so they didn’t have to worry about needing to head out to of the house anytime soon.
Mark took a quick shower and he walked out a few minutes later, wearing a pair of black joggers and a black singlet, and using a towel to dry his hair. As Mark passed a mirror, his eye caught the tattoo that had been etched into his forehead and he frowned for a second before ignoring it and moving on. The tattoo had become a part of him now, so Mark didn’t even feel irritated whenever he saw it anymore. And besides, it was pretty useful.
Mark felt his connection with some of the animals around the building as the tattoo on his forehead glowed a dull golden light. The connection allowed Mark to communicate with the animals, and he was able to get a general idea of what was happening around the compound. If there was any sort of trouble around the building, then the animals would alert Mark of it and he would be able to handle things before it got out of hand.
After purchasing this land, Mark brought in many wild animals like bears, wolves, lions, and foxes, as well as some game animals like deer to live in the forest surrounding the land. And since there were already a few herbivores in the forest as well, there was a thriving ecosystem in there that didn’t need his attention at all. Instead, Mark formed a connection with all of the animals in the forest and he communicates with them randomly using the Mark of Freya to see if there is any trouble in or around his land.
Ring~ Ring~ Ring~
Mark’s phone rang from the bedroom and Mark brought out his AirPod and put it in to answer the call. Hao’s voice came through from the other side of the call, and no matter how many times Mark heard it, he could never get over how depressing it sounded. Hao was the sort of person who always sounded like their life was on the edge of tearing apart and they didn’t care because they were just an insignificant speck of dust in the vast universe.
Mark chuckled at his own joke as he listened to Hao.
[Captain, I’m not interrupting anything, am I? No? Alright. I just wanted to let you know that I spoke to the head of the Superhuman Alliance’s Asian branch. She said there was something that she communicated with the Superhuman Alliance in America a few weeks ago and the director was already on his way back to talk to you about it. I know you don’t like the guy, but this could be useful for getting into Japan, so I think we should have a sit-down with him.]
It was no secret to anyone in America that Mark did not like Henry Ford, the director of the Superhuman Alliance, and the members of Mark’s guild all knew that Mark hated the bastard. After what happened between Mark and Henry during the Armageddon invasion and the Superhuman Alliance raid on the Red Lotus Hotel, Mark did not bother giving Henry Ford any sort of respect as the head of the Superhuman Alliance in America anymore. Mark tolerated him and that was all.
At first, no one knew that Mark and Henry were on bad terms because Mark never made it public that he did not like Henry, but after a meeting where Mark blatantly ignored Henry’s hand when he extended it for a handshake and refused to take any pictures or sit at any meeting where Henry was present, it became more and more obvious that they were not on good terms.
Those in Mark’s guild always treaded on thin ice when it came to the Superhuman Alliance and they made sure not to set up any meeting where Mark and Henry would be in the same room because they knew more than anyone how much Mark despised him.
Lately, Mark was only talking to George, the vice director, about anything regarding the Superhuman Alliance, and even George knew better than to try and get Mark and Henry in the same room.
Mark frowned once he heard Hao speak that name. Mark was not the sort of person to hold a grudge. It just wasn’t in his nature because he couldn’t care less about people that weren’t close to him. But Henry was someone that Mark just could not get along with. Henry was a coward and if there was one thing that Mark hated the most in this world, it was cowards who were willing to throw anyone else under the bus just to preserve their own life and property.
Mark was silent for a long time after Hao spoke. Mark might not like Henry, but could Mark really use that as a reason for refusing this meeting? Mark knew that there was something bigger at stake here and refusing to meet with Henry just because he didn’t like him was childish.
Mark decided that just for the sake of the mission, he would hear what Henry had to say.
“When did you say the meeting was?”
Hao was shocked when he heard Mark ask that question. Hao thought for sure that Mark would tell him not to set up a meeting with Henry there, and Hao was already prepared to try and convince Mark to attend since Henry had stated that he would only talk to Mark about this and no one else. But since Mark was willing to do it, Hao decided not to question Mark’s reasons and just roll with it.
[Yeah, he said he’ll be here by Monday. That’s about two days from now. He wants to meet at ten in the morning—]
“No, I’ll be in France on Monday. I have to deal with something in the Seine River. Tell him to come around on Tuesday. We’ll meet wherever he wants, but it has to be at twelve in the afternoon.”
Mark cut Hao off before he could finish what he was saying. Mark was going with Louise to France to help out with the Eldritch that made its way into the Seine and he wouldn’t be back till the next day at the earliest. If Henry wanted the meeting, then he would just have to wait until then.
Hao accepted Mark’s orders easily and told him he would let Henry know about it before Mark cut the call and continued on his way to the kitchen.
Mark got to the kitchen and grabbed a pan from the side while picking out a chip from the large bag that Luna left open the previous day and biting into it. Since both girls were going to be dead tired when they woke up, Mark decided he was going to make breakfast.
…
The smell of food and the sound of Mark moving around the kitchen was the first thing that woke Arit up. Arit waking up made Luna slowly open her eyes and they both smiled and headed to the bathroom when they didn’t see Mark in the room with them.
