Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 746
Chapter 746: Road To Chiba
Mark turned to his Stats and Skill points that he hadn’t used yet and looked through the amount of Stat points that he would need to get his True Sight skill to level up. Mark didn’t have enough points to raise the skill to the next level, and he frowned as he realized he wouldn’t be able to find out more about Megumi’s power until he killed more anima. Mark decided not to let it bother him. Mark didn’t feel like he would have a problem fighting Megumi even if he had no idea what her real power was. This wasn’t the first time Mark would have to figure out an enemy’s power in the middle of a battle, and it also wouldn’t be the last.
When Mark starts exchanging blows with her, he knows that he will be able to find out what her power is in time.
The large buses carrying the superhumans moved past the streets of Japan. There were no signs on the bus to tell anyone who they were carrying, and from the outside, the buses all had tinted windows that prevented anyone from seeing the people inside. So, even though the buses were passing through crowded streets and packed intersections, none of the civilians on the ground were able to tell that the long line of buses were carrying no less than a hundred different superhumans through the streets of Japan.
The government of Japan was able to prevent the news of the superhumans’ arrival from spreading to the public by limiting the social media sites on the Japanese servers. They blocked a certain section of the airport for the day and made sure that there would be no crowds around it when the superhumans arrived. But the government knew that once the civilians caught wind of the superhumans’ arrival, there was nothing that they would be able to do about the crowds of overzealous fans and fanatics that would start forming immediately, so they were doing everything they could to make sure they got the superhumans to their lodges before anyone realized what was going on.
Mark looked out from the window at his side and watched as the streets passed by slowly. The superhumans were currently being driven through the streets of Tokyo, and in the distance, far away, Mark could see the large Tokyo Tower towering over the city. The various civilians moving through the streets, rushing to get to one place or another, seemed very similar to all the depictions of Tokyo that Mark had seen in the movies and anime that Luna had dragged him into watching.
Luna, meanwhile, looked like a kid at a carnival. She was sitting beside Arit on Mark’s right side, and even though she was not close to the window, Mark could tell that she was more invested in watching the scenery than he was. Luna was telling Arit about the places that they were passing and she was even able to give Arit a rundown of some of the more important buildings and the outfits that the people on the street were wearing. Luna had already been to Japan many times before, but this was the first time she would be coming here with close friends. So, to her, it was an entirely new adventure all over again!
They passed the scenery of Tokyo and made their way into the more sparsely populated countryside close to Chiba. The Japanese cities slowly bled away and were replaced by large vegetation and empty roads as they made their way into Chiba.
As they passed the large areas of vegetation and moved through mountainsides and secluded villages, Mark slowly realized that the superhumans were not going to be staying in any civilized region, but rather a secluded piece of land far away from the bustling cities and industrial areas that Tokyo was famous for. Why were they doing this?
The reason for it was obvious to Mark once he thought about it. The government wanted the superhumans to remain as far away from the civilians as possible for the duration of this tournament. They did not want a situation where the superhumans would be able to easily reach any civilian population, either due to fear of what an accident might cause to the civilians or just pure dislike for foreigners in general, Mark did not know.
In a way, Mark could not blame them. If a large group of foreign superhumans were going to be brought into America, then Mark wouldn’t want them to be in the middle of a bustling city either. It would be like putting a huge cargo of nuclear bombs right in the center of a city and expecting there to be no accidents, even though each one of them was primed for detonation. It just wasn’t possible.
So, regardless of the blatant insult that was being directed at all the superhumans by treating them in this way, Mark decided to overlook it this once and put up with it for the sake of finishing the mission that they were here for.
[Mark, there’s an issue.]
Pat’s voice suddenly came from the airpod in Mark’s ear, and Mark turned his head to the right to look at where Pat and Jeanne were seated close to Alpha Three. Patrick had been working right from the moment he landed in Japan as he tried to recalibrate the MDS to work in the country now that he was inside of it and much closer to the Japanese servers. Pat had only been able to take very simple readings of the area in and around Japan because of how serious the Japanese were about blocking him at every corner. Pat’s system worked by using the satellite systems hovering over a region to scan that region, and he needed a long time in order to take proper readings. If the system didn’t stay for long enough, or if he didn’t have constant access to the satellites, then Pat wouldn’t be able to tell where or how the anima in the region were moving.
In order to get access to the satellites hovering over Japan, Pat needed to be inside the country so that the system was close enough to make it work. And now that he was here, Pat was finally able to get enough access to the satellites to scan for the anima movements.
The first thing that Pat noticed once he scanned the area was the fact that there was a large island just off the coast of Japan where multiple anima signatures were detected. Pat showed this to Mark on the plane, and after looking for the positioning of the superhumans around that area and how the anima were moving, they were able to figure out that the anima weren’t moving as freely as they would expected them to. Instead, the anima all seemed to be trapped in place like they were in some sort of prison. Mark guessed that the anima there weren’t attacking the island; instead, the superhumans in Japan were the ones that put them there. And the only reason why they would keep such a large amount of anima in one place could only be because of the upcoming tournament.
Pat ignored the island after figuring out that it was just an anima farm that they were preserving in preparation for the tournament and instead, he moved on to searching for the large mass of anima mana that had been moving through the coastline around Japan.
