Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 739
Chapter 739: The Team
“Even though Arit is already doing exactly what she wants now, I don’t think that her love for being a doctor will ever be able to compare to how much she cares about you. You shouldn’t think too much about whether or not it is the right choice to bring her with us. If you ask her about it, Arit would agree to be with you a thousand times over. There’s nowhere else that Arit would rather be.”
Mark listened quietly to everything that Luna said and his thoughts ran through everything that he heard quickly! Mark could obviously see the sense in what Luna just said. Mark knew that Arit truly loved him and if he told her to come with him, then she wouldn’t even hesitate for a second before dropping everything that she was doing just for him. Mark had only been worried that by taking her away from the hospital, he was dragging her into a world that she didn’t really want to be a part of.
But Mark decided that maybe he was thinking about it too much. At the end of the day, wasn’t it Arit’s choice about whether or not she came to the tournament? Mark would tell her about it and he would allow her to choose for herself. If Arit chooses to stay, that was fine and if she chooses to come with him, then Mark would be fine with that too.
Besides, the real purpose of the tournament wasn’t really to fight and win. Mark was only entering this tournament because he wanted to find a way into Japan in the first place. Once Mark gets into Japan, then he was going to be more focused on finding out what the mass of mana that was moving towards the Japanese coast was. If that required Mark to either drop out of the tournament or leave the tournament early, then Mark was going to do just that.
Mark wanted to have Arit there because he knew that if it came down to a fight between them and many other opponents, then Arit was one of the best allies to watch his back.
‘And with the recent attack that she faced close to the hospital, I don’t feel okay leaving her behind for that long.’
It would be dangerous if an opponent stronger than Arit showed up while Mark was in Japan, so that was another reason why Mark felt like it was better for Arit to be beside him.
Mark sighed as he finally came to a decision and he reached his hand up and took Luna’s face in his palm gently. Mark pulled Luna down and Luna didn’t resist as their lips met in a gentle kiss. Luna’s white hair fell around the both of them like a curtain of pure snow and Luna put her other hand on Mark’s chest and felt his calm heartbeat as they kissed. When they separated, Luna sighed happily and Mark smiled and spoke.
“Thanks. That really helped.”
Luna felt a small blush rising on her chest when she saw Mark smiling at her softly and she used a hand to hide the blush as she spoke up and said that it was nothing.
“I-I just said what I felt was right. I didn’t do much.”
The both of them stayed on the couch for a while just talking to each other, but it wasn’t long before a call came through Mark’s phone. Mark picked it up once he saw that it was Pat and he listened for about thirty seconds before he said that he was on his way and he hung up.
Luna put her hands behind her and leaned back gently as she watched Mark stand up. Luna spoke up with a small frown.
“Another anima?”
Mark nodded as he leaned down and kissed her before going to grab his jacket off her table and spoke while walking out.
“It’s near South America, so I shouldn’t be gone for long. Thanks for your help, I’ll talk to Arit about it later.”
…
The next few days passed like a blur to Mark. Mark didn’t have many responsibilities other than fighting against anima and handling meetings that he had to be a part of as the head of the Vanguard guild and the Vantias Franchise, so Mark’s life had taken on a sort of monotonous form that blurred the days into one long period for him.
Mark had become too strong, so even when he was fighting against anima and he had to figure out the form of power that they had and how they used their abilities, it usually just ended up with him overpowering them without them causing him any harm.
Mark spoke to Arit about the tournament after his chat with Luna and just like Mark predicted, Arit had jumped on the opportunity quickly. Arit didn’t have any hesitation about leaving her work to help out at the tournament and even when she spoke to Jeanne about it, Mark could tell that she was not really asking for permission from Jeanne. Arit was telling Jeanne that she was going.
So now, there was only space for one person that Mark could take with him to the tournament and Mark decided that it was better to pick that last person from one of Luna’s vice-captains. Luna had a total of four vice-captains and all of them were S ranks that were very close to becoming Undefined superhumans. Mark had scanned all their powers and he knew that any one of them would have put up a good fight against Gunter if they faced him. They would’ve definitely lost, but it wouldn’t be a massacre. They had more than enough power and since they had been following Luna for so long, Mark knew that he could trust them to have Luna’s back in case of an emergency.
At the end of the day, Luna chose the Vice Captain who could control metal sand as the final member of the team. He was called Vice Captain Tom and he was the same one that had come to help Luna out during the fight that Luna and Arit had against Sasha! And once they chose him as the final member, the American team was finally complete. All the members of the team included Mark Vantias, Arit Clayborne, Luna, Tina Fey, Thomas, Alec Ben, Alpha One, Alpha Two, Alpha Four and Alpha Six.
The ten of them were going to be traveling to Japan together to compete, but since they were going to be allowed to bring along a small crew of non-combatants, Mark managed to pull some strings to make sure that Patrick and Jeanne were both part of the team that would be coming to Japan. This way, Patrick would be able to work remotely from there to search for anything strange around the country and Jeanne would be able to help out if there was any serious injury during the tournament or fights.
There was another argument between Patrick and Grace when Grace heard that Patrick was going to be leaving her here alone to go to Japan and Patrick just told her to suck it up and stop bitching about it! He was the leader of the lab so he was going and that was final! Grace refused to talk to Patrick for three straight days after that argument!
The tournament was scheduled to hold in October and by the time the date was drawing nearer, nearly everyone in the world was talking about it.
