Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 730
Chapter 730: Kuro and Megumi
“Yoshida-san! The surveyor said it is intact, so it’s good for transport! We are going to take it back with us and perform the cost analysis!”
One of the superhuman alliance agents that was on the beach, looking through the corpse of the Eldritch, shouted out loudly. Both Megumi and the man turned to her when she shouted Yoshida-san, but once Megumi heard what the woman said, she knew that the woman was not talking to her, and she turned to watch as the man waved his hand and told them to get on with it!
The man took another drag from his cigarette before walking up to Megumi and speaking in a familiar way.
“Hey, sis. Another steller kill.”
Megumi gave the man a nod in return, and the man scoffed at her emotionless response. He sighed tiredly and turned to look at the monster on the ground with tired eyes. The man’s name was Kuro Yoshida; he was currently one of the higher-ranking members of the Superhuman Alliance, an ELITE Rank superhuman, and the older brother of Megumi Yoshida. But the man didn’t always feel like he was her brother.
Even though they were siblings, Megumi and Kuro did not always talk to each other. In fact, Kuro could count on one hand the amount of times they had stood in front of one another in the past two months! The reason for this was not only because of their jobs, or the constant traveling that Megumi did in order to take care of anima all over Japan, but it was also due to the fact that the two siblings just didn’t have anything to speak about anymore. They had grown further and further apart the more Megumi grew stronger, and now that she was powerful enough to handle an Eldritch like it was some sort of toy, it was as if Kuro couldn’t recognize her anymore. He had no idea where his sister had gone to.
Kuro suddenly started to speak quickly in a way that showed that he wasn’t waiting for a response from Megumi.
“Do you have any injuries we need to look at? Well, it’s you, so you probably don’t have anything like that. I’ll tell the alliance to send you the check for the anima once we’re done with the analysis, so you’ll have to drop your current address so we can send it there. Oh, and I’m sure Yukki already told you that the Director wants to meet with you. I don’t know what it’s about, so don’t look at me like that. He might be a bit eccentric, but he’s your teacher and the head of the guild. It’s just protocol that you answer when the head of your agency calls on you. I’m sure it’s nothing.”
The look that Megumi gave Kuro was basically the same as the emotionless look that she gave to everyone, even as she heard him speaking, but Kuro was her brother, so it was easier for him to pick up on the irritation she felt when he mentioned the meeting with the Director, and it was also easy for him to notice the slight frown on her face when he said that she had to go and meet with him.
It was barely noticeable, and over the past few months, Kuro noticed that it was harder and harder for him to pick up on these signs, but he was still able to do it, and for that, he was grateful.
Kuro continued talking.
“Mum has been asking about you. She says you don’t come home anymore, you don’t even pick up her calls. We went to Dad’s grave yesterday though. It was really sad, as always. Mum cried a lot. It was like she was trying to flood the place with her tears. Hehe. Maybe it’s menopause getting to her. Oh yeah, did you get the wedding invite? I don’t know if you’ll come, but Suzume wants you to. She says, ‘The sister of the groom shouldn’t be left out,’ or something like that. Silly woman.”
Megumi’s expression remained unchanged through all of the things that Kuro said. Even when Kuro mentioned their mother crying and visiting their father’s grave, there was no reaction from her. Kuro felt some anger rising in his heart, but he immediately squashed it as he turned away. In a way, Kuro never expected any form of reaction from her in the first place.
Kuro finally decided to end the one-sided conversation.
“Come on, we need to get to work, and we can’t really do that with you here drawing so much attention. I think there was a helicopter that came here with us for you, so you can take it. Oh, and make sure you take a bath before going to the Director. You stink.”
Megumi raised her right hand once Kuro said that she was smelly, and she sniffed her forearm subtly. She quickly recoiled in shock, and the contrast between her shocked reaction and the emotionless look on her face was enough to make Kuro burst out laughing! Kuro took a drag from his cigarette and gave Megumi a head pat warmly like any big brother would do for his little sister before jumping off the hill they had been on to join the other agents in taking care of the anima corpse.
Megumi watched her brother as he landed on the ground and started talking to one of the agents at the side, and when the agent started to laugh at something her brother said, she felt her hand squeeze her pommel tightly as something similar to jealousy rose from inside her body. But even with this emotion present, there was still nothing on her face that gave away any sort of feeling.
It wasn’t her fault. It really wasn’t her fault!
Megumi turned away and went to board the helicopter back to her apartment. Megumi currently lived in a large three-story building that she built in the less populated region of Hakodate. There was a lot of greenery surrounding the house, and the only person that she allowed to come anywhere near the house was her personal secretary, Yukki. Yukki was the one who had been talking into Megumi’s ear during the fights, and Yukki was responsible for handling everything that Megumi wanted done— from shopping, to buying meals, to handling paperwork and even dealing with reporters and paparazzi.
Megumi’s helicopter landed in the large space in front of the three-story building. This was only one of about ten different houses that Megumi owned all over Japan. Megumi used these houses to rest and recuperate whenever she was on the road for an anima subjugation, or if she just felt like going to another city for a change of environment. She usually used this house only when there was an issue either in Hokkaido or Sapporo, which were close by.
In front of Megumi’s house, a young woman wearing sweatpants and a large baggy sweatshirt was standing there while holding her hand up to her hair to prevent the wind from the helicopter from ruining it. The woman had a small, cute face and a short bob cut that would make anyone who saw her immediately think of a puppy, and when you added this to her short stature and shy face, it was easy for anyone to call her cute! This woman was Yukki, Megumi’s personal secretary.
The helicopter landed in front of the building, and Megumi signaled to the man piloting the helicopter that he was to wait for her for a few minutes before she walked toward Yukki. Yukki immediately spoke up over the dwindling echo of the helicopter’s propeller!
