Strongest Superhuman System - Chapter 772
Chapter 772: Nerves
On the other side of the island, the second plane that took off from the mainland of Japan had already arrived. The aircraft held the remaining five countries that hadn’t been on the first plane. Japan, Nigeria, China, and France were all present on this plane, and just from the way they were staring at each other, it was obvious to anyone present there that these countries were not in this competition for anything other than to win! They were different from the Americans and Russians, who both had ulterior motives for being here; they were here only because they wanted to bring the trophy back to their countries!
Hao and Louise were both on the plane as well, and from the comms that Mark had given them earlier, they were able to hear some of Mark’s orders to the members of the Vanguard Guild. Mark told them earlier that they didn’t have to prioritize the mission of finding out what the Russians were doing since they were in the competition. Instead, their job was to make sure that they were available to help if things turned out to be more serious than they initially thought. The members of the Vanguard guild in other countries were free to work hard towards claiming the trophy for their country since that was the real purpose of the competition.
But even that wasn’t on their minds as they tried to get used to the intensity present in the plane at that moment. Most of the tension was coming from Megumi alone as she stared into the blank air in front of her. Her sword was resting on her lap, and she didn’t even reveal a single emotion on her face as she waited for the plane to reach the destination.
Beside Megumi, her brother, Kuro Yoshida, was sitting with his head pressed back into the body of the plane and a cigarette in his mouth. Kuro had a bad feeling about all of this. There was a strange twisting in his gut that told him that something was wrong, but he couldn’t seem to put his finger on it no matter what. Kuro had spoken to his fiancée yesterday, and she told him to drop out of the tournament if he didn’t think that it was something he wanted to do, but Kuro couldn’t do that. The Japanese were very keen on protecting their honor, and Kuro knew that it would be a stain on his name and his family name if he were to leave the tournament just because he didn’t feel like competing. It would be the same as a samurai running away from the battlefield out of fear.
Kuro was going to be getting married soon and they would be starting a new family. It would be social suicide to do something so cowardly just before starting a new family.
So right now, Kuro decided that the only thing he could do was take a smoke at every chance he got and try to put the bad feeling at the back of his mind. Really, it was just a fight against superpowered monsters. Kuro was sure the bad feeling was just his nerves.
“We’re there! Prepare for the drop!”
The soldier that was standing at the exit of the plane shouted out to the superhumans as the cargo hold began to open to reveal that they were already above the island. Megumi wasted no time as she stood up while drawing her sword. She walked over to the exit, and her eyes trailed over the large island and the many battles going on there as she tried to look for Mark. The Japanese had formed a plan of action before coming here. Their plan was actually very similar to what America came up with; they also wanted Megumi to be the person holding the most number of crystals while everyone else would hold a little bit, but Megumi told them earlier that she was not going to be looking out for anyone until she had dealt with Mark.
Genshi didn’t have anything against this since he knew that Mark was the only person that posed any threat to them in this tournament, so dealing with him early on was definitely a good thing. So for now, none of the Japanese contestants were going to bother Megumi, and she wouldn’t have to do anything else until she was done with the fight!
‘There!’
Megumi’s eyes narrowed slightly as she caught sight of a figure sitting on top of a large anima on the other side of the island! Mark’s signature black hair and mask stood out to her immediately and she wasted no time as she ran forward and jumped out of the plane!
…
[So that’s what they were planning?]
Mark hummed in response to Pat’s question as he looked around him with narrowed eyes. Mark was sitting on the body of a large wolf-based anima that had been completely destroyed by him. The wolf anima was actually the leader of the Russians that Mark had been fighting.
At first, Mark started off by just hitting the Russian leader with a weak [Blunt Force Trauma] punch that he hoped would make the man open up about what the Russians had been planning on the island. But instead of telling him what he wanted to know, the Russian had taken out some sort of hidden pill after discovering that he didn’t have a chance to escape, and once he took the pill, Mark watched in amazement as the man literally transformed into an anima right in front of him.
The Russian leader’s transformation had been completely different from what Mark was used to seeing. Whenever Arit transformed, Mark could see just how seamless it was. Arit didn’t seem like she even had to put in any effort for her body to change from her normal one into that of the QUEEN. But the Russian man’s transformation was unseemly and slow. He looked like he was in serious pain as his bone structure and muscles shifted and broke before being reconstructed into a larger version of him that took on the appearance of the wolf.
The man’s power had shot up drastically after the transformation. Before the transformation, the man was only an ELITE Rank II, which would have been around the same as a lower-level Eldritch class anima, but after his transformation, the man jumped straight past middle-level Eldritch and into the high-level Elder Eldritch! In fact, he was almost powerful enough to be considered a low-level Armageddon!
The man attacked Mark, thinking that the amount of power he now had would be enough to at least help him injure Mark once. But he had seriously underestimated just how large the difference between him and Mark was. Mark subdued him so quickly that even the Russian leader was shocked! The Russian leader’s eyes were wide in surprise as Mark pressed his face into the ground with his boot, and it wasn’t until Mark thoroughly beat him up that the man finally relented and told Mark some of the information that he wanted. The man hoped to at least get a chance to run away, but he didn’t expect Mark to kill him immediately after he claimed not to have any more information.
As far as Mark was concerned, he already had enough information for Pat to work with.
Mark used the back of his wrist to clean some of the blood that had splashed on him after he used [Divergent Punch] to finish the Russian off once and for all, and that was how Mark got to this point where he was sitting on top of a corpse and talking to Pat through his comms.
Mark could hear the sound of battle going on in other parts of the island, and Mark knew that most of them were battles between the Americans and Russians
