Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 740
Chapter 740: Leaving America
The tournament was scheduled to be held in October, and by the time the date was drawing nearer, nearly everyone in the world was talking about it. Say anything you want about the Superhuman Alliance, but the one thing that they were very good at was spreading information as quickly as possible, and with them putting the news of the tournament and the contestants on every major channel out there and manipulating the attention of the masses using attractive adverts, it was no surprise that people would steadily gain more and more interest.
There were complaints from some of the guilds in America when they realized that most of the contestants going for the tournament were going to be from the Vanguard guild alone. They all felt like the Vanguard guild was monopolizing the tournament and the government was allowing them to do that just because they were the strongest guild in America. But the guilds couldn’t really say too much about the choices that were made because they knew that there wasn’t a single person in any other guild that could defeat any one of the contestants that were chosen for the tournament. All ten contestants were very active during the last Armageddon attack, and the guilds saw just how good they all were, so there was no doubt about their abilities.
The day they were meant to fly out, a large bus from the Vanguard guild carried the five members that were chosen from the guild to the airport. Throughout the journey, Pat stayed silent while working on something on his laptop, and when Mark asked him what he was working on, Pat just said that he was trying to recalibrate the satellite nearest to Japan so that he could use it when he got there. There were a lot of system blocks that prevented Pat from being able to use his MDS to scan some countries like Russia, Germany, or Japan. But if Pat is inside the country, then he would be able to bypass those system blocks, and it would be easier for him to scan the area around Japan.
Mark nodded and decided not to bother Pat for the remainder of the bus ride as they headed towards the airport. After a few minutes, Pat asked Mark why they weren’t using his private plane to get to Japan since it would be more comfortable and Mark just scoffed and said the government wouldn’t allow it.
Mark knew that he could have simply used a private plane owned by his company to fly them to Japan, but apparently, there was a very strict law in Japan about foreign aircraft, and according to the organizers of the event, all the contestants were only allowed to arrive in Japan using national aircraft so that each country’s participants would arrive at the same time.
The tournament organizers were going to be responsible for arranging both the hotel and meals and entertainment before the tournament for the contestants, and they were told to pack light since there was also a variety of clothes to choose from over in Japan. Mark left Talia over with James and his family. Talia had wanted to come with them to Japan, but Mark didn’t know what they were going to be facing over there, and they were only going to be gone for a short time, so Mark told her to be a good girl and stay with James. Talia complained a little, but thankfully, it wasn’t that hard for him to convince her since Talia liked being with James.
By the time they got to the airport, Mark saw that the entire place was filled with reporters and fans who had come to see them off. There were so many people crowding around the entrance area that Superhuman Alliance Agents had to come in and form a long line of bodies to make space for them to move!
Mark ignored most of the questions that were being thrown around by the reporters and the screams from the fans asking him to sign one thing or another. Mark was already so used to all of this that it didn’t even move him anymore. As they finally started to clear the crowds, Mark saw Alec Ben and the rest of the Alphas waiting inside the boarding area at the airport. Alec gave the group a nod, but the only people there who greeted him back were Luna and Tina. Tina raised her hand excitedly as she saw her brother and shouted!
“Turner! So you’re really here!? Thought you were going to hide in an office for the rest of your fucking life!”
Tina knew that Turner did not like fieldwork, so she was surprised when she saw his name on the list for the tournament! Turner was going to be one of the non-combatants heading to Japan and he would just be there to handle any emergency that might need his expertise. Tina was even more surprised to see that he actually came!
For a second, Tina thought that Turner just put his name up there as a way to pad the number of people that would be going for the tournament and that they would change it later on to someone who actually wanted to be on the field. Seeing Turner there was very surprising for her. At least, Tina was relived when she saw that Turner had registered as a non-combatant. Tina knew that Turner had not been on active duty for a long time. So unless Turner had been secretly training when they weren’t in contact, then there was no reason for him to have been chosen.
Turner sighed tiredly at his sister, but he couldn’t help the small smile that appeared on his face as he waved back at her.
“Hey, Tina. I’m glad to see the time we spent apart hasn’t made you mature enough to give a normal greeting yet.”
Tina laughed happily before going over to jump on him excitedly. The both of them hadn’t had that much time to meet since they were both so busy with work, so this was the first time they would have a chance to meet each other in close to a month.
Henry came up to the group from the side once he saw that everyone was there, and he clapped to get their attention before he spoke up.
“Glad to see you are all here. The plane is going to take you straight to the airport in Tokyo, and you should be meeting the other contestants since they are also going to be arriving today. But I’ll give you this fair bit of information: the Japanese government does not like us. I know they invited all the participants for the tournament, but I am sure they are going to be far harder on the American contestants than on those from other countries. For the sake of the tournament, just try your best to put up with it for the time being. Remember that we represent the entire country, so it wouldn’t be good to get on bad terms with the organizers themselves. Is that alright?”
Henry turned and gave Mark a look when he asked this question, and Mark just shrugged nonchalantly as he heard it.
